Book Influence of Burst Position on Airblast Ground Shock and Cratering in Sandstone

Download or read book Influence of Burst Position on Airblast Ground Shock and Cratering in Sandstone written by James K. Ingram and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seven 1000-lb nitromethane spheres were detonated at different height/depths of burst with respect to the surface of a sandstone rock mass near Grand Junction, Colorado. The purpose of the tests was to study the effects of burst position on airblast, ground shock (the primary interest), and cratering phenomena. Ground motions were measured directly beneath the charges to maximum depths of 60 ft and at several locations near the ground surface within horizontal distances of 100 ft. Airblast pressure-time histories were determined along the rock surface at five stations extending to the 10-psi level.

Book A Chemical Monitoring Program of the Explosion Products in Underwater Explosion Tests Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Chemical Monitoring Program of the Explosion Products in Underwater Explosion Tests Classic Reprint written by Ming G. Lai and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-28 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Chemical Monitoring Program of the Explosion Products in Underwater Explosion Tests The U. S. Navy is engaged in an intensive effort to minimize or eliminate pollution of all kinds. This overall effort to combat undesirable environmental effects extends to the manufacture and testing of explosives and of weapons. The aspect of the work of concern here is underwater testing, which is vital to the mission of the Navy. The majority of people with expert knowledge of underwater explosion phenomena believe that the effects of any test on the environment are localized and short-lived and cause no irreversible changes in the general ecology of a natural body of water. Longer range effects are minimal and can be estimated on the basis of existing information, but these estimates are qualitative because most of the previous work has been directed toward the predictions of the early-time, close-in phenomena of military interest. In order to assess the probable environment impact of the underwater explosion tests, it is necessary to assemble a body of factual information regarding the effects of the tests on the marine environment. Based on this information standards and guide lines can be implemented for future underwater explosion test programs.
