Book Central Station Rates in Theory and Practice Classic Reprint

Download or read book Central Station Rates in Theory and Practice Classic Reprint written by Hugo Emil Eisenmenger and published by . This book was released on 2015-09-27 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Central Station Rates in Theory and Practice All the text of this book was published in the latter half of last year in the form of a series of twenty-five consecutive articles in the Electrical Review. The author was pleased to note the widespread interest with which these articles were read and the many requests for putting them into the more permanent and compact form of a book. Hence the book. In revising the text opportunity was taken to rearrange the entire matter in more logical order and also to correct a number of errors. The author's intention has been to produce a book which should be useful to every student of electric rates, to the beginner as well as to the expert. In consequence of this some parts of the text will be found too elementary for the advanced student, whereas other portions will be of interest to those only who wish to penetrate more deeply into the subject of rates. These last named portions frequently are of such a nature that the use of mathematics, sometimes even of the differential calculus, is indispensable for the solution of the problems arising. Wherever the use of mathematics seemed unavoidable the respective portion has been separated from the rest of the text, so that the nonmathematical reader can skip the portion in which he is not interested without losing the context. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Central Station Heating With this renewed attention and interest in central sta tion heating there is bound to be many new faces in the profession, who will not have to pass through all of the unpleasant experiences some of the rest of us have had to face. Central station heating, in its broader sense, is properly classed as a public utility, and will eventually be controlled by the different utility commissions. As the development of these plants increase, the field for them will become larger and, consequently, the number of people interested in them will become greater. The city officers of the various cities will'be asked to pass upon 7heating franchises and should and will want to become familiar with the possibilities and the limitations of central heating plants. Book On the Development and Transmission of Power

Download or read book On the Development and Transmission of Power written by William Cawthorne Unwin and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-13 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from On the Development and Transmission of Power: From Central Stations The present Treatise is based on the Course of Lectures which the Council of the Society of Arts requested the Author to deliver in January and February 1898. In republishing them under less stringent limitations of time and space many gaps have been filled up and some questions have been discussed more fully. The importance of the problem of distributing power to many consumers can hardly be overrated. In dealing with it the question of cost cannot be put on one side. The financial condi tions are governing conditions, and must be considered together with the mechanical Conditions. An attempt has been made in the present treatise to treat the subject as a whole. Hence the causes of waste in generating power have been discussed as well as the losses in distribution. The subject is so wide and touches so many departments of engineering that it is too much to hope that all the questions involved have been examined with sufl'iciently adequate knowledge. Download or read book Central Station Management and Finance Classic Reprint written by Horatio A. Foster and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-11-16 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Central Station Management and Finance Electrical engineer and published in that journal during the present year. It has been the aim throughout to develop a practical plan applicable to the vast majority of central stations in this country, and to lay down rules not only for a good scheme of organization, but for a satisfactory basis of account-keeping. The text embodies a large number of forms, blanks, sheets, registers, tickets labels, analyses, etc such as have been in actual use by the writer, and the regular employment of which has added greatly to the efficiency and earning capacity of central stations with which he has been connected. Interspersed in the text will be found many hints and suggestions that deal with station opera tion and that bring out the close relationship between sound engineering and scientific bookkeeping. In a station that is properly conducted, the system of organization that is established in the dynamo-room and the engine-room will run through to the last figure of its balance sheet. The hands of the superintendent or electrical engineer will be immeasurably strengthened by the knowledge he enjoys of the manner in which his work is telling day by day in higher economy of operation and in the growing margin of profit. While almost any of the blanks may be used individually, the author earnestly recommends a close adherence to the general scheme he has worked out. He has been much gratified by the approval bestowed on the articles not only by parent and local companies, but by leading authorities here and abroad. Book The Central Station Vol 7

Download or read book The Central Station Vol 7 written by and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-07-27 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Central Station, Vol. 7: Devoted Exclusively to the Interests of Electric Lighting and Power Stations; July 1907 It gives me pleasure to welcome the delegates and those with them to our thirtieth convention. This is the second meeting of the Association in this beautiful city. The former was held here early in 1894, slightly more than 13 years ago. Then the active, Class A, membership included 107 companies; now it includes 709 companies; then there were 112 associate, Class D, members; now there are 151; then we had 27 honorary members, now 31. In these three classes there were then 246 members; now there are 884 members. Since that convention two membership classes have been added - the B now including 317 mem bers and the E, including 85 members - a total of 402 members, making at present an aggregate in all classes of members. In addressing that convention President Arm strong stated there were upward of central stations in this country, representing at least $200, of capital. According to our honorary member, Mr. T. C. Martin, in his United States Census Report on the North American Continent, there are now more than central stations; the investment in the United States alone has reached the gross annual revenue 000; the gross return yearly thus approximating the investment of the industry in 1894. Book Electric Central Station Distribution Systems

Download or read book Electric Central Station Distribution Systems written by Harry Barnes Gear and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Electric Central Station Distribution Systems: Their Design and Construction While there were various treatises dealing with special subjects such as low-tension networks, transmission of power, storage batteries, etc., quite fully, there appeared to be no treatise covering the general field of distribution from the standpoint of American practice to which young engineers and students could be referred. The material of the original articles revised and somewhat extended is presented in this volume. Two chapters have been included for convenient reference at the close of the book, in which are compiled such tables as are likely to be needed by the distribution engineer, together with a brief outline of the laws of electric circuits. The treatment is based upon the assumption of a general knowledge of electrical theory such as is possessed by the more advanced students of engineering and by men in prae tical distribution engineering work. Much of the subject matter of the book is, however, of such a nature as to be easily grasped by practical men who have not had a full theoretical training. Book Catechism of Central Station Gas Engineering in the United States Classic Reprint

Download or read book Catechism of Central Station Gas Engineering in the United States Classic Reprint written by Gas Educational Fund and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 710 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Catechism of Central Station Gas Engineering in the United States The matter in this volume has been compiled from the questions and answers sent out to the members of the Practical Class, which has been taught by correspondence since 1895, at first by the Committee on Education of the American Gas Light Association, and since 1899 by the Trustees Gas Educational Fund. These questions and answers have been printed in the Proceedings of the American Gas Light Association and the American Gas Institute, but many requests have been made that they be published in one volume, arranged according to subjects, and this book has been prepared to meet this demand. Among the questions there have been necessarily many covering the same subject from slightly different standpoints. In gathering them together it has been thought best, in some cases, to include more than one question and answer on a subject, even though this involved repetition. Answers or portions of answers which are enclosed in quotation marks, without being credited to any authority, have been taken from the answers sent in by members of the Class. Those which are neither quoted nor credited, have been prepared during the regular course of the class work by the Trustees. It is hoped that, although primarily intended to give the younger workers in the gas business a better knowledge of the principles involved, and the apparatus employed in this business and to aid them to do better work, these questions and answers will also be of service to the older workers in recalling to them the reasons for methods of operation which have come to be accepted as a matter of course. Work. What are the functions of an enterpriser? This question may be answered, perhaps, by quoting Mr. Halford Erickson, a member of the Railroad Commission of Wisconsin. Download or read book Central Station Bookkeeping and Suggested Forms written by Horatio A. Foster and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-08-25 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Central Station Bookkeeping and Suggested Forms: With an Appendix for Street Railways About two years ago the writer published a Short series of articles on records and blanks for use in Electrical Lighting Central Stations in the Electrical Engineer under the name of Central Station Management and Finance. The articles being somewhat new at the time seemed so well thought of that they were published in book form. These articles were very crude; the forms lacked many features necessary or convenient and were not carried nearly far enough to cover the ground. Since those articles were written, having made personal examination of some 160 different stations both technically and financially for the United States Census, the writer thinks the subject can be covered much more fully, and in the light of past experience has attempted to outline and suggest methods and forms for use in such places, which, while not claiming to be perfect, contain the general outline of a classification, scheme of analysis, and forms of books and blank reports which may be of use in developing a system for any station. No claim is made for entire originality, as many of the forms are but slight, modifications of those used by companies already existing. The need of some system of records and accounts can scarcely be overestimated, very few stations keeping any kind of record outside the regular books, and these are often so few and poorly kept as to be of no use. Very few stations are in Shape to know2 central station bookkeeping and suggested forms. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
