This book was released on 2016-11-21 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Decades of research have demonstrated that the parent-child dyad and the environment of the familyâ€"which includes all primary caregiversâ€"are at the foundation of children's well- being and healthy development. From birth, children are learning and rely on parents and the other caregivers in their lives to protect and care for them. The impact of parents may never be greater than during the earliest years of life, when a child's brain is rapidly developing and when nearly all of her or his experiences are created and shaped by parents and the family environment. Parents help children build and refine their knowledge and skills, charting a trajectory for their health and well-being during childhood and beyond. The experience of parenting also impacts parents themselves. For instance, parenting can enrich and give focus to parents' lives; generate stress or calm; and create any number of emotions, including feelings of happiness, sadness, fulfillment, and anger. Parenting of young children today takes place in the context of significant ongoing developments. These include: a rapidly growing body of science on early childhood, increases in funding for programs and services for families, changing demographics of the U.S. population, and greater diversity of family structure. Additionally, parenting is increasingly being shaped by technology and increased access to information about parenting. Parenting Matters identifies parenting knowledge, attitudes, and practices associated with positive developmental outcomes in children ages 0-8; universal/preventive and targeted strategies used in a variety of settings that have been effective with parents of young children and that support the identified knowledge, attitudes, and practices; and barriers to and facilitators for parents' use of practices that lead to healthy child outcomes as well as their participation in effective programs and services. This report makes recommendations directed at an array of stakeholders, for promoting the wide-scale adoption of effective programs and services for parents and on areas that warrant further research to inform policy and practice. It is meant to serve as a roadmap for the future of parenting policy, research, and practice in the United States.

This fourth edition, which focuses on both the social work and nursing professions, offers trainers, instructors, and students detailed information about how case management is delivered, major issues encountered in practice, how services are affected by different populations, and the unique skills that are required by case managers in order to be effective. It is focused on skill learning more than on theory, and discusses not only the importance of case management in the current social work and medical milieu, but also the challenges that case managers face in helping clients. This book was released on 2018-01-28 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by case managers for case managers, this reference manual for nurses and other health professionals presents a CMSA tested approach towards systematically integrating physical and mental health case management principles and assessment tools. Since the health care field has undergone major changes such as the passing of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, Mental Health Parity, Transition of Care & Chronic Care Management and the Medicare Act and CHIP Authorization Act (MACRA), health care workers must competently know how to integrate those new regulations, describe alternative payment options, and implement requirements for greater patient and family assessment, care planning, and care coordination in their practice. CMSA’s Integrated Case Management delves into the role of the case manager and unpacks how case managers assess and treat complex patients. These are patients who may be challenged with medical and behavioral conditions, poor access to care services, as well as chronic illnesses and disabilities, and require multidisciplinary care to regain health and function. With a wealth of information on regulatory requirements, new models of care, integration of services, digital and telemedicine, and new performance measures that are clearly defined for nurses in nursing terminology, chapters outline the steps needed to begin, implement, and use the interventions of the Integrated Case Management approach. All content aligns with the newly revised 2017 Model Care Act, CMSA Standards of Practice 2016 as well as the CMSA Core Curriculum for Case Management Third Edition.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the passage in 1990 of the Americans with Disabilities Act, society has made considerable strides in improving the quality of life and the productivity of individuals with disabilities. At the same time, however, the American health care system has undergone considerable change, with some unforeseen consequences for those with disabilities. Birenbaum analyzes all of the disability and health policy issues that have emerged from our reliance upon managed care. First, he examines how disability has been defined and redefined in social science and in government regulations. Then, he discusses the major changes in health care over the last decade—in particular, the financial and organizational principles behind managed care. After reviewing the structural advantages and disadvantages of managed care for people with disabilities, he concludes with observations on the future of health care for people with disabilities, particularly in the context of the quality of life and the possible functional outcomes following medical interventions.

In an opening statement, Chairwoman Schroeder discussed issues of children's mental health and suggested that the committee study: (1) the effectiveness of community-based care in a model service system in California; (2) the importance of having service systems in place prior to a crisis; (3) creative funding strategies; and (4) the impact of inappropriate services on families. A fact sheet discusses the prevalence of childhood mental health problems; youth homelessness; lack of mental health care for children; inappropriate institutionalization; inadequate research in childhood mental health; inadequate insurance; and limited federal support. Statements from other committee members were included in the record. Seven other individuals presented statements. These statements included descriptions of the attempts of the State of Virginia to restructure its services and funding to better meet the needs of troubled youths and families; a demonstration community-based services project at Fort Bragg, North Carolina; and the California model system of care, a system expanded from the earlier Ventura model.
