Book Transformations of Work Challenges for the Institutions and Social Actors

Download or read book Transformations of Work Challenges for the Institutions and Social Actors written by Giuseppe Casale and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2019-02-15 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Market volatility and uncertainty have put welfare and social security policies back centre stage and point up the need for closer links with employment policy. The inability of existing income support systems to respond to the increasing fragmentation of people's working careers, the needs of people in difficulty, and the spread of various forms of poverty calls for well-coordinated and efficient responses. This volume highlights the best practices in the various regions of the world in the contexts of international and EU labour law, industrial relations, and social security. Authoritative reports by leading scholars of labour law and social security – originally presented at the twenty-second World Congress of the International Society for Labour and Social Security Law (ISLSSL) held in Turin in September 2018 – cover the following research themes in depth: – informal workers; – migrant workers; – global trade and labour; – organization, productivity, and well-being at work; – transnational collective agreements; – new forms of social security; and – the role of the State and industrial relations. In its insistence that, despite the radical changes in the world of work and business brought about by globalization and digital technologies, the decisions of institutions and public and private actors can lead to a more coherent system of international economic and social governance, this timely volume shows the way forward. Practitioners, policymakers, and scholars in the relevant fields will bene_ t immeasurably from its expert analyses and recommendations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Riots, rebellions, and revolutions have always captured our attention. But moments of upheaval do not contrast as strongly with "normal" times as many social historians, sociologists, and political scientists have assumed. Offering examples from South Asia, these essays examine subtle forms of the "everyday resistance" and varieties of the everyday use of power that mark the patterns of ordinary life in the region. These essays are part of a larger effort to understand the history of subordination in India. They focus on peasants and urban laborers, courtesans and merchants, sometimes employing unconventional sources and methods. By depicting a rich variety of non-confrontational forms of resistance and contestatory behaviors, the authors challenge our usual assumptions about the overt nature of resistance to dominant powerholders. Taken together, the essays suggest that we must consider a much wider range of socio-cultural practices if we wish to understand how the world of dominated groups is constrained, modified, and conditioned by power relations. Identifying the "everydayness" of resistance in social life thus reveals a social structure formed from a constellation of contradictory and contestatory processes, rather than a seamless, functional whole. At the same time, struggle is portrayed as something that is constantly being conditioned by the structures of social and political power. As the editors note, "neither domination nor resistance is autonomous; the two are entangled together so that it becomes difficult to analyze one without discussing the effects of the other".

Book Recent Advances in Synthesizing and Utilizing Nitrogen containing Heterocycles

Download or read book Recent Advances in Synthesizing and Utilizing Nitrogen containing Heterocycles written by Hyun-Joon Ha and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-05-31 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nitrogen-containing heterocycles, so-called aza-heterocycles, are widely found in natural products, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and functional materials, and thus their synthesis has long been studied intensively. In addition, their preparation and utilization as synthons or intermediates from one to another are also developed to build higher and more complex aza-heterocycles. Some of them are also used as ligands for metal catalysts and organocatalysts. Despite many studies of the synthesis and utilization of nitrogen-containing heterocycles, a more efficient and general preparation is still required to diversify the structural backbones and improve their biological activities. Their usage as ligands and catalysts is also under expansion in various reactions.

Book Alternative Currency Movements as a Challenge to Globalisation

Download or read book Alternative Currency Movements as a Challenge to Globalisation written by Peter North and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past 15 years, local money networks, which are essentially trading networks using a community-created currency, have emerged in countries as far apart as Argentina, Australia and New Zealand, Canada and the US, continental Europe and Japan. They range from Local Exchange Trading Schemes (UK), to Time Dollars (US), Green Dollars (New Zealand, Australia and Canada), Trading Circles (Hungary), Barter Networks (Argentina) and Talents (Germany). Drawing on an ethnographic case study of alternative currency movements in Manchester, UK, this book provides an analysis of the motivations, aims, successes and failures of alternative currency networks. It also raises questions such as the contribution of the alternative currency movement to current debates about alternatives to neoliberalism. While it is theoretically informed, critical and grounded in fieldwork, it is also sympathetic to the political aims of the protagonists and cognisant of the non-economic benefits that arise from their development.

Book Lightroom Transformations

Download or read book Lightroom Transformations written by Martin Evening and published by New Riders. This book was released on 2016-03-22 with total page 652 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photographer and digital imaging expert Martin Evening's guiding philosophy when editing images is to ask, “What is the point? Does what I am doing enhance the picture, or is it just artifice for artifice’s sake?” In Lightroom Transformations, Martin applies this approach to a broad collection of images, showing you how to turn ordinary-looking photos into hero shots—without using fancy montage techniques or wacky effects. By giving each image his own interpretation and explaining the rationale behind the choices he makes, he shows how you can do the same when processing your photos. Focusing primarily on techniques using Lightroom and Camera Raw—but also with Photoshop—Martin demonstrates how to manipulate the tones and composition of images to create photographs that correspond to your personal photographic vision. Filled with before-and-after shots with detailed explanations of how to go from an ordinary image to an extraordinary one, the book illustrates what you can achieve using Lightroom or Photoshop as a creative tool to enhance the natural beauty that lies within your images. Helps you pre-visualize the end result you would like for your photos, and provides easy-to-follow steps for simple edits to polish almost any image Includes tips on shooting technique to improve your images in-camera Demonstrates how to recompose existing shots to illustrate how a photograph could have been shot and composed better Includes short videos that demonstrate some of the techniques discussed in the book

Download or read book Data Representations Transformations and Statistics for Visual Reasoning written by Ross Maciejewski and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analytical reasoning techniques are methods by which users explore their data to obtain insight and knowledge that can directly support situational awareness and decision making. Recently, the analytical reasoning process has been augmented through the use of interactive visual representations and tools which utilize cognitive, design and perceptual principles. These tools are commonly referred to as visual analytics tools, and the underlying methods and principles have roots in a variety of disciplines. This chapter provides an introduction to young researchers as an overview of common visual representations and statistical analysis methods utilized in a variety of visual analytics systems. The application and design of visualization and analytical algorithms are subject to design decisions, parameter choices, and many conflicting requirements. As such, this chapter attempts to provide an initial set of guidelines for the creation of the visual representation, including pitfalls and areas where the graphics can be enhanced through interactive exploration. Basic analytical methods are explored as a means of enhancing the visual analysis process, moving from visual analysis to visual analytics.
