Book Arizona Superstition Wilderness Topo Atlas

Download or read book Arizona Superstition Wilderness Topo Atlas written by Joe Berardi and published by . This book was released on 2015-02-02 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arizona Superstition Wilderness Topo AtlasThe Superstition Wilderness has been a sentimental favorite place for Joe Berardi ever since he drove cross country from New York to Arizona in 1975. Near Apache Junction, Arizona, he noticed the towering mountains protruding out of the Sonoran desert on his way to his new college home in Tempe. For Spring break 1976, he organized and led a week long backpacking excursion deep into the wilderness. He prepared for that trip in 1976 by going to the campus library map collection and copying the USGS maps for the Superstitions using a B&W 8.5x11 inch copier. He then taped over 20 sheets together to produce his hiking map and along with his compass guided his hiking group through the wilderness. In those days there were no housing developments and only one paved road within sight of this remote area. Ever since then he has been drawn back to this desert wonderland numerous times exploring the many trailheads that provide entry into this preserved desert. There are no roads going into the wilderness. Photographing the Flat Irons at sunset is a favorite for many photographers. There are legends of hidden gold mines that have brought people from around the world looking for the treasures. This book is a compilation of topographical maps that are required by any hiker attempting to hike the remote and rugged Superstition Wilderness. The custom detailed maps make hiking this wilderness much easier and the maps have key GPS coordinates for finding the trailheads and major trail junctions. This book of maps eliminates the anxiety of trial and error hiking for hiking some of the most pristine desert in the United States. This atlas eliminates the need to buy multiple 7.5x7.5 quad maps for a single hike and pays for itself by not having to buy multiple high resolution maps. The author has wrestled with large maps on a windy day and has produced an atlas that is a pleasure to use out on the trail. The western boundary of this wilderness has be encroached on by civilization with the Lost Dutchman State Park providing easy access and several housing communities including Gold Canyon hiding some of the trailheads but regardless once you get a few miles past this encroachment or enter the wilderness elsewhere you will be immersed into a truly Sonoran desert experience. Prepare for your journey today and purchase the Arizona Superstition Wilderness Topo Atlas.
