Book Cassiar Timber Supply Area

Download or read book Cassiar Timber Supply Area written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The British Columbia Forest Service is reviewing the timber supply in all timber supply areas (TSAs) and tree farm licence areas in the province to identify the economic, environmental, and social consequences of existing forest management practices, identify where improved information is needed, and provide information to make necessary adjustments to the allowable annual cuts (AACs) for the next five years. This discussion paper summarizes the technical reports from the timber supply review in the Cassiar TSA. It describes the timber supply review process; the Cassiar TSA, including forest resources, current AAC, and a socio-economic profile; current management practices; timber supply forecasts and critical factors, including a base case forecast; and environmental and socio-economic impacts.

Book British Columbia s Inland Rainforest

Download or read book British Columbia s Inland Rainforest written by Susan Stevenson and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2011-07 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The vast temperate rainforests of coastal British Columbia are world renowned, but much less is known about the other rainforest located 500 kilometres inland along the western slopes of the interior mountains. The unique integration of continentality and humidity in this region favours the development of lush rainforest communities that incorporate both coastal and boreal elements. In British Columbia's Inland Rainforest, scientists bring together, for the first time, a broad spectrum of information about this distinctive ecosystem. They also consider the ecological consequences of human activities in the rainforest and present strategies for its management and conservation.

Book Cassiar Timber Supply Area

Download or read book Cassiar Timber Supply Area written by Larry Pedersen and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cassiar Timber Supply Area (TSA) covers over 14.8 million hectares in north-west British Columbia. About 1.3% of the TSA area is available for timber harvesting under current management considerations & objectives. After a brief description of the TSA area, this report reviews the principles for determining the allowable annual cut for the area and presents an accounting of the factors and the rationale used in making that determination. These factors include the role of the timber supply analysis, the land base contributing to timber harvesting, the existing forest inventory, the expected rate of forest growth, regeneration delay, silvicultural treatments, decay and wastage, integrated resource management objectives, harvest flow, community implications, and forest industry facilities. The appendix contains relevant sections of provincial forestry legislation.

Book Cassiar Timber Supply Area

Download or read book Cassiar Timber Supply Area written by Larry Pedersen and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cassiar Timber Supply Area (TSA), located in the northwest corner of British Columbia, is the province's largest TSA at over 13.4 million hectares. Under 3.7 million hectares of the TSA are forested, and there are only about 400,000 hectares that contribute to the timber harvesting land base. After a brief description of the TSA, this report reviews the principles for determining the allowable annual cut for the TSA and presents an accounting of the factors and the rationale used in making that determination. These factors include the role of the base-case timber supply forecast, the land base that contributes to the timber harvest, the existing forest inventory and its expected rate of growth, regeneration delay, silvicultural systems, integrated resource management objectives, decay and waste, and alternative harvest flows. The appendix includes relevant sections of the provincial forestry legislation and a summary of public input to the Cassiar TSA Timber Supply Review.

Book excerpt: September 1979. When thirty-something Peter Rowlands loaded up his Landcruiser and took canoe Dimples to join his friend Hal Marsden on a paddling adventure in northern BC’s backcountry, he never expected one river—Stikine—would radically change the course of his life. Rowlands became so enchanted by this 640-kilometre stretch of wild beauty, he joined the ranks of citizens calling for protection of the Stikine River, its watershed, and its Indigenous communities. Facing layers of bureaucracy and the cavernous pockets of big business, Rowlands found himself tangled in a multi-decade morass, where money always seemed to eclipse mother nature. Written to highlight the importance of heathy ecosystems and stressing the importance of fresh water to global health, Stikine Odyssey exposes questionable relationships between government and industry in hopes of furthering awareness and encouraging improvement. Stikine Odyssey: From Adventure to Activism with The Great River is a story of complexity, evolution, and staggering beauty, much like the river itself. Rowlands is a natural storyteller whose humour and passion are perfectly complemented by Gary Fiegehen’s striking photography. Stikine Odyssey is sure to captivate a vast range of readers beginning with outdoor adventurers, history buffs, and the environmentally conscious everywhere.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this report is to: research and assess the primary factors affecting land use planning for the Cassiar forest district, British Columbia, at the strategic level; provide an overview of planning issues and process concerns; suggest approaches to strategic land use planning for the district; and suggest linkages between long-term plans and short-term operational requirements. The report begins with an overview of the physical, social and economic characteristics of the Cassiar district. It then summarizes planning issues such as previous experience with planning, trust in government, participation, First Nations relations, and information needs. The final sections cover such matters as the essential components of a strategic planning process, broad requirements for initiation of strategic planning, and specific planning approaches by the district's three planning units.
