Book Competitiveness of CEE Economies and Businesses

Download or read book Competitiveness of CEE Economies and Businesses written by Piotr Trąpczyński and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-28 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents peer-reviewed, state-of-the-art conceptual and empirical papers devoted to changes in the international competitive position of the Central and Eastern European (CEE) region, its countries and businesses. While the unprecedented scale of transformation in the CEE region has provided a distinct research setting for international business and economics scholars for more than two decades, there have also been recent discussions about the extent to which the region continues to have a unique business environment. The region's economies have reached different levels of market development and modern business practice adoption, with some of them now frequently classified as advanced economies. Consequently, the same level of heterogeneity among CEE countries can also be observed at the sector and business level. The contributions in this book highlight possible sources of competitive advantage for CEE countries and firms, in light of recent intensive debates about the danger of the middle-income trap and the potential solutions to it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a young girl, Cee-Cee decided she would never be broke again. She watched her mother sell herself for the smallest ounce of crack, which caused them to get put out of their section-eight apartment. Cee-Cee was determined to be rich and take care of her siblings and grandma Rose. Her hustling ways caught the eye of the city’s most notorious villain, Julius Santana, aka Juelz. At first sight, he respected her strong will to make money. She was too young, but Juelz was impressed with her hustle and waited for her. When she turned eighteen, he changed her life for the better, or so it seems. He makes her the first lady of his tenacious crew, known to the streets of Atlanta as the Atlanta Black Mafia. Cee-Cee was all about making money, and if Juelz was providing, she was taking it, but everything comes with a price. Juelz has a nasty coke habit that resurfaces and changes the way he handles her. His violent rages are accompanied by lavish gifts and money. Cee-Cee uses that to stack up for her ultimate escape from him. Before she has enough money saved to leave, the mafia family comes under attack, and as first lady, Cee-Cee is the first target. The Feds are wanting to get to Juelz and uses Cee-Cee to get to him. When the snitches are revealed, family and loyalty are on the line. Amid the changes within the ABM, Cee-Cee begins to see Juelz in a whole new light. Jealousy, envy, and snitching shakes the ABM family. Cee-Cee puts her best foot forward to save the mafia family, but will she fall short when it comes to her own family?

Book The Legal and Institutional Framing of Collective Bargaining in CEE Countries

Download or read book The Legal and Institutional Framing of Collective Bargaining in CEE Countries written by Ivana Palinkaš and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2018-04-09 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The formerly communist countries of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) have witnessed a profound transformation of their labour laws since the 1990s and, especially, after their accession to the European Union. Today, in comparison to the other Member States, they continue to have weak trade unions and employers’ associations and an underdeveloped system of collective bargaining. Moreover, the recent economic and financial crisis highlighted the need to invest further efforts in bringing the CEE industrial relations closer to the ‘old’ Member States, in order to facilitate a more meaningful enforcement of the EU-wide economic and social policies. This is the first book to scrutinise this important matter in depth. Focusing on four current CEE labour law regimes – in Slovenia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Poland – that also have different collective bargaining trends and can be said to exemplify some of the main legal and institutional frameworks for collective bargaining that the CEE countries have developed, the author addresses the following major issues: – the transition from a centralised to an open market economy and the degree of continuing residual characteristics; – the extent to which labour laws since the 1990s have enabled an adequate institutionalisation of industrial relations to allow free and voluntary collective bargaining at the national, sectoral, and company levels; and – the effectiveness of the standard-setting role of trade unions and employers’ associations insofar as they have persisted or come into play. The analysis always keeps in focus the development of labour laws in relation to a number of such interlinked elements as market transformation, type of privatisation of state ownership, and attitudes towards welfare. It draws on both the relevant literature and on twenty-five interviews with legal and policy experts from social partners’ organisations and staff within the ministries for social affairs in the selected countries. In support of the study’s general finding that the laws in CEE countries could provide more stimulus for sectoral and cross-sectoral collective bargaining, the author offers deeply informed recommendations and insights into legal shortcomings and pinpoints how the existing legal frameworks can be enhanced. Any professional or academic in the field of industrial relations, and particularly those concerned with complex transitions such as those occurring in the CEE countries and elsewhere in the world, will find this book of great value.
