Book Proctor and Hughes Chemical Hazards of the Workplace

Download or read book Proctor and Hughes Chemical Hazards of the Workplace written by Gloria J. Hathaway and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-12-03 with total page 808 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The indispensable resource for health professionals on potentially unsafe chemicals--now fully updated Proctor and Hughes' Chemical Hazards of the Workplace, Fifth Edition provides a comprehensive reference text for health professionals who need toxicology data on chemicals that may be encountered in various work settings. Building on the success of the Fourth Edition-already a standard text-this new edition updates and revises the more than 600 entries of that text, and also adds monographs on new compounds. Introductory chapters cover toxicological concepts, clinical manifestations of exposure, the diagnosis of occupational disease, and industrial hygiene aspects of chemical exposures. The rest of the text consists of more than 625 alphabetically arranged entries on individual compounds, each of which includes: * Chemical formula * CAS number * 2003 ACGIH (American Conference of Government Industrial Hygienists) threshold limit value * Synonyms * Physical properties * Sources of exposure * Routes of exposure * Toxicological data The toxicological data includes both acute and chronic effects, especially as related to any known exposure levels. The data emphasizes human studies and cases over animal data whenever sufficient information is available, and addresses any known carcinogenic, mutagenic, fetotoxic, or other reproductive effects. Clinical information is presented in a succinct narrative form to aid in understanding. Easy to use, in-depth, and comprehensive, Proctor and Hughes' Chemical Hazards of the Workplace, Fifth Edition offers occupational health physicians, nurses, industrial hygienists, and other safety professionals an invaluable and up-to-date resource.

Book Regulating Chemical Risks

    Book Details:
  • Author : Johan Eriksson
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2010-08-18
  • ISBN : 9048194288
  • Pages : 347 pages

Download or read book Regulating Chemical Risks written by Johan Eriksson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-08-18 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents research on current trends in chemical regulations – a fa- growing, complex, and increasingly internationalized field. The book grew out from a multidisciplinary research project entitled ‘Regulating Chemical Risks in the Baltic Sea Area: Science, Politics, and the Media’, led by Michael Gilek at Södertörn University, Sweden. This research project involved scholars and experts from natural as well as social sciences, based at Södertörn University, Swedish Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Karolinska Institutet, and Umeå University. The project group organized a multidisciplinary research conference on chemical risk regulations, held in Stockholm, August 15–17, 2007. Most of the contributions published in this book were, in draft form, first presented at this conference. The conference, like the ensuing edited volume, expanded the geographical focus beyond the Baltic Sea area to include wider European, and to some extent also global trends. Many thanks to all project colleagues and conference participants! We are very grateful for the generous financial support received from The Foundation for Baltic and East European Studies (Östersjöstiftelsen), The Swedish Research Council Formas, and from Södertörn University. Without this support the present book would not have been possible. Special thanks to all of our fellow contributors, all of whom have submitted to- cal papers based on high-quality research. Many thanks also to Tobias Evers, who assisted us with technical editing. Finally, we are grateful for the professionalism shown by our editors at Springer.
