Book Movement of companies A case study Deutsche Bank

Download or read book Movement of companies A case study Deutsche Bank written by Christian Berger and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2008-11-05 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2008 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: A, Cardiff University, course: International Business Management, language: English, abstract: Nowadays the movement of a company abroad has become a very complex question. A business organization has to understand that the international environment has changed in the past twenty years. Today the global economy operates all around the world. There opened new, interesting markets e.g. China or Russia. The figure of international companies has risen faster as originally expected. Kotler et al (2001) argue many other industries as well as the global financial system have become more difficult to understand. According to Valdez (2000), in 1999 Deutsche Bank was ranked number one of the world’s largest banks by assets with $865bn. Today its ranked number 6, but only number 23 according to profitability. It can be said that Deutsche is an investment Bank which deals with the needs of high net worth individuals e.g. deposits, loans and investment advice. Furthermore it is one of Europe’s most powerful and successful banks. However, in 2003 Deutsche Bank has threatened to move from Germany to the United Kingdom (UK). In 2003 The Sunday Times reported that plans exist to move from Germany either to Switzerland, USA or UK because of Germany’s anti-business culture and the complicated impractical laws. (online) Some of the international experienced managers would support the concept. An added reason given by a manager from Frankfurt (Main) headquarter is the poor performance of German companies which sounds like an excuse to move abroad. Rapid decisions are very difficult just as to be flexible. It seems that Deutsche’s manager wanted to benefit through a relocation to New York or a huge merger with a Swiss bank e.g. Credit Suisse. The BBC (online, 2003) observed one day later that Deutsche Bank has indicated the movement. (online) Although the bank has become globally it is a historically grown company with its origin in Germany.

Book Case Studies in Strategic Management

Download or read book Case Studies in Strategic Management written by Gunther Friedl and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-08 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most business schools use case studies in their courses. However, these are typically based on past cases and assigned to students to solve. This book describes a new approach for teaching with case studies, which was developed and applied successfully at TUM School of Management. In this approach, student teams write and solve their own case study on a topic concerning current and future businesses. A case can thus be on their own startup or a strategic decision of existing companies. During the course, the students receive intensive coaching while selecting and developing the case topic by the course advisors as well as feedback by industry experts and executives for whom the case is actually a burning question. The authors present 17 cases covering strategic questions for startups and technology companies such as Deutsche Post, BMW, Ryanair, Lufthansa, Stadtwerke München, Fielmann, adidas, Siemens, Caribou Biosciences, eon, Airbus, Unicredit and UBS.

Book Business Model Management

Download or read book Business Model Management written by Bernd W. Wirtz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-09-30 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “How are business models purposeful designed and structured? How can the models be implemented professionally and managed successfully and sustainably? In what ways can existing business models be adapted to the constantly changing conditions? In this clearly structured reference work, Bernd W. Wirtz gives an answer to all these issues and provides the reader with helpful guidance. Although, ‘Business Model Management’ is first and foremost a scientific reference book, which comprehensively addresses the theory of business models, with his book Bernd W. Wirtz also turns to practitioners. Not least, the many clearly analyzed case studies of companies in different industries contribute to this practical relevance. My conclusion: ‘Business Model Management’ is an informative and worthwhile read, both for students of business administration as a textbook as well as for experienced strategists and decision makers in the company as a fact-rich, practical compendium.” Matthias Müller, Chief Executive Officer Porsche AG (2010-2015), Chief Executive Officer (2015-2018) Volkswagen AG “In dynamic and complex markets a well thought out business model can be a critical factor for the success of a company. Bernd Wirtz vividly conveys how business models can be employed for strategic competition and success analysis. He structures and explains the major theoretical approaches in the literature and practical solutions in an easy and understandable way. Numerous examples from business practice highlight the importance of business models in the context of strategic management. The book has the potential to become a benchmark on the topic business models in the German-speaking world.” Hermann-Josef Lamberti, Member of the Board Deutsche Bank AG 1999-2012/ Member of the Board of Directors, Airbus Group “The business environment has become increasingly complex. Due to changing conditions, the executive board of a company is confronted with growing challenges and increasing uncertainty. Thus, a holistic understanding of the corporate production and performance systems is becoming more and more important. At this point, Bernd W. Wirtz introduces and presents the concept of the structured discussion of the own business model. Business models present operational service processes in aggregated form. This holistic approach channels the attention of management, supports a sound understanding of relationships and facilitates the adaption of the business to changing conditions. The management of business models is thus an integrated management concept. Through the conceptual presentation of complex issues the author makes a valuable contribution to the current literature. In particular, the referenced case studies from various industries make the book clear and very applicable to practice.” Dr. Lothar Steinebach, Member of the Board, Henkel AG 2007-2012/ Supervisory Board, ThyssenKrupp AG

Book Dark Towers

Download or read book Dark Towers written by David Enrich and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2020-02-18 with total page 475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 WALL STREET JOURNAL BESTSELLER * NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER New York Times finance editor David Enrich's explosive exposé of the most scandalous bank in the world, revealing its shadowy ties to Donald Trump, Putin's Russia, and Nazi Germany “A jaw-dropping financial thriller” —Philadelphia Inquirer On a rainy Sunday in 2014, a senior executive at Deutsche Bank was found hanging in his London apartment. Bill Broeksmit had helped build the 150-year-old financial institution into a global colossus, and his sudden death was a mystery, made more so by the bank’s efforts to deter investigation. Broeksmit, it turned out, was a man who knew too much. In Dark Towers, award-winning journalist David Enrich reveals the truth about Deutsche Bank and its epic path of devastation. Tracing the bank’s history back to its propping up of a default-prone American developer in the 1880s, helping the Nazis build Auschwitz, and wooing Eastern Bloc authoritarians, he shows how in the 1990s, via a succession of hard-charging executives, Deutsche made a fateful decision to pursue Wall Street riches, often at the expense of ethics and the law. Soon, the bank was manipulating markets, violating international sanctions to aid terrorist regimes, scamming investors, defrauding regulators, and laundering money for Russian oligarchs. Ever desperate for an American foothold, Deutsche also started doing business with a self-promoting real estate magnate nearly every other bank in the world deemed too dangerous to touch: Donald Trump. Over the next twenty years, Deutsche executives loaned billions to Trump, the Kushner family, and an array of scandal-tarred clients, including convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Dark Towers is the never-before-told saga of how Deutsche Bank became the global face of financial recklessness and criminality—the corporate equivalent of a weapon of mass destruction. It is also the story of a man who was consumed by fear of what he’d seen at the bank—and his son’s obsessive search for the secrets he kept.

Book excerpt: Effective corporate reporting and disclosure are critical in financial markets to promote vigorous competition, optimal performance, and transparency. This book examines whether existing disclosure frameworks in eight countries with the world's most significant securities exchanges achieve these objectives, and then, drawing on extensive empirical findings, identifies the policies and practices that contribute most to improving the overall quality of listed company reporting and communication. Contending that public disclosure of listed company information is an essential precondition to the long-term efficient operation of financial markets, the book provides analysis of such issues and topics as the following: - arguments for and against mandatory disclosure regimes; - key principles of periodic and continuous disclosure regulation; - tensions between direct and indirect investment in financial markets; - assumptions concerning the need to maintain a privileged role for financial intermediaries; - intermediary, analyst, and research incentives; - protection of individual investors; - selective disclosure; - disclosure of bad news; - the role of accounting standards; - public access to company briefings; - long term performance reporting and analysis; and - company reporting developments. A significant portion of the book provides an overview of disclosure regulation and practice in the United States, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, and Singapore. A highly informative survey looks at company reports, disclosures, and websites of large listed companies, including Microsoft, Citigroup, Teck Resources, Deutsche Bank, BP, Sony, PetroChina Company, BHP Billiton, and Singapore Telecommunications.
