Download or read book The Pleasures of God written by John Piper and published by Multnomah. This book was released on 2012-01-17 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author of Desiring God reveals the biblical evidence to help us see and savor what the pleasures of God show us about Him. Includes a study guide for individual and small-group use. Isn’t it true—we really don’t know someone until we understand what makes that person happy? And so it is with God! What does bring delight to the happiest Being in the universe? John Piper writes, that it’s only when we know what makes God glad that we’ll know the greatness of His glory. Therefore, we must comprehend “the pleasures of God.” Unlike so much of what is written today, this is not a book about us. It is about the One we were made for—God Himself. In this theological masterpiece—chosen by World Magazine as one of the 20th Century’s top 100 books, John Piper reveals the biblical evidence to help us see and savor what the pleasures of God show us about Him. Then we will be able to drink deeply—and satisfyingly—from the only well that offers living water. What followers of Jesus need now, more than anything else, is to know and love—behold and embrace—the great, glorious, sovereign, happy God of the Bible. “This is a unique and precious book that everybody should read more than once.” —J.I. PACKER, Regent College, Vancouver, British Columbia

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "At six years old Charles Mulli woke up one morning to find he had been completely abandoned by both parents. All alone he fell into a life of abject poverty, forcing Mulli to wander from hut to hut begging for food for his very survival, unable even to attend school. ..." As a teenager Mulli started a small taxi company which grew to be very successful. Eventually he expanded his business ventures to include real estate, insurance, and oil and gas distribution, becoming a highly successful businessman. But despite all his success, the growing struggle in his heart over the plight of thousands of Kenyan street children remained strong until one day he surrendered to the call of God on his life to sell everything he owned and begin rescuing street children from the slums of Kenya. His story is told here in My Journey of Faith from his own perspective, describing his incredible life of faith that is filled with love, miracles, and powerful answers to prayer, and demonstrates persuasively how a close walk with God is accessible to all of us even today. The reader will experience the amazing true stories of tragedy-turned-triumph where hopeless cases encounter the work of Charles Mulli’s and discover a new life they could not have imagined.
Download or read book Understanding the Iglesia Ni Cristo written by Anne C. Harper and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-08-23 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: • Does the Iglesia ni Cristo really teach that their building will go up in the rapture? • Do they use coercive methods to make sure their members give at least a tithe of their income to the church? • Have confrontational methods of evangelism been effective in reaching them? • Is there a better way? The answers to these and other questions may surprise you. In this groundbreaking and meticulously researched new book, evangelical scholar Dr. Anne Harper, who, with her husband, George, is a Manila based missionary with Action International Ministries. describes the history, teachings, growth and development of the Iglesia ni Cristo since its founding in 1914 and explains why this group has endured for the last 100 years and why it will not likely fade away. Unlike other evangelical publications, Dr. Harper treats the Iglesia ni Cristo with respect and kindness, while being careful not to agree with or endorse their teachings. Thoroughly documented, yet highly readable, this book will go a long way to removing the false stereotypes that many born again Christians have of this group and challenges to rethink our attitudes towards them and respond in a biblical manner. Download or read book Celebration written by Erskine Theological Seminary and published by Ambassador International. This book was released on 2018-05-01 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Short History of Erskine Theological Seminary Erskine Seminary was founded in 1837 by the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Synod of the South. Presbyterians have historically believed that educated ministers are essential for healthy churches and the Seminary was founded to meet this critical need. Two years later, the faculty was enlarged to establish the first four-year denominational college in South Carolina, with the Seminary operating as an arm of the College. The two institutions were formally separated in 1859, but were reunited in 1926 under the name Erskine College, with the Seminary serving as a professional school alongside the undergraduate Christian liberal arts institution. The Seminary’s name honors the heritage of the brothers Ralph and Ebenezer Erskine, who served as pastors and leaders in the Presbyterian church in Scotland in the early 1700s. The Erskines are particularly remembered for two courageous stands. When some claimed that people must repent of their sins (and clean up their lives) before they could come to Christ, the Erskines insisted that God in his grace invites people to come to Christ as they are, as sinners, to receive forgiveness (“the Marrow controversy”). When wealthy landowners claimed the right to name pastors of churches built on their land (“patronage”), the Erskines insisted that Christ, the Lord of the Church, had given that right to the people in the church. Ebenezer Erskine (with others) was rebuked by the Church of Scotland and later suspended from the ministry. He with three others “seceded” to form an “Associate Presbytery” (one of the predecessors of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church) and continued to proclaim God’s free grace. Erskine has sought to share its heritage and resources with the wider church. The Seminary first began offering courses outside of Due West in 1980. Following the provision of the expanded facilities of Bowie Divinity Hall in 1985, the Board of Trustees approved the expansion of the Seminary’s mission to serve the larger evangelical community and the Seminary adopted a block schedule (each class meets only one day each week for three hours) to accommodate commuting students. Since that time, students from many other churches – Presbyterian, Baptist, AME, Methodist, Pentecostal, and non-denominational – have joined students from the ARP Church to receive training for ministry. In the 1990s, the Seminary launched its distance education program and in 2010 was approved to offer complete degree programs at its Columbia campus. Without wavering from its Evangelical and Reformed commitments, the Seminary continues to seek additional ways to serve the whole Church of Jesus Christ.

Download or read book In His Image written by Matthew Lee Smith and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2007-02-22 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In His Image is the next step for those who have read The Purpose Driven Life. Following the Life Purpose of Mission, this book explores God's great love for humanity from every book of the Bible. From the creation of Genesis to the culmination in Revelation, God’s love shines through every page. Never is this ever clearer than in the times of Israel’s great betrayal of their God. His passionate pursuit of His children can be heard dripping from his voice as He calls them (and us by proxy) back to His shelter and protection. This book was written ... • To convince the reader of God’s intense and immense love for them; • To encourage the reader to reach out to the God who is passionately in love with them; • To strengthen the reader’s faith in God’s compassion; and • To motivate the reader to share the love of God with every person they meet. It is very clear God loves people of all races and ethnicities. Therefore, whenever appropriate to the passage of the day, emphasis is made on the issue of racial reconciliation around God’s love. His love becomes the motivation for evangelism and for community. In each daily devotional ... • There is a Biblical Scripture they are encouraged to read; • There is a passage of Scripture to read in the devotional itself; • There is the devotional to read which focuses the reader on a single thought, broken into two, three or four practical ideas they can utilize that day in their lives; and • There is a thought to take with the reader each day which summarizes the theme concerning God’s great love for them.
