Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Disorder is one of the predominant topics in science today. The present text is devoted to the mathematical studyofsome particular cases ofdisordered systems. It deals with waves in disordered media. To understand the significance of the influence of disorder, let us start by describing the propagation of waves in a sufficiently ordered or regular environment. That they do in fact propagate is a basic experience that is verified by our senses; we hear sound (acoustic waves) see (electromagnetic waves) and use the fact that electromagnetic waves travel long distances in many aspects ofour daily lives. The discovery that disorder can suppress the transport properties of a medium is oneof the fundamental findings of physics. In its most prominent practical application, the semiconductor, it has revolutionized the technical progress in the past century. A lot of what we see in the world today depends on that relatively young device. The basic phenomenon of wave propagation in disordered media is called a metal-insulator transition: a disordered medium can exhibit good transport prop erties for waves ofrelatively high energy (like a metal) and suppress the propaga tion of waves of low energy (like an insulator). Here we are actually talking about quantum mechanical wave functions that are used to describe electronic transport properties. To give an initial idea of why such a phenomenon could occur, we have to recall that in physical theories waves are represented by solutions to certain partial differential equations. These equations link time derivatives to spatial derivatives.

Book My Eating Disorder

Download or read book My Eating Disorder written by Branch Kimball and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2015-08-12 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarizes how anorexia and bulimia affected my life in the past and how it troubles my present. It has affected my relationships at home, school, and work. Indulging in behaviors brought me to rock bottom when I had to quit my job and nearly separated from my wife. I spent three months in residential treatment for my eating disorder. All my meals and bathroom breaks were monitored. I could not stop my behaviors on my own; I was literally addicted to them. This book also summarizes principles of recovery I used to help me fix the cognitive distortions that kept me blind from reality. It summarizes things I learned in residential that I hope all who struggle with an eating disorder, or any addictive behavior, can use. All names and places have been fictionalized at the request of my publisher. The stories are real.

"You're doomed to remain idle. You're imprisoned in yourself in a state of nothingness, unless you start teaching what you know online." Anna Kow handed Sara a box of tissues as her tears rolled down into her collar. "Is there any reason for my existing?" Anna asked me. Sara looked at Anna, not at me. There was a pause of silence. "I'm hiring you as my mentor even though you're a visual anthropologist and a journalist," Anna said in a throaty voice. "Do you mind?" "I'll squeeze you into my girdle," Consuelo said. "Mentoring you won't work at this early stage. I'll put you down for one-on-one, starting this evening at seven in my office-without Sara." Consuelo jotted Anna's name and phone number in her appointment book. "How do you like being mother to the world?" Anna asked. "Someone's already asked me that before, when I wrapped a young woman in a blanket and asked her to tell me what she felt like as she confessed her anger at her betrayer." What happens when an extreme liberal meets an extreme conservative? Are they diagnosed with a mental disease or a character disorder? Or is it all a publicity campaign? In a novel of intrigue, will the anthropologist return a tougher soldier than ever? Two females pit their wits in a game and adventure that takes them half way around the world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Calming the Bipolar Storm:A Guide for Patients and Their Families is for people with bipolar disorder, and anyone who loves or cares for them. This work captures the rapidly advancing research and treatment strategies in the field of bipolar disorders. Discussing causes, presentation, onset, course, and treatments, the book encourages bipolar persons to set a healthy baseline, outlining five areas that promote good overall health in support of their particular circumstances: diet, exercise, sleep, avoiding substance misuse, and finding social support. In this context, Robert G. Fawcett discusses specific medications and their side effects, offering comparisons among them where possible. He describes other biological treatments such as herbs and supplements, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), bright light treatment, and sleep deprivation. A discussion of psychotherapies for bipolar includes not only some of the evidence-based treatments such as cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal and social rhythm, and family-focused therapies, but also supportive therapy, which is what patients most commonly encounter. Drawing from the author’s experience treating patients with bipolar disorder for more than forty years Calming the Bipolar Storm presents an in-depth, engaging overview of bipolar disorder and its treatment, punctuated with case vignettes and interesting glimpses into the history behind today’s concept of bipolar disorder and its treatments. Readers, both sufferers and their families, will come away with a better understanding of bipolar disorder and a clearer path to better treatment.
