Download or read book Comparison of Measures of Core Inflation written by Robert Rich and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2008-04 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ability of central banks to differentiate between permanent & transitory price movements is critical for the conduct of monetary policy. The importance of gauging the persistence of price changes has led to the development of measures of underlying, or ¿core,¿ inflation that are designed to remove transitory price changes from aggregate inflation data. This article examines several proposed measures of core inflation -- the ex food & energy series, an ex energy series, a weighted median series, & an exponentially smoothed series -- to identify a ¿best¿ measure. Evaluates the measures¿ performance according to criteria such as ease of design, & accuracy in tracking trend inflation. Charts & tables.
Download or read book Linking Land use Projections and Forest Fragmentation Analysis written by Andrew J. Plantinga and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2007 with total page 744 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An econometric model of private land-use decisions is used to project land use to 2030 for each county in the continental U.S. On a nat. scale, forest area is projected to increase overall between 0.1 & 0.2% per year between now & 2030. However, forest area is projected to decrease in a majority of regions, including the key forestry regions of the South & the Pacific Northwest Westside. Urban area is projected to increase by 68 million acres, & cropland, pasture, rangeland, & Conservation Reserve Program land is projected to decline in area. Regional econometric models are needed to better represent region-specific economic relationships. County-level models of forest fragmentation indices are estimated for the Western U.S. Illus.
Download or read book Accounting for Employee Stock Options written by Judith S. Ruud and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2008-05 with total page 541 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In March 2003, the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) began reconsidering the accounting standard for equity-based compensation. The Board released an exposure draft for a revised standard on Mar. 31, 2004. That revised standard would require firms to recognize the fair value of employee stock options (ESO) as an expense, as was first proposed by FASB more than 10 years ago. This paper assesses whether, under the current accounting standard, firms that grant ESO without recognizing an expense overstate their income. Presents the relevant issues, describes the current standard for ESO, compares the intrinsic value & fair value methods of measure., & weighs the potential economic effects of revising the standard. Download or read book Role of Retail Banking in the U S Banking Industry Risk Return and Industry Structure written by Timothy Clark and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2008-04 with total page 853 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. banking industry is experiencing a renewed interest in retail banking (RB), defined as products & services provided to consumers & small bus. This article documents the ¿return to retail¿ in the U.S. banking industry & offers some insight into why the shift has occurred. The principal attraction of RB seems to be the belief that its revenues are stable & thus can offset volatility in non-retail bus. Interest in RB activities fluctuates with the performance of non-retail banking & financial market activities. Documents the features that the recent ¿return to retail¿ has in common with past cycles, but also identifies factors suggesting that this episode may be more persistent. This RB cycle is being driven almost entirely by the very largest U.S. banks. Charts.
