Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Religion is an essential part of our humanity. We all follow some form of religion, in the original meaning of the word. But organized religion establishes definitions, boundaries and hierarchies which the founders would be amazed by. This is perhaps more true of Christianity than most other religions, due to the short life of Jesus, his sudden death, the lack of any contemporary records. His teaching about the kingdom of God is great; it could see us through our time on earth. But his followers watered it down and soon lost it altogether. It became a kingdom in heaven for the few, rather than one here and now for everyone. The Church, or Churches, that resulted became increasingly irrelevant, even a hindrance, to seeing it realized. Many will always find security and truth in the traditions that developed, and good for them. But for those who can't, for those who have given up on religion or never thought it worth considering, the original teachings are worth another look. If we could recover them and live by them, we could change ourselves and the world for the better. We could bring God up to date.

Book Commentary on the New Testament

Download or read book Commentary on the New Testament written by Robert H. Gundry and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2010-07-01 with total page 2399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Verse-by-verse explanations with a literal translation Shouldn't a Bible commentary clarify what God's Word actually says? Going beyond questions of authorship, date, sources, and historicity, respected linguist and teacher Gundry offers a one-volume exposition of the New Testament that focuses on what is most useful for preaching, teaching, and individual study--what the biblical text really means. Providing interpretive observations in a "breezy" style that's easy to read and adaptable for oral use in pulpit or classroom presentations, Gundry directs his book to an evangelical audience. His crisp translation of the New Testament inserts various phrasings of passages in brackets, allowing for smooth transition from original text to alternative and contemporary readings. SAMPLE TEXT OF TRANSLATION JOHN'S PREDICTING A MORE POWERFUL BAPTIZER THAN HE (Mark 1:1-8) 1:1-3: The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, God's Son, according as it's written in Isaiah the prophet, "Behold, I'm sending my messenger before your face [= ahead of you], who'll pave your way [= the road you'll travel], [the messenger who is] the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way of the Lord. Make his paths straight.'" Pastors, Sunday school teachers, small-group leaders, and laypeople will welcome Gundry's non-technical explanations and clarifications. And Bible students at all levels will appreciate his sparkling interpretations of the NT Scriptures. A trustworthy guide for anybody wanting to delve deeper into God's Word. SAMPLE TEXT OF COMMENTS "Gospel" means "good news." Jews would associate this good news with Isaiah 52:7. Non-Jews would think of the good news of an emperor's accession to power, birthday, visit to a city, military victory, or bringing of prosperity to the empire. But Mark's good news has to do with the salvation and victory brought by Jesus over evil in all its demonic and physical forms. "The gospel of Jesus Christ" therefore means "the gospel about Jesus Christ" and refers to a proclaimed message ("the voice of one crying out"), not a book (though because books like Mark's contain that proclaimed message, the term came to refer to those books in the capitalized form of "Gospels" to distinguish them from the message, kept uncapitalized as "gospel").

Book Harpazo

  • Pages : 72 pages

Download or read book Harpazo written by Tim Horrell and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-12-05 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine that millions of people have just vanished from the earth. Where did they go? Why did they go? Harpazo: A Layman's Guide to the Rapture explores these questions from a scriptural point of view. Using plain English and the King James Version scriptural references, the case is made that the rapture is a real event that we should be expecting at any moment. It encourages the reader to search out the scriptures for themselves and to pray that the Holy Spirit will reveal this mystery that Paul spoke of. It is not written from a theologian's perspective but from a lover of Christ who felt the need to share these things with others as they were learned and revealed through his personal journey. This book can be used as an evangelical tool and a Bible-study tool or just to add to one's personal journey with our Lord Jesus. See how the rapture models the first-century Jewish wedding traditions and how the Church is the bride of Christ. How easy the book of "the Revelation of Jesus Christ" is to understand when you become familiar with the outline within the Scripture, understanding the church age and where we fit in on that timeline.

Book Creation in Contemporary Experience

Download or read book Creation in Contemporary Experience written by David Moffett-Moore and published by Energion Publications. This book was released on 2014-04-16 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do the things we believe about God as creator make any difference in the way we act in the world? Yes, what we believe about God as creator impacts our theology and action in many ways. In this book, Dr. David Moffett-Moore will examine some of these implications by looking at topics as diverse as quantum physics and chaos theory, hermeneutics, ethics, and how we tell stories of faith. Can one accept the major theories of science, including evolution and still be a faithful believer? What do these findings of science mean for the way we do theology in the 21st century? Dr. Moffett-Moore not only believes that we can accept the findings of science and still be faithful Christians, he believes that discoveries in fields such as physics and biology can help us talk about God in a more relevant and compelling way than we ever have before. When we talk about God in this new way, we will also find a new call to live in a way that is faithful both to the wonders of the physical Creation, and also to scripture. This study is designed for individual reading and study. Though it does not include questions and other traditional elements of a study guide, it would still be an excellent guide for small group study on these topics.

Book excerpt: "Most contemporary young people operate far enough from Moses’ moral compass that it never occurs to them that “OMG” (“oh my God,” in teenspeak) has anything to do with the Ten Commandments, much less that it breaks one of them. After all, the phrase is a nearly ubiquitous adolescent throw-away line...Yet Christians should hear the phrase “oh my God” differently. Youth ministers, parents, teachers—anyone who has ever loved an adolescent—know that “OMG” can be a prayer, a plea, a petition, a note of praise, or an unbidden entreaty that escapes our lips as we seek Christ for the young people we love." from the book Using six lens the authors detail current practices and tease out underlying questions as youth ministry becomes more self-consciously aligned with practical theology. Contributors include: Kenda Creasy Dean, Mike Carotta, Roland Martinson, Rodger Nishioka, Don Richter, Dayle Gillespie Rounds, and Amy Scott Vaughn.

Book God Man And It Just Had to Be

Download or read book God Man And It Just Had to Be written by Dr. Tony G. Minyard and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-04-30 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book took some great thought to write, but And It Just Had to Be! is paramount to everything that Christianity stands for. The work of Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection, is crucial to our faith. The key factor is the oneness of Christ in us. This book highlights the factor of what Christ really did for us to appease the wrath of God. The choice is freewill. The truth is we have been translated from darkness to light. We are all sinners saved by the grace of God, but we have to accept this gift to have eternal life. However, if you reject this gift, then the wrath of God is on you, my friend. There were elements that were very personal that happened during my rebellious years in unbelief, and it happens to many people. It's sad, but it does, right? Trust me, learn from my mistakes; please repent really quick. You don't know what the price is. I talk about surrender being the first step to accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior. Salvation is a onetime event if it's genuine, but throughout your life, it's an everyday deal, the real one. Sometimes we ride the fence and think everything is A-OK, but it's not. Please have intimacy with God. He loves us very much. The Christian life ends when we're at the Judgment Seat of Christ. I hope no one appears at the Great White Throne Judgment. I covered many topics in this book to illustrate biblical concepts for you to grasp the truth. This is very serious stuff in the eyes of God. The purpose of this book is for you to make the right choice--repent or not. Remember, God believes in you. You might be in that rebellious life, but just surrender back to God.

Book Seeing Christ in the New Testament

Download or read book Seeing Christ in the New Testament written by Stephen Kaung and published by Christian Fellowship Publishers. This book was released on 2010-09-29 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Holy Scriptures, the Bible, is the foundation of our faith. It is God-breathed. It gives us the full knowledge of Him and of His Son. “This is the eternal life, that they should know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent” (John 17:3). God’s word gives us eternal life through faith in Christ Jesus. It makes us men and women of God. It is most profitable for our spiritual life, for it teaches us, convicts us, corrects us, and instructs us in righteousness. Thus, we are made complete and fully equipped to do God’s will. We are exhorted by our Lord himself to search the Scriptures for in them is the witness concerning Him (see John 5:37). A special blessing is given by God to those who read, hear and keep His word (see Revelation 1:3). The New Testament is composed of twenty-seven books. Each of these twenty-seven books reveals Christ to us in a special aspect of His fullness. Thus, we are able to know Christ in His fullness. In this volume, each book in the New Testament is briefly discussed, with special attention to seeing Christ in His fullness. It is not an exhaustive study, its purpose simply being to offer a taste of the sweet word of God so as to induce us to search His word more diligently. May He draw us deeper into His word so that we may be drawn deeper into Him.

Book Jesus Ministry

Download or read book Jesus Ministry written by James Magee and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2012-09 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is action-packed with fresh revelation from heaven. Who am I to receive such precious insight on the kingdom of God? Writing this book really revealed to me of how much God loves us through these hidden truths. One of the most important part of our Christian walk is finding out our purpose for life. This will only come through Jesus ministering to us. This is exactly what happened to me as I wrote this book. I thought that I would one day pastor a church, but as I was writing this book, Jesus revealed to me that this is my purpose for life. While writing, I realized that everything was coming to me so effortlessly and I was enjoying it so much that He just confirmed what I was thinking. This is exactly what will happen for you. We have to learn to rest in Jesus, and He will flow through us to bless others. This is what I call the Jesus' Ministry. As we yield to Jesus, He will reveal our purpose for life that He will use to bless other people. This will bring great fulfillment to your life, as well as allowing Jesus to minister to others through you.
