Book Case Studies and Activities in Adult Education and Human Resource Development

Download or read book Case Studies and Activities in Adult Education and Human Resource Development written by Steven W. Schmidt and published by IAP. This book was released on 2010-09-01 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Case studies have become a widely-used instructional tool in many educational environments. The use of case studies began in the 1950s at Harvard Business School. Today, they may be used as part of a course of study, or as the main focus of a course, to which other material is added. While the use of case studies is prevalent in schools of business and medicine, they are not often used in adult education or human resource development. This may be because there are no current major publications that deal with the use of case studies in these disciplines; nor are there any major databases of adult education or human resource development case studies for instructors to use. Good case studies can bring reality into the classroom. They can provide frameworks for discussion based on issues that must be faced in real life. Complex case issues can be broken down and examined for greater understanding, then pulled together again for resolution. Case studies can be used successfully in adult education. I propose a book based on the use of case-based learning in adult education and human resource development (HRD). The book could be positioned as a supplement to course textbooks for courses in adult education and HRD. I would write the cases and develop the exercises, but could also get others to contribute a case study or exercise to the book. Cases would each be a half-page to maybe 2-3 pages at the long end, and would include questions for students/readers. Supplementary information (possibly in the form of a DVD) could be put together for instructors. This information would include case study focal points and examples of possible responses for each study/exercise.

Book Case Studies in Leadership and Adult Development

Download or read book Case Studies in Leadership and Adult Development written by Kristina N. LaVenia and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-19 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book serves as an instructional tool for development of skills related to the organizational leadership of adults. The text offers teaching cases that explicitly partner the leadership and adult development literature bases so readers can work to apply leadership for adult development to real-world scenarios. Case Studies in Leadership and Adult Development: Applying Theoretical Perspectives to Real World Challenges consists of 19 chapters, organized into three parts. Part I includes four chapters drawn from business and industry leaders' experiences encompassing cases from nonprofit, for-profit, and non-governmental agencies. Part II delves into three chapters that focus on the challenges of leading through crisis, including how the Coronavirus pandemic shapes decision making and impacts leadership in both K - 12 and higher education environments. Part III offers a comprehensive view of education through 12 chapters, four of which are drawn from higher education settings. Part III's balance includes cases from elementary, middle, and secondary schools and district-level leadership. Written for graduate level courses in adult education, each case focuses on at least one major theory from both the leadership and adult development domains. Including questions for discussion and reflection, the book allows students to explore the linkages between leadership theories and adult development theories within the context of real-world scenarios.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A postsecondary degree or credential is increasingly important in the U.S. economy, both for new entrants into the labor force and those already employed. Working adults who want to succeed in this economic climate are pursuing a college education in increasing numbers. Adult students have unique needs that differ from traditional-age, residential students. Without good models of effective practice for serving adult learners, colleges and universities will continue to struggle. Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) has addressed this issue through its Adult Learning Focused Institution (ALFI) Initiative, designed to assist colleges and universities with improving learning opportunities for working adults. CAEL developed the ALFI Assessment Toolkit, which is specifically designed for colleges and universities that want to retain undergraduate adult learners by providing programs that meet and exceed student expectations. This brief presents case studies which individually provide institutional background and a discussion of the issues the institution wanted the ALFI Assessment Toolkit to address. The case studies then explore the strategies that institutions used to administer the Institutional Self-Assessment Survey and Adult Learner Inventory. (Contains 2 resources.).

Book Case Studies in Applied Behavior Analysis for Students and Adults with Disabilities

Download or read book Case Studies in Applied Behavior Analysis for Students and Adults with Disabilities written by Keith Storey and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book responds to a critical need for highly qualified personnel who will become exemplary professionals because of their advanced knowledge, skills, and experiences in working with students and adults that have varying disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Since Board Certification for behavior analysts was introduced, there has been an expansion of training programs in Applied Behavior Analysis to meet the demands from school districts, health insurers, and families. In spite of these developments, a case studies book has not been available that uses the Behavior Analyst Certification Board Task List, Fourth Edition (BACB) guidelines for educating individuals receiving their BCBA, or for those in the field such as teachers, and service providers. The goal of this book is to fill that need. Twenty-one case studies are provided--case studies with complete analysis, case studies with partial analysis, and case studies without analysis. The first seven cases present a complete analysis, which allows the reader to analyze and develop a comprehensive Positive Behavior Support Plan containing detailed answers and supporting data systems. The second seven case studies include the areas from the BACB Task List, and the items are most relevant for analysis, but the analysis is not complete. This enables the reader to complete the analysis themselves which will promote skill building. The final seven case studies do not contain an analysis or guideline. This allows the reader to further develop their skills by creating their own guidelines for analysis, and implementing their plan. The use of this text will improve the comprehensive analysis and coverage of the developing supports for individuals with disabilities, provide direct applicability to applied settings, and the ability to use the case studies for assignments and/or exams. The format, readability, and detailed description of instructional methodology makes this text a valued resource for instructors and behavior analysts responsible for improving the skills of people with disabilities.
