Book Tombstone Inscriptions of Alexandria Virginia

Download or read book Tombstone Inscriptions of Alexandria Virginia written by Wesley Pippenger and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-17 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the fifth and final volume of the title series by this compiler, and it documents over 12,000 burials, mostly shown on monuments, in Alexandria National (Soldiers) Cemetery, St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery, and the St. Paul's Episcopal Church Cemetery. Included is an addendum to previously published volumes. When combined with earlier volumes in the series, the compiler has now presented information for approximately 45,000 burials within the present city limits of Alexandria, Virginia. Each featured cemetery is presented with details about its historical background, structure, and available records. Entries are presented as a complete inscription as suggested by the Association for Gravestone Studies. The text contains frequent commentary about occupations, residences, and family connections of the deceased. Also, a number of diagrams, maps and photographs contain additional useful data. Partial data for the Alexandria National (Soldiers) Cemetery may be found on the Internet, as was published in 1866 by the U.S. Quartermaster's Department. However, one will find major differences between the Quartermaster's data, the cemetery's database (now maintained in Culpeper, Va.), and actual tomb stone inscriptions. The information is presented here in the order that monuments appear, row by row. Perhaps the most significant element of this volume is that it contains previously unpublished burial data obtained from St. Mary's Catholic Church. Presented is information for nearly 400 unmarked burials and deaths, recorded between 1829 and 1852, from the records of St. Mary's Catholic Church-including the deaths of two Revolutionary War soldiers, Pierre LeCroix and Francis Ignatius Hagan. The author has compiled over 65 publications that provide researchers data about Alexandria, Virginia, the District of Columbia, and other nearby locations. These include information about area cemeteries, marriage and death records, estate records, legislative petitions, property and land records, newspapers, and more.

Thatcher and Stanley W. Smith The Massachusetts Society of Mayflower Descendants, composed of male and female descendants of the Passengers in the May flower on that memorable voyage which terminated at Plymouth, New England, in December, 1620, was organized at Boston on 28 March, 1896, to perpetuate the memory of those Mayflower Pilgrims and to collect and preserve all historical data relating to them. Three years later, in January, 1899, the Society began the_ publication Of an illustrated quarterly magazine, The Mayflower Descendant, devoted to the genealogy, history and biography of the Pilgrims, their ancestors and. Download or read book Hamilton County Ohio written by Jeffrey G. Herbert and published by . This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new index has been compiled from the death and burial records of twenty-four churches in Hamilton County, Ohio. It contains nearly 11,000 deaths recorded in the death and burial registers of individual priests and ministers before 1850. Although index entries vary considerably in detail from church to church and year to year, a particular entry may contain any of the following valuable information: full name and maiden name (where applicable) of the deceased, names of parents, surviving spouse, date of death, age at time of death and date of burial. Entries are alphabetized by surname and are coded with a letter or letters corresponding to a key of churches, allowing researchers to consult the original records for clarification; an "*" preceding the church code denotes an original record containing birth information for the deceased. An alphabetical listing of maiden names and corresponding married names follows the index. Hamilton County, Ohio, Church Death Records, 1811-1849 is intended to supplement the cemetery extractions published in the Hamilton County Burial Records series (also published by Heritage Books, Inc.). Although these church registers do not provide a complete record of Hamilton County deaths and burials for this time period, they can be used to fill in gaps in the official record and suggest new avenues for genealogical research. This volume is particularly valuable for family researchers whose ancestors may have passed through Hamilton County during the western migration but were not residents. The deaths of transient pioneer families are often unaccounted for in county court and cemetery records and were seldom noted in the obituaries of Cincinnati's newspapers; in some cases church registers are the only record of the deaths of these individuals.

Book Sac Fox Shawnee Deaths Cemetery Births Marriage Cards

Download or read book Sac Fox Shawnee Deaths Cemetery Births Marriage Cards written by and published by . This book was released on 2022-03-21 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of the Shawnee is fascinating. Naturally the most famous Shawnee known would be Tecumseh, born circa 1768. But this series contains the descendants of Tecumseh and many famous chiefs and warriors along with their families. It starts with some fascinating materials covering not just the Shawnee but the Sac and Fox Nations. The first volumes concern the estates of these tribal members along with a mixture of other tribes within the Sac and Fox Agencies jurisdiction: Tribes such as the Absentee Shawnee, the Potawatomie, Winnebago, Mexican Kickapoo, Iowa, Otoe, and Pawnee, to name a few. You will find long sought after questions answered through Births, Deaths, Adoptions, and Guardianships. There will also be other records with Wills, Cemetery Records, Vital Statistics, Marriage, and Divorces later within this series. These materials are carefully transcribed from original documents that were rescued from a loft with a leaky roof. They were close to being lost forever from water damage. These logbooks and documents were boxed and stored in an attic where they kept vegetables in a building owned by the Sac and Fox Indian Agency. The majority of this volume, Volume X, consists of the transcriptions of deaths, births, marriage cards, cemeteries and other vital records, and which contain various documents and documentation memorializing the specific event. There are approximately 1,932 individuals documented. Sources will be found providing locations, values, fees, divisions of property, and, often, expenses associated with the event (death, marriage, etc.). Anyone examining these documents will find numerous family names, ages, relationship, sometimes death dates, along with any number of circumstances surrounding the event. Regarding Marriages, the marriages are undated, but do list the entire family, the year of the event, and the blood quantum of each family member. In addition to the Sac & Fox and Shawnee Tribes, other tribes mentioned in this Volume are the Absentee Shawnee, Creek, Iowa, Kickapoo, Ottawa, Otoe, Pottawatomie, Seminole, and Winnebago. These volumes were transcribed from Oklahoma Historical Society film rolls SFSA-50 to 53.
