Book Plastic Deformation of Ceramics

Download or read book Plastic Deformation of Ceramics written by R.C. Bradt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 661 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This proceedings volume, "Plastic Deformation of Ceramics," constitutes the papers of an international symposium held at Snowbird, Utah from August 7-12, 1994. It was attended by nearly 100 scientists and engineers from more than a dozen countries representing academia, national laboratories, and industry. Two previous conferences on this topic were held at The Pennsylvania State University in 1974 and 1983. Therefore, the last major international conference focusing on the deformation of ceramic materials was held more than a decade ago. Since the early 1980s, ceramic materials have progressed through an evolutionary period of development and advancement. They are now under consideration for applications in engineering structures. The contents of the previous conferences indicate that considerable effort was directed towards a basic understanding of deformation processes in covalently bonded or simple oxide ceramics. However, now, more than a decade later, the focus has completely shifted. In particular, the drive for more efficient heat engines has resulted in the development of silicon-based ceramics and composite ceramics. The discovery of high-temperature cupric oxide-based superconductors has created a plethora of interesting perovskite-Iike structured ceramics. Additionally, nanophase ceramics, ceramic thin films, and various forms of toughened ceramics have potential applications and, hence, their deformation has been investigated. Finally, new and exciting areas of research have attracted interest since 1983, including fatigue, nanoindentation techniques, and superplasticity.

Book excerpt: By browsing about 10 000 000 scientific articles of over 200 major journals mainly in a 'cover to cover approach' some 200 000 publications were selected. The extracted data is part of the following fundamental material research fields: crystal structures (S), phase diagrams (also called constitution) (C) and the comprehensive field of intrinsic physical properties (P). This work has been done systematically starting with the literature going back to 1900. The above mentioned research field codes (S, C, P) as well as the chemical systems investigated in each publication were included in the present work. The aim of the Inorganic Substances Bibliography is to provide researchers with a comprehensive compilation of all up to now published scientific publications on inorganic systems in only three handy volumes.

Book Science and Technology of Ceramic Fuel Cells

Download or read book Science and Technology of Ceramic Fuel Cells written by N.Q. Minh and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1995-08-15 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ceramic fuel cells, commonly known as solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), have been under development for a broad range of electric power generation applications. The most attractive feature of the SOFC is its clean and efficient production of electricity from a variety of fuels. The SOFC has the potential to be manufactured and operated cost-effectively. The widening interest in this technology, thus, arises from the continuing need to develop cleaner and more efficient means of converting energy sources into useful forms. This topical book provides a comprehensive treatise on solid oxide fuel cells and succeeds successfully in filling the gap in the market for a reference book in this field. Directed towards scientists, engineers, and technical managers working with SOFCs as well as ceramic devices based on conducting materials, and in related fields, the book will also be invaluable as a textbook for science and engineering courses.

Book Fundamentals of Ceramic Powder Processing and Synthesis

Download or read book Fundamentals of Ceramic Powder Processing and Synthesis written by Terry A. Ring and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1996-04-30 with total page 985 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ceramic powder synthesis and processing are two of the most important technologies in chemical engineering and the ceramics-related area of materials science. This book covers both the processing and the synthesis ofceramic powders in great depth and is indeed the only up-to-date, comprehensive source on the subject available. The application of modern scientific and engineering methods to the field of ceramic powder synthesis has resulted in much greater control of properties. Fundamentals of Ceramic Powder Processing and Synthesis presents examples of these modern methods as they apply to ceramic powders. The book is organized to describe the natural and synthetic raw materials that comprise contemporary ceramics. It covers the three reactant processes used in synthetic ceramic powder synthesis: solid, liquid, andgas.Ceramic powder processing, as a field of materials processing, is undergoing rapid expansion. The present volume is intended as a complete and useful source on this subject of great current interest. It provides comprehensive coverage from a strong chemistry and chemical engineering perspective and is especially applicable to materials scientists, chemical engineers, and applied chemists.Key Features* The most complete and updated reference source on the subject* Comprehensive coverage from a stron chemical engineering and chemistry perspective* Emphasis on both natural and synthetic raw materials in ceramic powder synthesis* Information on reaction kinetics* Superior, more comprehensive coverage than that in existing texts* Sample problems and exercises* Problems at the end of each chapter which supplement the material

Book Ceramic Materials

Download or read book Ceramic Materials written by Philippe Boch and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-01-05 with total page 593 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is primarily an introduction to the vast family of ceramic materials. The first part is devoted to the basics of ceramics and processes: raw materials, powders synthesis, shaping and sintering. It discusses traditional ceramics as well as “technical” ceramics – both oxide and non-oxide – which have multiple developments. The second part focuses on properties and applications, and discusses both structural and functional ceramics, including bioceramics. The fields of abrasion, cutting and tribology illustrate the importance of mechanical properties. It also deals with the questions/answers of a ceramicist regarding electronuclear technology. As chemistry is an essential discipline for ceramicists, the book shows, in particular, what soft chemistry can contribute as a result of sol-gel methods.

Book Ancient and Historical Ceramics

Download or read book Ancient and Historical Ceramics written by Robert Bertram Heimann and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By stressing the congruence between cooking ceramics and tableware, and food and its consumption, this book offers a completely new view on ceramic science. It provides an interdisciplinary approach by linking ceramic science and engineering, archaeology, art history, and lifestyle. The selection of ceramic objects by the authors has been guided by historical significance, technological interest, aesthetic appeal, and mastery of craftsmanship. Readers are being acquainted with the science of ceramics and their technology, and with the artistry of ceramic masterpieces fashioned by ancient master potters. Ceramics treated in this book range from Near Eastern pottery to the Meissen porcelain wonders, from the Greek black-on-red and the Minoan Crete masterpieces to British bone china, and from Roman Terra Sigillata to the celadon stoneware and porcelain produced in the kilns of China, Japan and ancient Siam. Ancient and historical ceramic plates, pots, beakers and cups are juxtaposed with food preparations that likely may have been cooked in and served on these ceramic objects in the distant past. As it also presents ancient recipes, this book will also serve as a unique cook book. This generously illustrated book with hundreds of colour photographs and figures not only addresses professionals and students of archaeology, art history, and archaeometry working at all levels but anybody fascinated by historical ceramics, ceramic materials and production techniques of ancient ceramics.
