Book Celestial Background Radiation

Download or read book Celestial Background Radiation written by Russell G. Walker and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A short review is given of the literature pertinent to the bolometric correction. A recommended scale of bolometric corrections is presented based upon recent model atmospheres for stars of early spectral type, and upon stellar energy distributions synthesized from photoelectric observations of stars later than FO V. The reduction of various photoelectrically determined magnitude and color systems to a common system and the further reduction of these measurements to absolute energy units is discussed in some detail. Download or read book Celestial Messengers written by Mario Bertolotti and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-14 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book describes from a historical point of view how cosmic rays were discovered. The book describes the research in cosmic rays. The main focus is on how the knowledge was gained, describing the main experiments and the conclusions drawn. Biographical sketches of main researchers are provided. Cosmic rays have an official date of discovery which is linked to the famous balloon flights of the Austrian physicist Hess in 1912. The year 2012 can therefore be considered the centenary of the discovery.

Book Celestial Infrared Calibration Sources in the 8 14 Micrometer Region

Download or read book Celestial Infrared Calibration Sources in the 8 14 Micrometer Region written by Thomas E. Cecil and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Venus and Jupiter are often used as long wavelength infrared (LWIR) calibration sources. The authors have reviewed the literature on radiometric and spectrometric measurements of these two planets and adopted reasonable brightness temperatures and spectral dependencies for their thermal radiation. Using these data, irradiance coefficients that can be used to determine the irradiance reaching the earth from these planets at any time were calculated. A crucial factor in the utility of these planets as calibration sources is the constancy with which they radiate in the infrared. The authors conclude that Jupiter may be a variable source. Venus, on the other hand, appears to be generally quite constant, but brief temporal variations may take place.

Book Very High Energy Cosmic Gamma Radiation

Download or read book Very High Energy Cosmic Gamma Radiation written by Felix A. Aharonian and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gamma ray astronomy, the branch of high energy astrophysics that studies the sky in energetic ?-ray photons, is destined to play a crucial role in the exploration of nonthermal phenomena in the Universe in their most extreme and violent forms. The great potential of this discipline offers impressive coverage of many OC hot topicsOCO of modern astrophysics and cosmology, such as the origin of galactic and extragalactic cosmic rays, particle acceleration and radiation processes under extreme astrophysical conditions, and the search for dark matter."
