Book Hamilton County Ohio Burial Records Calvary Cemetery

Download or read book Hamilton County Ohio Burial Records Calvary Cemetery written by Mary H. Remler and published by Hamilton County Chapter Ohio Genealogical Society. This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Calvary Cemetery is located in the Cincinnati, Ohio, suburb of Evanston and covers thirteen acres. The first burial was recorded in November 1865; over 17,000 interments have since been made and the grounds remain active. This new work reprints Calvary Cemetery's burial records in their entirety, cross-referenced with readings from headstones and markers to ensure accuracy. Records are arranged alphabetically by surname and contain (wherever available): full name of the deceased, date of birth, date of death, age at time of death and date of interment, with cemetery section, lot and row numbers. Generally, these records contain little supplemental information but do occasionally note familial relations (such as father, mother, sister, or brother), military service and name changes. In addition to thousands of Cincinnati area residents, Calvary Cemetery is also the resting place of Sisters from three religious convents: the Sisters of St. Ursula Convent and Academy in Section E, the Little Sisters of the Poor in Sections S and I, and the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, also in Section I. These women are listed together with fellow members of their order, identified by both their birth and religious names. Their surnames, as well as those of allied family members, are included in the "Additional Family Related Surname Index" which closes this volume. A map is included showing the locations of all burial grounds in Hamilton County, followed by plats for each section of Calvary Cemetery.

Book Burial Records 1717 1962 of the Eastern Cemetery Portland Maine

Download or read book Burial Records 1717 1962 of the Eastern Cemetery Portland Maine written by William B. Jordan and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eastern Cemetery is Portland's oldest burial ground. It is believed that burials were made here in the 1600s, but no records or markers survive from that period. Record keeping was equally lax in the 1700s. To bring order into the use of the cemetery, the Selectmen were authorized in 1795 to lay out the "Burial Ground into regular plats & divisions," but it was not until 1890 that a thorough and systematic survey of this large cemetery was finally done. At that time William Augustus Goodwin produced a listing of 4,136 gravestones, monuments, tombs, and grave sites, along with an accurate map showing the location of every marker. In compiling the present volume, Professor Jordan visited and checked each grave on the Goodwin map, and made additions and corrections as required. He also compared the stones with the extant burial records, and has included entries for allthose persons known to have been buried here, but for whom there are no markers. In addition, several appendices list individuals whose bodies were consigned to the Portland Medical School or the Maine Medical School for teaching purposes, individuals buried in the Alms House Yard, victims of the shipwreck of the Bohemia and the 1866 Portland fire, and individuals placed in the City Tomb whose subsequent burial place was not recorded in the city burial records. In this large collection of about 7,000 records, each entry gives the person's full name, death date, and burial location. Other data, such as age, relationships, military service, race, and religion are given where known. The data are alphabetically arranged by the name of the deceased, and there is a cross-index to other persons named. The introduction to the volume gives a detailed history of the cemetery.

Book Mount Pleasant Cemetery Burial Index

Download or read book Mount Pleasant Cemetery Burial Index written by Daniel Durbin and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-11-05 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mount Pleasant Cemetery is located in the northwest corner of Edmonson County, Kentucky near the borders of Grayson and Butler counties. The cemetery is adjacent to Mt. Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The surrounding area is known as Big Reedy. Big Reedy is approximately 25 miles (40 km) due north of Bowling Green, or 13 miles south of Caneyville. Mt. Pleasant C. P. Church was established in 1887 and the first community schoolhouse was built in 1896. The schoolhouse still stands, unused since 1940. The cemetery was in use much earlier, during the settlement years. The oldest legible death date in the cemetery is 1848. Some of the 70+ field rocks serving as headstones no doubt pre-date this "earliest date" to the late 1700's and very early 1800's. There are 650 marked graves in Mt. Pleasant, 578 of which have legible tombstones. No doubt many original markers have been lost due to the ravages of time. There are at least 75 possible gravesites in the original old section (A) of the cemetery that are not marked. The wrought-iron fence and entry portal to Mount Pleasant Cemetery are gone. However the serenity and beauty of the hillside cemetery have not lessened. This index is a composite of a 1979 pen & paper survey and a 2014 photo survey. The 2014 survey assigned a Section, Row, and Plot number to each burial. This was done in an effort to assist in finding the individual grave of an ancestor.
