Book Advancing Grounded Theory with Mixed Methods

Download or read book Advancing Grounded Theory with Mixed Methods written by Elizabeth G. Creamer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-08-30 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This groundbreaking book introduces an innovative new perspective on mixed method grounded theory methodology (MM-GTM) by conceptualizing it holistically as a distinct, qualitatively driven methodology that appreciates the integrity of each of the methods it embraces. This practical and accessible text advocates for using MM-GTM in a way that promote meaningful interaction between qualitative and quantitative data during analysis. Its principal contribution is to provide a set of research tools to develop or refine a multi-faceted analytical framework in applied fields in the social and behavioral sciences, including nursing. Used as either a resource or a textbook in a survey course about research methods, the text references dozens of examples about how a dialectical exchange between different sources of data can be built into core grounded theory procedures, including theoretical sampling, coding, case-based memoing, and integrated visual displays. With a whole chapter devoted to reporting, the book also considers the way that indexes of quality that extend beyond methodological transparency can be used to evaluate research that partners mixed methods with grounded theory and other qualitative methods. Featuring student-friendly pedagogy throughout, including self-assessment questions, a glossary, and a framework that summarizes key points, this text is an essential read for all research methods students or early career researchers ambitious to develop a theoretical perspective with qualitative, mixed methods, or evaluation.

Download or read book Revealed Sciences written by Justin K. Stearns and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-07-08 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Demonstrating the vibrancy of an Early Modern Muslim society through a study of the natural sciences in seventeenth-century Morocco, Revealed Sciences examines how the natural sciences flourished during this period, without developing in a similar way to the natural sciences in Europe. Offering an innovative analysis of the relationship between religious thought and the natural sciences, Justin K. Stearns shows how nineteenth and twentieth-century European and Middle Eastern scholars jointly developed a narrative of the decline of post-formative Islamic thought, including the fate of the natural sciences in the Muslim world. Challenging these depictions of the natural sciences in the Muslim world, Stearns uses numerous close readings of works in the natural sciences to a detailed overview of the place of the natural sciences in scholarly and educational landscapes of the Early Modern Magreb, and considers non-teleological possibilities for understanding a persistent engagement with the natural sciences in Early Modern Morocco.

Book Radical Cataloging

Download or read book Radical Cataloging written by K.R. Roberto and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-03-07 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of critical and scholarly essays addresses the state of cataloging in the world of librarianship. The contributors, including Sanford Berman, Thomas Mann, and numerous front-line library workers, address topics ranging from criticisms of the state of the profession and traditional Library of Congress cataloging to methods of making cataloging more inclusive and helpful to library users. Other essay topics include historical overviews of cataloging practices and the literature they generate, first-person discussions of library workers' experiences with cataloging or metadata work, and the implications behind what materials get cataloged, who catalogs them, and how. Several essays provide a critical overview of innovative cataloging practices and the ways that such practices have been successfully integrated in many of the nation's leading libraries. Instructors considering this book for use in a course may request an examination copy here.

Book Text Lies and Cataloging

Download or read book Text Lies and Cataloging written by Jana Brubaker and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2018-07-09 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What do James Frey's A Million Little Pieces, Margaret B. Jones' Love and Consequence and Wanda Koolmatrie's My Own Sweet Time have in common? None of these popular books are what they appear to be. Frey's fraudulent drug addiction "memoir" was really a semi-fictional novel, Jones' chronicle of her life in a street gang was a complete fabrication, and Koolmatrie was not an Aboriginal woman removed from her family as a child, as in her seemingly autobiographical account, but rather a white taxi driver named Leon Carmen. Deceptive literary works mislead readers and present librarians with a dilemma. Whether making recommendations to patrons or creating catalog records, objectivity and accuracy are crucial--and can be difficult when a book's authorship or veracity is in doubt. This informative (and entertaining!) study addresses ethical considerations for deceptive works and proposes cataloging solutions that are provocative and designed to spark debate. An extensive annotated bibliography describes books that are not what they seem.

Book Cooperative Cataloging

Download or read book Cooperative Cataloging written by Rebecca Mugridge and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-01-02 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by some of the most experienced practitioners and managers in the field of cataloging, this collection examines cooperative cataloging activities in its many forms. Containing both case studies and research studies, as well as opinion pieces, it explores the benefits and cost-effectiveness of cooperative cataloging programs such as the OCLC Enhance program, and Program for Cooperative Cataloging programs such as BIBCO, CONSER, NACO, and SACO. It also provides an introduction to less well-known cooperative efforts such as the Library of Congress National Union Catalog of Manuscript Collections (NUCMC) and the ISSN Register. Cooperative cataloging efforts offer creative opportunities for managers and administrators as they attempt to provide effective intellectual access to the rapidly increasing number of publications acquired by our libraries. This book will help such professionals to evaluate the effectiveness of cooperative efforts and apply them in their own unique circumstances. This book was published as a special issue in Cataloging & Classification Quarterly.
