Book Cashew as an Agroforestry Crop

Download or read book Cashew as an Agroforestry Crop written by Rüdiger Behrens and published by Balogh Scientific Books. This book was released on 1996 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study examines the world market situation for cashew nuts, cashew kernels and cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL). The cashew nut production has diversified since the 1970s: India, Mozambique and Tanzania shared 95% of the world market. In the 1990s Brazil and India are main producers, followed by Mozambique, Vietnam and Indonesia, as important newcomers as well as several other countries. Due to drought, pest and disease incidence in major producing countries the production is highly erratic. Highest production was achieved in 1993 when 150.000 t of kernels were produced. The market could absorb this amount, showing a big elasticity. CNSL is a natural phenol, currently lowly priced compared to technical phenols.

This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now a day’s horticultural commodities getting export from India, among them cashew retain top position. For cashew cultivation certain parameters such as characteristics of cashew, weather condition, geographical location, propagation - layering, budding and grafting, nature of soil are the main to improve and increase the overall productivity of cashew with suitable planning of efficient water management. This book includes organic farming method of cashew. Three main cashew products are traded on the international market - raw nuts, cashew kernels and cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL). A fourth product - the cashew apple is generally processed and consumed locally. This book is not only confined to the different methods of cashew processing but also describe about by-products obtained from cashew. The traditional method of cashew processing through which we get CNSL(Cashew Nut Shell Liquid),the major source of Cardanol. We also came to know about production of CNSL derivatives, polymerization of CNSL, rubber like elasticity products, styrene product of CNSL, multifunctional alcohol obtained from CNSL and lots of other information. Cardanol is a phenolic lipid which is the byproduct of cashew nut processing. It has several uses and applications in chemistry, chemical industries, additives industries and fuel industries for low sulphur diesel fuel. This book contains the purification process of CNSL for isolation of cardanol, evaluation of copperised CNSL and neem oil as wood preservatives. It also provides a wide idea to their readers about its nutritional value, commercial exploitation, hygiene and safety issues, packaging and preservation, uses, manufacturers and suppliers of machinery of this process. This book also engaged in quality control system, design and development of soft nano materials from CNSL cashew to play a vital role in nano technology. It covers all the area concerned in this field and presents a crystal clear overview on the process and its by-product from all possible aspects. Book Tree Based Production Systems for Africa s Drylands

Download or read book Tree Based Production Systems for Africa s Drylands written by Frank Place and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2016-08-24 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tree-based production systems have enormous potential to reduce vulnerability and increase the resilience of households living in dryland regions of Sub-Saharan Africa. Trees are key providers of biomass, which is critical for many livelihood needs. Wood from trees is the leading source of energy in many dryland countries and is an important construction material. Foliage and pods from trees and shrubs are the most important source of feed for camels and goats, which are the dominant livestock species in the more arid parts of the drylands. Trees and shrubs offer enhanced sources of the organic matter needed to improve the structure and raise the fertility of soils used for agriculture. Many parts of trees provide different medicinal products for people. And fruits and vegetable foliage harvested from trees are important seasonal food sources for people living in drylands, and for sale. The benefi ts from trees take on added value when one considers that they are relatively impervious to many of the shocks that affect other production systems, especially livestock keeping and agriculture. Trees, with their deep rooting systems, maintain their standing value and offer some production even in drought years. They are therefore a good buffer against climatic risk and are a critical element in a diversifi cation strategy designed to maintain levels of consumption and income in good times and bad. In addition, their value can be tapped when it is most needed: wood from trees can be harvested throughout the year, and many annual tree products are harvested at times different from the times when annual crops are harvested. Tree-Based Production Systems for Africa’s Drylands identifi es some of the most promising investment opportunities at the level of tree-based systems, species (products), and well-defi ned management practices for accelerating rural economic growth in the drylands.

Book The Lucrative Cashew Farming Business

Download or read book The Lucrative Cashew Farming Business written by Lisa H Gregory Ph D and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2020-12-19 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Commercialization is the process of making a harvest available on the market, from the initial collection, storage and aggregation all the way through the final sale of the product.Cashew production is a very profitable farming business that you should consider if you want to invest in agribusiness. It can rake in passive income with less attention and management cost. Cashew is among the world's most exotic crop at the moment and has a mouth-watering and ready market both on the international and local levels. It has a growing export market because it serves as a raw material like coconut and oil palm for many processing industries in the world.Cashew (Anacardium occidentale), is a perennial tree crop that originates from South America- Brazil. Africa produces 42% of the total world production of raw cashews every year. Of this, it exports 90% to the rest of the world, retaining the rest for domestic produce. The fruit consist of the nut and the apple. Cashew nuts rank number one among the most important nuts in the world. Both the nuts and the apple are major sources of income for the cashew farmer.

Book Assessment of Cashew Production Potentials and ComCashew Contributions for Restoring the Productive Capacity of Degraded Lands and Forests in Sierra Leone

Download or read book Assessment of Cashew Production Potentials and ComCashew Contributions for Restoring the Productive Capacity of Degraded Lands and Forests in Sierra Leone written by Rita Weidinger and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sierra Leone is a post-conflict and post-Ebola country in West Africa. Large scale land degradation caused by unsustainable use of forest resources and mining practices have resulted in low productivity of agricultural lands. With a low requirement of inputs, Cashew is a crop for smallholders and also a tree crop for soil conservation, restauration of degraded lands and climate change mitigation. After having built a basis for the cashew sector in the five African project countries, ComCashew aims now to consolidate its achievements and scale up its interventions to other countries. To get started in Sierra Leone, the project conducted a baseline study in 2017 to assess the potential of cashew cultivation as a crop for restoring the degraded lands and forests. Data from 231 households in 10 districts have been collected to determine the extent to which farmers are involved in cashew production, their production and selling practices and also to understand the knowledge gaps for future intervention strategies. The findings show that 22% of the responded households have been growing cashew for more than 10 years, whiles 75% have been growing it for less than 5 years. Only 9% of the households have had some training on cashew whilst 60% of them have a yield of no more than 100 kg/ha. Planting new degraded lands and depleted forests with improved planting materials, agroforestry, capacity building and access to market are key intervention areas for the project activities. Project interventions will concern a total of 30,000 farmers.

Book Private Sector Response to Market Liberalization

Download or read book Private Sector Response to Market Liberalization written by Steven Jaffee and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1994 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1991, the Tanzanian government has moved to liberalize the market for cashew nuts to reverse a long- term decline in this important traditional export industry. Although the liberalization process has been confusing and nontransparent, and although problems of logistics, finance, and protected vested interests remain, some positive results are evident-- and the future prospects for the recovery of the industry and for the returns to participating farmers and traders are favorable.
