Download or read book Resilient Downtowns written by Michael A. Burayidi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-07-18 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Resilient Downtowns provides a guide to communities in reviving and redeveloping their core districts into resilient, thriving neighborhoods. While the National Main Street program’s four-point approach of organization, promotion, economic restructuring, and design has been standard practice for cities seeking to rejuvenate their downtowns for decades there is disquiet among downtown managers and civic leaders about the versatility of the program. Resilient Downtowns provides communities with the "en-RICHED" approach, a four-step process for downtown development, which focuses on residential development, immigration strategies, civic functionality, heritage tourism, and good design practice. Examples from fourteen small cities across the US show how this process can revitalize downtowns in any city.

Download or read book Sustainable Brownfield Development written by Christopher De Sousa and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-07-15 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While industrial and chemical innovations have contributed extensively to human advancement, the darker part of their legacy has been the hundreds of thousands of polluted sites left behind. Governments at all levels have rallied to support the remediation and reuse of these land resources and put many of the nation’s brownfields back into productive use. This book presents two dozen brownfield projects in the United States that have incorporated sustainability, highlighting project features, best management practices, and lessons from the field regarding the underlying policies and practices that enabled these projects to be completed or, in some cases, stalled, altered or abandoned. The case studies represent an array of brownfield projects that aimed to go beyond conventional practice and include a range and variety of end uses (e.g., corner gas stations, industrial, office, residential, brightfields, green space, mixed-use, and transit-oriented developments). The cases investigate site histories, planning and development and examine sustainability characteristics to understand how projects overcame the barriers to brownfield reuse and the implementation of sustainability features and derive a series of lessons learned, including innovative policies, programs, and/or funding mechanisms that helped make these projects work. Sustainable Brownfield Development will be of interest to developers, planners, consultants and community representatives interested in environmental policy, urban planning, community development, ecological restoration, economic development, and parks planning by providing direction and inspiration for those eager to erase the blight of the past and build a more sustainable future.

Download or read book Attorneys Law in Greenville County written by Judith T. Bainbridge and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2015-10-05 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than two hundred years, lawyers and judges, many of them colorful and powerful personalities, have practiced law and maintained order in Greenville County. In the nineteenth century, Judges Richard Gantt and Waddy Thompson began the tradition of Upstate justice. At the time of the Civil War, Benjamin Perry and his colleagues argued fiercely about secession. Recently, local attorneys and judges, both black and white, have struggled with integration and civil rights issues. History is dotted with legal dynasties; individual practioners like Miss Jim Perry and John Bolt Culbertson; and judges, including J. Robert Martin and Frank Eppes, who have played significant roles in Upstate law. Author Judith Bainbridge details the impact and personalities of law and lawyers in Greenville County.
