Book Challenges and Opportunities for Domestic Tourism in Tanzania

Download or read book Challenges and Opportunities for Domestic Tourism in Tanzania written by Josiah Ngula and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-02 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of the study was to investigate the challenges and opportunities for domestic tourism development in Tanzania and to determine the degree to which Tanzanians are satisfied with the current state of leisure, recreation and tourism facilities. Descriptive research design was used based on a sample frame of 5,000,000. A sample size of 275 respondents was considered for the study. Unit of analysis comprised of Dar es Salaam residents, Tourism stakeholders. Cluster sampling method was used to collect the data whereby questionnaires were issued to respondents through purpose approach. Data was analyzed and presented through tables of data, diagrams and charts. Tanzanian domestic tourism is rather unexplored and as such a lot of opportunities exist, however a lot of resources are needed to exploit these opportunities. International development agencies and communities who are the core source of development capital in many developing countries like Tanzania tend to be keener in funding tourism projects that are directly beneficial to the international tourists because they do not consider domestic tourism in developing countries as being viable.

Book Sustainable Tourism Development in Tanzania

Download or read book Sustainable Tourism Development in Tanzania written by Wineaster Anderson and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-12-11 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tanzania is rivalled by few countries, if any, in terms of its bountiful natural and cultural tourist attractions. Given that tourism development, if sustainable, is an outstanding policy for distributing welfare, even to less developed parts of a country, this field is of particular importance to Tanzania. In this edited volume, prominent scholars focus on the practises and policies of tourism development, with a particular eye on the case of Tanzania. They explore the demand for sustainability from international tourists, the need for local food and linkages between the tourism and agricultural sectors, and the production of tourism services in a responsible and inclusive way. The book will be a valuable source of knowledge for the tourism industry, as well as policymakers, scholars and students who are concerned about the development of a form of tourism which benefits a country, inclusively and responsibly.

Book Measuring and Mending Monetary Policy Effectiveness Under Capital Account Restrictions

Download or read book Measuring and Mending Monetary Policy Effectiveness Under Capital Account Restrictions written by Mr.Robert Blotevogel and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2013-03-27 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I propose a new approach to identifying exogenous monetary policy shocks in low-income countries with capital account restrictions. In the case of Mauritania, a domestic repatriation requirement is the key institutional characteristic that allows me to establish exogeneity. Unlike in advanced countries, I find no evidence for a statistically significant impact of exogenous monetary policy shocks on bank lending. Using a unique bank-level dataset on monthly balance sheets of six Mauritanian banks over the period 2006–11, I estimate structural vector autoregressions and two-stage least square panel models to demonstrate the ineffectiveness of monetary policy. Finally, I discuss how a reduction in banks’ loan concentration ratios and improvements in the liquidity management framework could make monetary stimuli more effective.

Book Challenges for the Democratisation Process in Tanzania

Download or read book Challenges for the Democratisation Process in Tanzania written by Jonas Ewald and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2013-07-24 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tanzania has been independent in 2011 for 50 years. While most neighbouring states have gone through violent conflicts, Tanzania has managed to implement extensive reforms without armed political conflicts, Hence, Tanzania is an interesting case for Peace and Development research. This dissertation analyses the political development in Tanzania since the introduction of the multiparty system in 1992, with a focus on the challenges for the democratisation process in connection with the 2000 and 2005 elections. The question of to what extent Tanzania had moved towards a consolidation of democracy, is analysed by looking at nine different institutions of importance for democratisation grouped in four spheres: the state, the political, civil and economic society. Focus is on the development of the political society, and the role of the opposition in particular. The analysis is based on secondary and primary material collected between September 2000 to April 2010. The main conclusion is that even if the institutions of liberal democracy have gradually developed, in practice single-party rule has continued, manifested in the 2005 election when the CCM won 92% of seats. Despite impressive economic growth, poverty remains deep and has not been substantially reduced. On a theoretical level this brings the old debate between liberal and substantive democracy back to the fore. Neither the economic nor the political reforms have brought about a transformation of the political and economic system resulting in the poor majority gaining substantially more political influence and improved economic conditions. Hence, it is argued that the interface between the economic, political and administrative reforms has not been sufficiently considered in the liberal democratic tradition. Liberal democracy is necessary for a democratic development, but not sufficient for democracy to be consolidated. For that a substantive democratic development is necessary.

Book Small Firms in Tourism

Download or read book Small Firms in Tourism written by Rhodri Thomas and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a varied collection of recent research relating to small businesses in tourism. In doing so it reflects the eclecticism of interest and method associated with this under-researched and under-theorised area of investigation. Topics range from the potential contribution of small firms to achieving social or economic goals to understanding more about business performance and growth. As is common in tourism research, disciplinary boundaries are routinely transgressed in the interests of gaining greater illumination. Insights from a variety of countries are offered, sometimes as a result of trans-national collaboration initiated specifically for this book.

Book A Troubled Past A Challenging Present and A Promising Future

Download or read book A Troubled Past A Challenging Present and A Promising Future written by Noel B. Salazar and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the many assets the continent possesses, tourism in Africa has mostly operated below its potential, and its often poorly planned development has had irreversible negative consequences for both people and the environment. In order to develop sustainable forms of tourism, respectful of the rich natural and cultural African heritage, industry leaders and policy makers must consider the broader historical and socioeconomic contexts in which tourism is implanting itself. Inspired by an anthropological perspective, this article takes Tanzania as a case study. Tourism in this East African country, as in other African countries, is firmly embedded in encompassing -- and sometimes conflicting -- processes of localization, nationalization, regionalization, and globalization. Only by having a solid understanding of how these different scales are connected, disconnected, and reconnected, and by taking into account the interests of all stakeholders involved, can we begin to build an integrated African hospitality industry that is sustainable as well as economically beneficial. Archival records and recent ethnographic data are combined to show the kinds of challenges and opportunities this poses in the case of Tanzania.

Book Tourism in the Post Pandemic World

Download or read book Tourism in the Post Pandemic World written by Ms.Manuela Goretti and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2021-02-19 with total page 115 pages. Book Meeting the Challenges of Climate Change to Tourism

Download or read book Meeting the Challenges of Climate Change to Tourism written by Louis D'Amore and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-07-24 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has stated, “Climate change is the pre-eminent geopolitical and economic issue of the 21st century. It rewrites the global equation for development, peace and prosperity.” The scientific evidence is clear – climate change is happening and the exposure to weather-related disasters such as heat waves, forest fires, cyclones and flooding has the potential to seriously impact the tourism sector. The travel and tourism industry is both a significant contributor to climate change, being responsible for 5% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and is directly impacted by it. At the same time, the industry is a vital driver of the global economy with an estimated US$6.6 trillion total contribution in 2012, and is particularly significant to developing and emerging economies where the impacts of climate change can be most disruptive. This collection of papers is a timely and indispensable source of insights and models of best practice relating to the mitigation of and adaptation to climate change by various sectors of the industry.
