Book Cell Cycle and Cell Differentiation

Download or read book Cell Cycle and Cell Differentiation written by J. Reinert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is instructive to compare the response of biologists to the two themes that comprise the title of this volume. The concept of the cell cycle-in contra distinction to cell division-is a relatively recent one. Nevertheless biologists of all persuasions appreciate and readily agree on the central problems in this area. Issues ranging from mechanisms that initiate and integrate the synthesis of chro mosomal proteins and DNA during S-phase of mitosis to the manner in which assembly of microtubules and their interactions lead to the segregation of metaphase chromosomes are readily followed by botanists and zoologists, as well as by cell and molecular biologists. These problems are crisp and well-defined. The current state of "cell differentiation" stands in sharp contrast. This, one of the oldest problems in experimental biology, almost defies definition today. The difficulties arise not only from a lack of pertinent information on the regulatory mechanisms, but also from conflicting basic concepts in this field. One of the ways in which this situation might be improved would be to find a broader experimental basis, including a better understanding of the relationship between the cell cycle and cell differentiation.

Book Developmental Aspects of the Cell Cycle

Download or read book Developmental Aspects of the Cell Cycle written by Ivan Cameron and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developmental Aspects of the Cell Cycle discusses the molecular, organelle, cellular, and organismal levels of cell cycle, cell proliferation, and cell differentiation. It addresses the possible antagonism between the ability of cells to proliferate and to differentiate. After brief historical, theoretical, and methodological background information for each cell system, this book concentrates on the mechanisms involved in the regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation. The book presents systems in which mass cultures of cells can be induced to undergo a synchronous transition from one cell state to another, enabling the amplification of cellular and biochemical events to be analyzed with the available morphological and biochemical techniques. Some chapters explain the possibility of cell state production by a microenvironment that occurs at the organismal level, in which a series of mitotic and growth steps causes cells proliferation. The concluding chapters discuss cell proliferation and differentiation in specific cell system, such as embryonic chick and male germ cell. This book will appeal to investigators in many disciplines, teachers, and life sciences students, particularly, to molecular, cellular, and developmental biologists.

Book Asymmetric Cell Division in Development Differentiation and Cancer

Download or read book Asymmetric Cell Division in Development Differentiation and Cancer written by Jean-Pierre Tassan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-04-12 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides readers with an overview of the frequent occurrence of asymmetric cell division. Employing a broad range of examples, it highlights how this mode of cell division constitutes the basis of multicellular organism development and how its misregulation can lead to cancer. To underline such developmental correlations, readers will for example gain insights into stem cell fate and tumor growth. In turn, subsequent chapters include descriptions of asymmetric cell division from unicellular organisms to humans in both physiological and pathological conditions. The book also illustrates the importance of this process for evolution and our need to understand the background mechanisms, offering a valuable guide not only for students in the field of developmental biology but also for experienced researchers from neighboring fields.

Book Cell Cycle in Development

  • Author : Jacek Z. Kubiak
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2011-06-01
  • ISBN : 3642190650
  • Pages : 588 pages

Download or read book Cell Cycle in Development written by Jacek Z. Kubiak and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-01 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the intersection between cell cycle regulation and embryo development. Specific modifications of the canonical cell cycle occur throughout the whole period of development and are adapted to fulfil functions coded by the developmental program. Deciphering these adaptations is essential to comprehending how living organisms develop. The aim of this book is to review the best-known modifications and adaptations of the cell cycle during development. The first chapters cover the general problems of how the cell cycle evolves, while consecutive chapters guide readers through the plethora of such phenomena. The book closes with a description of specific changes in the cell cycle of neurons in the senescent human brain. Taken together, the chapters present a panorama of species - from worms to humans - and of developmental stages - from unfertilized oocyte to aged adult.

Book Molecular Cell Biology of the Growth and Differentiation of Plant Cells

Download or read book Molecular Cell Biology of the Growth and Differentiation of Plant Cells written by Ray J. Rose and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Molecular Cell Biology of the Growth and Differentiation of Plant Cells encompasses cell division, cell enlargement and differentiation; which is the cellular basis of plant growth and development. Understanding these developmental processes is fundamental for improving plant growth and the production of special plant products, as well as contributing to biological understanding. The dynamics of cells and cellular organelles are considered in the context of growth and differentiation, made possible particularly by advances in molecular genetics and the visualization of organelles using molecular probes. There is now a much clearer understanding of these basic plant processes of cell division, cell enlargement and differentiation. Each chapter provides a current and conceptual view in the context of the cell cycle (6 chapters), cell enlargement (5 chapters) or cell differentiation (9 chapters). The book provides state of the art knowledge (and open questions) set out in a framework that provides a long term reference point. The book is targeted at plant cell biologists, molecular biologists, plant physiologists and biochemists, developmental biologists and those interested in plant growth and development. The book is suitable for those already in the field, plant scientists entering the field and graduate students.

Download or read book Asymmetric Cell Division written by Alvaro Macieira-Coelho and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-04-21 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cell biologists have recently come to understand that asymmetry of division is an important regulatory phenomenon in the fate of a cell. In adult organisms asymmetric divisions regulate the stem cell reservoir and are a source of the drift that contributes to aging. This book describes the phenomenon in different organisms and addresses its implications for the development of the organism, cell differentiation, human aging and the biology of cancers.
