The Danish imprint on the culture has led to a surprising friendship between the islanders and Denmark with many conciliatory initiatives and large tourism and scholarly interests from Danes, creating a mood of mutual acceptance and support unusual between a former colony and its owners. The book contains a translation into Danish of all the essays by the author Nina York , a native of Denmark and resident of St. Croix since 1976.
