This book was released on 2017-07-25 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis studies the effects of superplasticizers, polyacrylate latexes and asphalt emulsions, which differ in molecular/particle size from nanometers to microns, on the rheological properties of fresh cement pastes (FCPs), as well as the action mechanisms involved. It systematically investigates the rheological properties and microstructure of cement-based materials, and elucidates the adsorption behaviors of polycarboxylate polymers with different functional groups and their effects on cement hydration. Moreover, it reveals how the working mechanism of naphthalene sulfonate formaldehyde (NSF) differs from that of polycarboxylate ether-based (PCE) superplasticizers. Lastly, it develops a conceptual microstructure model and two rheological equations. These findings lend theoretical support to the development of new chemical admixtures and new, higher-performance, cement-based composites.

Download or read book Chemistry and Microstructure of Solidified Waste Forms written by Roger D. Spence and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1992-12-15 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemistry and Microstructure of Solidified Waste Forms presents a comprehensive summary of mechanisms of immobilization in cementitious waste forms and the effect of waste species on cement chemistry and morphology. The book introduces the well-known chemistry and microstructure of cement pastes, in addition to common mechanisms of immobilization of waste species in cementitious waste forms. The fundamental chemical and microstructural fate of waste species is reviewed, and a technique for studying cementitious waste forms using scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) is described with examples of its application. Chemistry and Microstructure of Solidified Waste Forms also presents evidence to prove that chromium in waste becomes part of the cement matrix, and the potentially harmful effect of this process is discussed. Data for interpretations are included so that other researchers can analyze the data and draw their own conclusions. The book also discusses how solubility and solubility theory can be combined with leach theory and diffusion theory to predict the leaching performance of cementitious waste forms. Chemistry and Microstructure of Solidified Waste Forms will prove invaluable to hazardous waste professionals, engineers, environmental engineers, chemical engineers, waste disposal managers, waste form developers and researchers, and regulators.
Download or read book Multifunctional Cement Based Sensors for Intelligent Infrastructure written by Wengui Li and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-09-11 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multifunctional Cement-Based Sensors for Intelligent Infrastructure: Design, Fabrication and Application covers the development and use of cement-based sensors for monitoring structural health, durability, and environmental conditions in concrete infrastructure. Monitoring the performance and condition of bridges, buildings, and roads improves safety and longevity while preventing failures and reducing maintenance costs. Cement-based sensors offer low cost, ease of installation, and compatibility with existing building materials, and can also provide real-time monitoring data to detect and diagnose potential issues before they become major problems. This book sets out the principles of the sensing mechanisms, fabrication techniques, and performance evaluation along with several case studies. It also provides a glimpse into a future where concrete structures will not only stand as pillars of strength but also become an indispensable part of smart cities as the core of automation. The book suits researchers, engineers, and practitioners involved in design, construction, and maintenance of concrete buildings and infrastructure. Wengui Li is a Scientia Associate Professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the group leader of Intelligent Concrete and Infrastructure Materials in the Centre for Infrastructure Engineering and Safety (CIES) at The University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney), Australia.
