Book Case Studies in School Counseling

Download or read book Case Studies in School Counseling written by Larry B. Golden and published by Prentice Hall. This book was released on 2007 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Case Studies in School Counseling brings the work of the school counselor alive both for seasoned practitioners and graduate students. The authors have selected case studies for this book that provide a wide sampling, as well as including developmental cases that address the needs of whole grade levels of students. The organization of the cases provides the reader with a sense of the contributors' environment, the intent of the activity or intervention, and a sequential process for implementing the activity. This book is a valuable resource to school counselors who are seeking to enhance their program expertise with innovative approaches to facilitate student growth and development.

Book Case Studies and Activities in Adult Education and Human Resource Development

Download or read book Case Studies and Activities in Adult Education and Human Resource Development written by Steven W. Schmidt and published by IAP. This book was released on 2010-09-01 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Case studies have become a widely-used instructional tool in many educational environments. The use of case studies began in the 1950s at Harvard Business School. Today, they may be used as part of a course of study, or as the main focus of a course, to which other material is added. While the use of case studies is prevalent in schools of business and medicine, they are not often used in adult education or human resource development. This may be because there are no current major publications that deal with the use of case studies in these disciplines; nor are there any major databases of adult education or human resource development case studies for instructors to use. Good case studies can bring reality into the classroom. They can provide frameworks for discussion based on issues that must be faced in real life. Complex case issues can be broken down and examined for greater understanding, then pulled together again for resolution. Case studies can be used successfully in adult education. I propose a book based on the use of case-based learning in adult education and human resource development (HRD). The book could be positioned as a supplement to course textbooks for courses in adult education and HRD. I would write the cases and develop the exercises, but could also get others to contribute a case study or exercise to the book. Cases would each be a half-page to maybe 2-3 pages at the long end, and would include questions for students/readers. Supplementary information (possibly in the form of a DVD) could be put together for instructors. This information would include case study focal points and examples of possible responses for each study/exercise.

Book Doing Critical and Creative Research in Adult Education

Download or read book Doing Critical and Creative Research in Adult Education written by Bernie Grummell and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2020-05-11 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scholarship on adult education has fueled a high level of methodological creativity and innovation in order to tackle a diverse range of issues in a wide range of settings and locations in a critical and participatory manner. Adult education research is marked by the desire to do research differently and to conduct critical research with rather than about people which requires theoretical and methodological creativity. This entails a particular approach to how we seek to know the world in collaboration with people, to rupture hierarchical relations and to create new collaborative spaces of learning and research that encompass the diversity of people’s life experiences. Doing Critical and Creative Research in Adult Education brings together both leading and emerging scholars in adult education research in order to capture the vitality and complexity of contemporary adult education research. This includes contributions on biographical, narrative, embodied, arts and media-based and ethnographic methods alongside the critical use of quantitative and mixed methods. This distinctive and rich methodological contribution has a general relevance and usefulness for all researchers and students in the social science and humanities, which draws attention to the importance of critical and creative participatory learning processes in human life and learning.

Book Where Do We Go from Here

Download or read book Where Do We Go from Here written by Kevin Lowden and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A three-strand study examined the availability, provision, and effectiveness of educational guidance to adults in Scotland. A literature review, results of a 1988 study, and a commissioned update of that study were used to develop an overview of available educational guidance services. Case studies were conducted of six programs selected as representing a broad range of delivery systems and practices (including regional, employer-based, college, and distance learning guidance services). A user survey was administered to 200 adults identified as having used the case study services. The availability and effectiveness of educational guidance and factors affecting provision of guidance were analyzed. A wide variety of sources of educational guidance were identified, and it was found that users were generally satisfied with the guidance they received. Among the problems identified were the uneven availability of guidance services throughout the country, lack of systematic coordination among providers, and inadequate funding to meet identified guidance needs. (Eleven tables are included. Appended are a list of organizations and agencies contacted and advisory committee members, detailed survey completion data, an outline of activities and principles of quality guidance, a table showing client characteristics identified in the user survey, and a glossary of acronyms. Contains 27 references.) (MN)

  • Author : Richard Edwards
  • Publisher : Routledge

  • Pages : 225 pages

Download or read book Changing Places written by Richard Edwards and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-09-10 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flexibility has become a central concept in much policy and academic debate. Individuals, organizations and societies are all required to become more flexible so that they can participate in the ongoing processes of change involved in lifelong learning. This book explores how the notion of a learning society has developed over recent years: the changes that have given rise to the requirement for flexibility, and the changed discourses and practices that have emerged in the education and training of adults. With the growth in interest in adults as learners, (primarily to support economic competitiveness), the closed field of adult education has now been displaced by a more open discourse of lifelong learning. This involves not only changing practices such as moving towards open and distance-based learning, but also changing workplace identities. Learning settings are therefore changing places in a number of senses: they are places in which people change; they are subject to change; and they are changing to include the home and workplace as well as more formal settings. This book takes an unusually critical standpoint: it challenges contemporary trends, explores the uncertainties and ambivalences of the processes of change, and is suggestive of different forms of engagement with them. It will prove an important text for policy makers, workplace trainers and those working in the field of adult, further and higher education. Richard Edwards is currently a Senior Lecturer in post compulsory education at the Open University.
