Download or read book Catastrophe At Calico written by Bill Brown and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-10-25 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While a parent guide on a field trip for my daughter’s fifth grade class I had a few moments to chat and daydream with Tiffany, my daughter and two of her friends, J.J. and Kelley. The idea for a story came from that time of imagination. They spoke of the possible mystery in the old ghost town which was the seed to the story combining both current and historical Calico. The need for a little Si-Fi was to connect the two moments across time. The dedication for this book belongs to those three, who gave me a most memorable day at Calico Ghost Town and the following thirteen years of putting it all together.

Book excerpt: There's nothing scarier than the truth... Noel's got issues. Like, he doesn't know what to call his lover. Are they boyfriends? A fling that got out of control? Something more? Even worse, he may sometimes get waylaid by a random ghost or two. Or else he's losing his mind. Now Adam? He's stable and solid and warm; the kind of guy Noel never knew he wanted. He's also the historian on Haunts and Hoaxes, which gives him a professional interest in Noel's "special talent". When the ghost hunting crew turns up something weirder than normal at a Louisiana plantation, Adam convinces Noel to check it out. Instead of finding a haunt, they uncover a mystery. Noel used to be a cop and he grabs the chance to investigate something real. DNA is evidence. No matter what Adam says, the ghosts don't prove anything. But the past is done hiding and the spirits are going to have their say. Noel better figure out how to listen, because Adam's job, their relationship, and even his sanity are at risk.

Download or read book S ren Kierkegaard and Climate Catastrophe written by Isak Winkel Holm and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022-12-08 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Søren Kierkegaard's work is teeming with images of earthquakes, floods, storms, volcanic eruptions, wildfires, burned down cities, and apocalyptic events that 'let the heavens fall and the stars change their places in the overturning of everything'. These disaster images are not just rhetorical packaging of the philosophical and theological content of his works. Rather, disasters play an important but largely understudied role in Kierkegaard's analysis of human existence. Kierkegaard and Climate Catastrophe focuses on prophetic noir in Kierkegaard's work: the sombre mood that is evoked when the shadow of future disaster falls upon the present. Isak Winkel Holm's core contention is that the prophetic noir in Kierkegaard, modelled after the prophetic books of the Hebrew Bible, contributes to making his works urgently relevant today. From the vantage point of the contemporary world threatened by rapidly evolving climate catastrophes, Kierkegaard's analysis of human existence emerges in a more sombre light, dimmed by the future disaster: to exist, in the emphatic sense Kierkegaard gave to that word, is to live a meaningful human life even if things are darkened by the coming calamity. Thus, a thorough analysis of the prophetic noir in Kierkegaard offers an existential perspective on living in a world threatened by environmental devastation.

Download or read book Radiocarbon Dating written by R.E. Taylor and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-06-03 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a major revision and expansion of Taylor’s seminal book Radiocarbon Dating: An Archaeological Perspective. It covers the major advances and accomplishments of the 14C method in archaeology and analyzes factors that affect the accuracy and precision of 14C-based age estimates. In addition to reviewing the basic principles of the method, it examines 14C dating anomalies and means to resolve them, and considers the critical application of 14C data as a dating isotope with special emphasis on issues in Old and New World archaeology and late Quaternary paleoanthropology. This volume, again a benchmark for 14C dating, critically reflects on the method and data that underpins, in so many cases, the validity of the chronologies used to understand the prehistoric archaeological record.
