This book was released on 2018-07-23 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This catalog collects and describes science payloads considered for future robotic and human exploration missions to the Moon and Mars. The science disciplines included are geosciences, meteorology, space physics, astronomy and astrophysics, life sciences, in-situ resource utilization, and robotic science. Science payload data is helpful for mission scientists and engineers developing reference architectures and detailed descriptions of mission organizations. One early step in advanced planning is formulating the science questions for each mission and identifying the instrumentation required to address these questions. The next critical element is to establish and quantify the supporting infrastructure required to deliver, emplace, operate, and maintain the science experiments with human crews or robots. This requires a comprehensive collection of up-to-date science payload information--hence the birth of this catalog. Divided into lunar and Mars sections, the catalog describes the physical characteristics of science instruments in terms of mass, volume, power and data requirements, mode of deployment and operation, maintenance needs, and technological readiness. It includes descriptions of science payloads for specific missions that have been studied in the last two years: the Scout Program, the Artemis Program, the First Lunar Outpost, and the Mars Exploration Program. Book Martian Geomorphology

    Book Details:
  • Author : Matthew R. Balme
  • Publisher : Geological Society of London
  • Release : 2011
  • ISBN : 9781862393301
  • Pages : 328 pages

Download or read book Martian Geomorphology written by Matthew R. Balme and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2011 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The latest Mars missions are returning data of unprecedented fidelity in their representation of the martian surface. New data include images with spatial resolution better than 30 cm per pixel, stereo imaging-derived terrain models with one meter postings, high-resolution imaging spectroscopy, and RADAR data that reveal subsurface structure. This book reveals how this information is being used to understand the evolution of martian landscapes, and includes topics such as fluvial flooding, permafrost and periglacial landforms, debris flows, deposition and erosion of sedimentary material, and the origin of lineaments on Phobos, the larger martian moon. Contemporary remote sensing data of Mars, on a par with those of Earth, reveal landscapes strikingly similar to regions of our own planet, so this book will be of interest to Earth scientists and planetary scientists alike. An overview chapter summarising Mars' climate, geology and exploration is included for the benefit of those new to Mars.

Book The Case for Mars VI

Download or read book The Case for Mars VI written by Kelly R. McMillen and published by Univelt. This book was released on 2000 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the cold war over, advocates of colonizing the red planet argue that overpopulation is the direst threat to our home planet and that we an additional one for the overflow. The 54 papers cover building support for low-cost missions, essential technology and proposed infrastructure, scientific and engineering measures for reducing the cost of precursor missions, and designing a habitable planet. Working groups report on such topics as programmatics and philosophy and non-government approaches. There is no subject index. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
