Book Carbon Dioxide Chemistry Capture and Oil Recovery

Download or read book Carbon Dioxide Chemistry Capture and Oil Recovery written by Iyad Karamé and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-08-16 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fossil fuels still need to meet the growing demand of global economic development, yet they are often considered as one of the main sources of the CO2 release in the atmosphere. CO2, which is the primary greenhouse gas (GHG), is periodically exchanged among the land surface, ocean, and atmosphere where various creatures absorb and produce it daily. However, the balanced processes of producing and consuming the CO2 by nature are unfortunately faced by the anthropogenic release of CO2. Decreasing the emissions of these greenhouse gases is becoming more urgent. Therefore, carbon sequestration and storage (CSS) of CO2, its utilization in oil recovery, as well as its conversion into fuels and chemicals emerge as active options and potential strategies to mitigate CO2 emissions and climate change, energy crises, and challenges in the storage of energy.

Book Electrochemical and Electrocatalytic Reactions of Carbon Dioxide

Download or read book Electrochemical and Electrocatalytic Reactions of Carbon Dioxide written by B.P. Sullivan and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recycling of atmospheric molecules for use as fuels and chemicals is a goal which can only be achieved through a deeper understanding of catalytic processes, particularly electrocatalysis whereby redox transformations can be interfaced with solar or nuclear energy input. Carbon dioxide is a prototypical small molecule in many regards since it is chemically inert. In addition, because of the likely role of carbon dioxide in global temperature cycles, it will be imperative in the future to regulate the output from industrial processes. The purpose of this book is to present a unified discussion of the carbon dioxide chemistry which is necessary for the understanding and design of electrochemically-driven processes for the reduction of carbon dioxide and to provide an impetus for the further development of electrocatalytic carbon dioxide chemistry.

Book Carbon Dioxide Electrochemistry

Download or read book Carbon Dioxide Electrochemistry written by Marc Robert and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2020-10-14 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conversion of light and electricity to chemicals is an important component of a sustainable energy system. The exponential growth in renewable energy generation implies that there will be strong market pull for chemical energy storage technology in the near future, and here carbon dioxide utilization must play a central role. The electrochemical conversion of carbon dioxide is key in achieving these goals. Carbon Dioxide Electrochemistry showcases different advances in the field, and bridges the two worlds of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis that are often perceived as in competition in research. Chapters cover homogeneous and heterogeneous electrochemical reduction of CO2, nanostructures for CO2 reduction, hybrid systems for CO2 conversion, electrochemical reactors, theoretical approaches to catalytic reduction of CO2, and photoelectrodes for electrochemical conversion. With internationally well-known editors and authors, this book will appeal to graduate students and researchers in energy, catalysis, chemical engineering and chemistry who work on carbon dioxide.

Book Electrochemical Photochemical CO2 Reduction Catalyzed by Transition Metal Complexes

Download or read book Electrochemical Photochemical CO2 Reduction Catalyzed by Transition Metal Complexes written by Hitoshi Ishida and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conversion of CO2 into useful chemicals is attractive as a solution of the fossil fuel shortage and the global warming problems. Reduction of CO2 into carbon monoxide (CO) and formic acid (HCOOH) is also important for obtaining the materials in organic syntheses. There are a lot of studies on the catalysts for electrochemical/photochemical CO2 reduction. Especially, transition metal complexes have actively researched as the molecular catalysts for CO2 reduction. In this chapter, the electrochemical/photochemical CO2 reduction catalyzed by cis-[Ru(bpy)2(CO)2]2+ (bpy: 2,2'-bipyridine) and trans(Cl)-[Ru(bpy)(CO)2Cl2] is described as a representative example.

Book Homogeneous Transition metal Catalysis

Download or read book Homogeneous Transition metal Catalysis written by Christopher Masters and published by Springer. This book was released on 1981 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soluble catalysts are used extensively in many branches of chemistry and are indeed a vital constituent of many natural processes. They find wide application throughout the chemical industry where they assist in the production of several million tonnes of chemicals each year. Since homogeneous systems, especially those incorporating transition metals, often function effectively under milder conditions than their heterogeneous counterparts, they are becoming increasingly important at a time when the chemical industry in particular, and society in general, is seeking ways of conserving energy and of making the best possible use of available resources. My principal objective in· writing this book is to engender sufficient enthusiasm for, and knowledge of, the subject in the reader that he or she will be encouraged to begin, or continue, to make their own contribution to advancing our knowledge of homogeneous catalysis. After attempting to acquaint the reader with some of the ground rules I have tried to describe the .present scope, and the future potential, of this fascinating field of chemistry by drawing both on academic and on industrial data sources. This approach stems from a personal conviction that future progress could be considerably hastened by a more meaningful dialogue between chemists working both in industrial and in academic research institutions. Wherever possible, examples of the commercial application of homogeneous catalyst systems have been included and no attempt has been made in any way to disguise the many unresolved questions and exciting challenges which still pervade this rapidly developing area.
