Book Spillover and Mobility of Species on Solid Surfaces

Download or read book Spillover and Mobility of Species on Solid Surfaces written by A. Guerrero-Ruiz and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-08-02 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Spillover and Mobility of Species and Solid Surfaces" collects the papers which were presented at the Fifth International Conference Spillover, either as oral or poster contributions, as well as the summaries of the invited lectures. This congress and its publication in the Studies on Surface Science and Catalysis series follow the tradition of previous conferences on spillover, initiated in Lyon, 1983, and continued in Leipzig, 1989, Kyoto 1993 and Dalian, 1997. For the fifth conference, held in S.L. el Escorial (Madrid), the organising committee has attempted to compile representative contributions which illustrate the advances in understanding the spillover phenomenon since 1997. Spillover is a process taking place during the interface of gas reactant molecules (mainly hydrogen and oxygen) on solid surfaces. However, different contributions to the more general area of the chemistry at surfaces, related with the mobility and migration of species, diffusion through membranes, fuel cell catalysts, etc., have also been included. In fact the title of the present volume summarizes this attempt to extend the conference topics towards dynamics at surfaces.Among the 70 contributions received, the 56 accepted papers were selected on the basis of the reports of at least two international reviewers, according to standards comparable to those applied for other specialised journals. These papers are from 21 different countries.

Book Synthesis Characterization and Activity of Palladium Catalysts on the Dual Support of Cerium and Aluminum Oxides

Download or read book Synthesis Characterization and Activity of Palladium Catalysts on the Dual Support of Cerium and Aluminum Oxides written by Jihyeon Park and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of sequence of impregnation (Pd on cerium oxides -alumina and cerium oxides on Pd-alumina) and calcination temperature (500 °C and 850 °C) on the catalytic oxidation of methane under lean conditions were investigated. The catalysts were prepared by a combination of impregnation, slurry and vortexing methods. The catalysts had 4.7 wt.% Pd and 10.7 wt.% Ce based on inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) analysis. The catalysts were characterized by pulse chemisorption, temperature programmed reduction (TPD), scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The activity of the catalysts for methane combustion was measured in a fixed-bed flow reactor by flowing a gas mix (0.98 vol % methane, 4.01 vol % and balance nitrogen) through a catalytic bed. The temperature of the catalytic bed was controlled by a temperature -controlled tube furnace. The % methane in the effluent gas mix was measured by a gas chromatograph fitted with a flame ionization detector and a ‘Carbon Plot’ column. Palladium was present as PdO and PdOx x>2+ and cerium as CeOx (+3 and +4 oxidation states) as per XPS analysis. The activity of the Pd/cerium oxides-alumina500C catalyst was higher than the cerium oxides/Pd-alumina500C catalyst at 250-500 °C. Similar trends in the activity were seen for the two catalysts calcined at 850 °C. Higher dispersion and lower particle size, and the presence of small Pd particles on alumina accounted for the higher catalytic activities of the Pd/cerium oxides-alumina500C and 850C catalysts. The lower activities of cerium oxides/Pd-alumina500C and 850C were primarily due to the embedment of Pd onto ceria due to strong PdO-CeOx interactions. This research implies that the sequence of impregnation and calcination temperature could alter catalytic properties and activity for methane combustion through PdO/PdOx -support interactions.

Book Preparation of Catalysts VII

Download or read book Preparation of Catalysts VII written by R. Maggi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1998-08-17 with total page 1007 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proceedings of the VIIth International Symposium on the Scientific Bases for the Preparation of Heterogeneous Catalysts, are in line with the general scope of this series of events. Emphasis in all Symposia has been on the scientific aspects of the preparation of new and industrial catalysts, or on new methods of preparation, rather than on the catalytic reactions in which such solids are ultimately used. In the present context, the catalytic event itself has only been considered as another, though often decisive, method of catalyst characterization.

Book Methane Conversion

Download or read book Methane Conversion written by D.M. Bibby and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1988-03-01 with total page 759 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This proceedings volume comprises the invited plenary lectures, contributed and poster papers presented at a symposium organised to mark the successful inauguration of the world's first commercial plant for production of gasoline from natural gas, based on the Mobil methanol-to-gasoline process. The objectives of the Symposium were to present both fundamental research and engineering aspects of the development and commercialization of gas-to-gasoline processes. These include steam reforming, methanol synthesis and methanol-to-gasoline. Possible alternative processes e.g. MOGD, Fischer-Tropsch synthesis of hydrocarbons, and the direct conversion of methane to higher hydrocarbons were also considered. The papers in this volume provide a valuable and extremely wide-ranging overview of current research into the various options for natural gas conversion, giving a detailed description of the gas-to-gasoline process and plant. Together, they represent a unique combination of fundamental surface chemistry catalyst characterization, reaction chemistry and engineering scale-up and commercialization.

Book Catalytic Oxidation of Methane at Low Space Velocities

Download or read book Catalytic Oxidation of Methane at Low Space Velocities written by Derry W. Marshall and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The feasibility of removing methane from an airstream by catalytic oxidation at low flows was investigated by passing a one percent, by volume, methane in airstream through an inhouse designed and fabricated stainless steel reactor. The reactor contained either Hopcalite, 5% V2O5 - 5% MoO3 on alumina, or one of the following materials supported on alumina: 0/5% palladium, 0.5% platinum, 0.5% rhodium, and 0.5% ruthenium. Some discontinuity in the data reported in the literature on methane oxidation at or around the transition flow region prompted a closer investigation in this area. In addition, space velocities around 500 fills per hour were used to insure chemical equilibrium and for comparison with the more common value of approximately 15,000 fills per hour used in most industrial applications. Experiments performed using the above catalyst revealed no deleterious effects associated with operating in the transition flow region, but did point out the advantage of using high space velocities for maximum catalyst utilization. The palladium catalyst proved superior to all others tested and catalyzed the reaction to completion at 560 F. Conversion versus temperature curves are plotted for each catalyst flow rate combination and the effect of space velocity on conversion at constant temperature is shown for the Hopcalite and palladium catalysts. Variables which affected the accuracy of experimentation most are discussed and possible improvements suggested. (Author).
