Lang's botanical collecting in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland in 1901 on a New York Botanical Garden expedition. It is comprised of a list of specimen numbers 1-1610, collected June 23-September 6, 1901. Entries include plant name, date, location, and brief descriptions of plant and habitat. Some do not have the plant name. Pages 1-2 have an itinerary and index. A one-page list of Sphagnum specimens is tipped-in at the front, and three pages of notes on assorted specimens is tipped-in at the back of the notebook. Lang was a museum aid at the New York Botanical Garden, and Howe was a fellow in botany at the University of Chicago at the time of the expedition. The expedition was led by Marshall Avery Howe, at the time assistant curator at NYBG.
