Download or read book The Death of Tarelkin and Other Plays written by Александр Сухово-Кобылин and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 1995 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sukhovo-Kobylin's "Trilogy - Krechinshy's Wedding, The Case"and "The Death of Tarelkin" represent the sole literary legacy of their aristocratic author whose involvement in a sensational murder case became one of the great scandals of mid-19th century Russian society. Out of the drama of his own life, Sukhovo-Kobylin fashioned a trilogy of plays remarkable for the acidity of their satire against the tsarist bureaucracy and police. It is not only for their pungent satire that the plays have continued to attract attention ever since. They are, above all, splendidly theatrical and encompass not one but several different traditions of theatre from the "well-made play" of Scribe to the absurd comedy of Gogol. "As for sheer stagecraft," writes Price D.S. Mirsky in his "A History of Russian Literature," "they have no rivals in Russian literary drama." Harold B. Book excerpt: The legendary lyrics of Johnny Cash are the inspiration for this collection of extraordinarily creative works that provides a new spin on this musical legend. For nearly five decades, Cash captivated audiences with his unique voice and candid portrayal of the gritty life of a working man, and his songs continue to strike a chord with listeners today. But it is the stories behind the music that remain with audiences and provide the inspiration for the work in this thoughtful compilation of fiction and non-fiction from contributors such as Lauren Baratz-Logsted, Don Cusic, Gretchen Moran Laskas, Amanda Nowlin, and Russell Rowland.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Baseball has produced some notably strange plays--like Randy Johnson's fastball dismantling a bird--yet there have been many that defy belief. Beginning with Todd Frazier tricking umpires into calling an out with a rubber ball and culminating in Al "The Mad Hungarian" Hrabosky pitching into a scrum of two batters and a manager at home plate, this book describes the 150 most bizarre plays in the history of the game. Baserunners going in the wrong direction, outfielders kicking the ball, three runners meeting at one base, two balls in play, players ejected for dancing and many other anomalies are presented with detailed commentary.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 10th Annual ASIACRYPT 2004 was held in Jeju Island, Korea, d- ing December 5–9, 2004. This conference was organized by the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR) in cooperation with KIISC (- rean Institute of Information Security and Cryptology) and IRIS (International Research center for Information Security) at ICU (Information and Communi- tionsUniversity),andwas?nanciallysupportedbyMIC(MinistryofInformation and Communication) in Korea. The conference received, from 30 countries, 208 submissions that represent the current state of work in the cryptographic community worldwide, covering all areas of cryptologic research. Each paper, without the authors’ information, was reviewed by at least three members of the program committee, and the papers (co-)authored by members of the program committee were reviewed by at least six members. We also blinded the reviewers’ names among the reviewers until the ?nal decision, by using pseudonyms. The reviews were then followed by deep discussions on the papers, which greatly contributed to the quality of the ?nal selection. In most cases, extensive comments were sent to the authors. Among 208 submissions, the program committee selected 36 papers. Two submissions were merged into a single paper, yielding the total of 35 papers acceptedforpresentationinthetechnicalprogramoftheconference.Manyhi- quality works could not be accepted because of the competitive nature of the conference and the challenging task of selecting a program. These proceedings contain revised versions of the accepted papers. These revisions have not been checked for correctness, and the authors bear full responsibility for the contents of their papers.

Download or read book Money Rules written by Anthony Gierzynski and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The role of money in the US electoral process has become more and more controversial in recent years. Following the Buckley ruling and other legislation in 1996, candidates and political parties are free to raise virtually unlimited soft money, making money perhaps the most significant factor in a campaigns success. In Money Rules , Anthony Gierzynski theorizes that, under our current system of financing elections, our political process has tilted too far in favor of political freedom , at the expense of political equality . Gierzynski examines the historical roots of the campaign finance dilemma, demonstrates its effects on the local, state, and national levels, and projects the long-term outcomes for American politics.
