Book An Introduction to Cathodic Protection

Download or read book An Introduction to Cathodic Protection written by J. Paul Guyer and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-09-04 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cathodic protection is a method to reduce corrosion by minimizing the difference in potential between anode and cathode. This is achieved by applying a current to the structure to be protected (such as a pipeline) from some outside source. When enough current is applied, the whole structure will be at one potential; thus, anode and cathode sites will not exist. Cathodic protection is commonly used on many types of structures, such as pipelines, underground storage tanks, locks, and ship hulls.

Book Cathodic Protection Field Trials on Prestressed Concrete Components Final Report

Download or read book Cathodic Protection Field Trials on Prestressed Concrete Components Final Report written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the final report in a study to demonstrate the feasibility of using cathodic protection (CP) on concrete bridge structures containing prestressed steel. The interim report, FHWA-RD-95-032, has more details on the installation of selected CP systems. Past laboratory and test yard studies had indicated that overprotection could result in the evolution of atomic hydrogen and the embrittlement of prestressing steel. Systems utilizing catalyzed titanium mesh, conductive rubber, and arc-sprayed zinc anodes were installed on prestressed pilings and girders of the Howard Frankland Bridge in Tampa, Florida; and systems using flame-sprayed zinc and conductive paint anodes were installed on the soffit of prestressed box beams of the Abbey Road and West 130th Street bridges near Cleveland, Ohio. For most of the components tested, CP was achieved safely and reliably without reaching conditions that could result in embrittlement of prestressed steel.

Book Demonstration of Remote Monitoring Technology for Cathodic Protection Systems Phase II

Download or read book Demonstration of Remote Monitoring Technology for Cathodic Protection Systems Phase II written by and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 1997 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Army owns and maintains more than 3000 miles of buried natural gas pipeline, 20,000 underground storage tanks (USTs), and more than 300 elevated water storage tanks. Cathodic protection (CP) is required by regulation on many of these structures to prevent corrosion. Periodic testing is required to ensure proper CP system operation, but many Directorates of Public Works (DPWs) do not have sufficient resources to conduct such tests regularly. Many malfunctions remain undetected until the structure corrodes and leaks. Several companies have begun manufacturing remote monitoring units (RMUs) for CP systems. This technology allows personnel to monitor multiple CP systems from a central location so problems can be detected and repaired immediately. An 8 month field evaluation of CP RMUs was performed to determine the effectiveness of systems from three manufacturers. Demonstration systems were selected on the basis of cost, features, availability, etc. RMU readings were compared with manual method readings throughout a variety of conditions. Units from only one manufacturer performed successfully. New systems have entered the market since this demonstration began.

Book Corrosion Control for Offshore Structures

Download or read book Corrosion Control for Offshore Structures written by Ramesh Singh and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-12 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A variable game changer for those companies operating in hostile, corrosive marine environments, Corrosion Control for Offshore Structures provides critical corrosion control tips and techniques that will prolong structural life while saving millions in cost. In this book, Ramesh Singh explains the ABCs of prolonging structural life of platforms and pipelines while reducing cost and decreasing the risk of failure. Corrosion Control for Offshore Structures places major emphasis on the popular use of cathodic protection (CP) combined with high efficiency coating to prevent subsea corrosion. This reference begins with the fundamental science of corrosion and structures and then moves on to cover more advanced topics such as cathodic protection, coating as corrosion prevention using mill applied coatings, field applications, and the advantages and limitations of some common coating systems. In addition, the author provides expert insight on a number of NACE and DNV standards and recommended practices as well as ISO and Standard and Test Methods. Packed with tables, charts and case studies, Corrosion Control for Offshore Structures is a valuable guide to offshore corrosion control both in terms of its theory and application. Prolong the structural life of your offshore platforms and pipelines Understand critical topics such as cathodic protection and coating as corrosion prevention with mill applied coatings Gain expert insight on a number of NACE and DNV standards and recommended practices as well as ISO and Standard Test Methods.
