Book Terrorist Use of Cyberspace and Cyber Terrorism New Challenges and Responses

Download or read book Terrorist Use of Cyberspace and Cyber Terrorism New Challenges and Responses written by M.N. Ogun and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2015-10-08 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ICT plays a crucial role in the pursuit of modernization in the countries of Slovenia, Croatia, Albania and Bulgaria, which form the South Eastern European (SEE) region., The quest for Euro-Atlantic integration and the undeniable necessity for direct foreign investment have encouraged the SEE countries to invest in the development of cyber technology, and it has become the dominant area for social, economic and political interaction within the region. This has had both positive and negative consequences. This book presents the proceedings of the NATO Advanced Training Course (ATC), held in Ohrid, former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, in December 2014. The ATC addressed serious concerns about terrorist use of cyber technology in South Eastern Europe, which not only has the potential to destabilize regional efforts to create a platform for increased development by creating a breeding ground for the training of extremists and the launching of cyber attacks, but also represents a direct and indirect threat to the security and stability of other NATO partner countries. The book will be of interest to all those involved in countering the threat posed by terrorist use of the Internet worldwide.

Book Party Responses to Social Movements

Download or read book Party Responses to Social Movements written by Daniela R. Piccio and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2019-03-11 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Across the West, the explosion of social movement activity since the late 1960s has constituted a “participatory revolution” that has posed profound challenges for formal political parties. Through an analysis of new interviews, institutional documents, and a host of other largely unexploited sources, Daniela R. Piccio provides a rich and empirically grounded exploration of the wide-ranging responses to these movements. Focusing on Italy and the Netherlands since the 1970s, Party Responses to Social Movements demonstrates how political parties have incorporated the demands of movements to a surprising extent, even as both have grappled with fundamental and inevitable tensions between their respective roles and aims.

Book Global Challenges and Local Responses

Download or read book Global Challenges and Local Responses written by Jang-Sup Shin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007-08-07 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: East Asia has in many ways been the cockpit of the globalization process. If the phenomenon as it is generally defined is largely recognized as a relatively recent one, the countries that have experienced most change during this period have been in the region. Rapid economic growth leading to the Tigers label was followed by financial crisis and partial recovery. Underlying this has been the remarkable success story of Japan since the Second World War, followed by the current, seemingly inexorable progress of China towards centrality on the world stage. Jang-Sup Shin has amassed an international team of contributors to shed light on how the various Asian countries have responded to the globalization process. These include James Crotty, Lu Ding and Ha-Joon Chang.

Book Handbook of Research on the Impacts Challenges and Policy Responses to Overtourism

Download or read book Handbook of Research on the Impacts Challenges and Policy Responses to Overtourism written by Ribeiro de Almeida, Cláudia and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2020-02-28 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, the increasing number of tourists traveling to specific urban and resort destinations has caused challenges for the effective management of tourism in these areas, with a resulting negative impact on towns, cities, and host communities. Such issues have included placing undue pressure on infrastructure; destruction of the physical, economic, and socio-cultural environment; and affecting the quality of residents’ daily lives by impacting their mobility and, in some cases, the price and rent of resident accommodation, goods, and services. To achieve a certain level of balance between the interests of local residents and visitors, new regulatory measures and legislation in high tourism areas must be discussed. TheHandbook of Research on the Impacts, Challenges, and Policy Responses to Overtourism is a collection of innovative research on best practices and legislation solutions for the management of tourism destinations suffering from overtourism, tourismophobia, or antitourism movement issues. While highlighting topics including overcrowding, social displacement, and tourism management, this book is ideally designed for local government officials, policymakers, lawmakers, researchers, entrepreneurs, industry professionals, travel agencies, hotels, academicians, and students seeking current innovative empirical research on destination-management practices and application techniques.

Book Returning Foreign Fighters Responses Legal Challenges and Ways Forward

Download or read book Returning Foreign Fighters Responses Legal Challenges and Ways Forward written by Francesca Capone and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-24 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, a follow-up publication to the 2016 volume Foreign Fighters under International Law and Beyond, zooms in on the responses that the international community and individual States are implementing in response to (prospective and actual) returning foreign fighters (FFs) and their families, focusing on returnees from Syria and Iraq to European countries. As States and international organisations are still ‘learning by doing’, the role of the academic community is to help steer the process by bridging the divide between international standards and their implementation at the national level and between security concerns and human rights law. Furthermore, the academic community can and should assist in identifying ways forward that are both effective, sustainable and international law-compliant. Those are, ultimately, the goals that the present volume seeks to pursue. The observations, recommendations and warnings included in this book will be useful in future debates on (returning) FFs, both in the academic world and in the world of policy makers and practitioners, as well as to the public at large. Francesca Capone is Associate Professor of International Law at the Istituto DIRPOLIS of the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa, Italy. Christophe Paulussen is Senior Researcher International Law at the T.M.C. Asser Instituut in The Hague, The Netherlands. Rebecca Mignot-Mahdavi is Lecturer in International Law at the Manchester International Law Centre, University of Manchester, School of Law in Manchester, United Kingdom.

Book Local Responses To Global Challenges In Southeast Asia A Transregional Studies Reader

Download or read book Local Responses To Global Challenges In Southeast Asia A Transregional Studies Reader written by Claudia Derichs and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2022-10-11 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Local Responses to Global Challenges in Southeast Asia — A Transregional Studies Reader' is a collection of multidisciplinary essays, predominantly derived from papers presented at EuroSEAS 2019, the leading academic conference on Southeast Asian Studies, hosted by Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. It brings together a variety of scholars from Southeast Asia, Europe and North America, allowing for multiple flows and directionalities of knowledge productions and exchanges, be it between the Global South and North as well as within the Global South. The reader presents empirically-oriented, theoretically grounded analyses of local responses to global challenges such as knowledge-productions; notions and practices of building diverse communities; neo-populisms and contentious politics; resources and sustainability; urbanization; labor, livelihoods and mobilities. Each section starts with an introduction reviewing the state of the art. Authors will take cue from a transregional perspective understood as a distinct and alternative perspective on multi-lingual and transcultural spaces of contact, exchange and transfer. This includes a contextualization of phenomena in terms of diverse (cross) linkages and entanglements, including motilities on different scales, i.e. ranging from the local, regional to national and/or global levels. Container-based notions of place and space are addressed in a critical manner, where space and area are understood as notions beyond established systems of ordering and meta-geographies. A key goal is to allow for a consistent conceptual advancement of New Area Studies, which are critical, decentred, decolonial, diversified, and multi-disciplinary in nature.
