Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered what God thinks about when He whispers your name...ever longed to read the Carvings In His Hand...to hear the conversations of Heaven? If so, now is your chance to experience some of His most intimate thoughts and longings for your heart and life in such a way you can almost feel His breath as He speaks your name. According to Psalm 40:5, God's thoughts toward you are too numerous to be counted and He has had a lot of time to think about you since according to 2 Timothy 1:9 you were called in Christ before the worlds began. He loved you before you ever were...before you were even a twinkle in your daddy's eye and desired to share His heart with you causing your whole life to be a journey of intimacy and communion. So, come away on a revelatory journey...a life changing journey into the chambers of the Father's heart to experience the intimate communion you have always longed for or desired to deepen in real and satisfying ways. Come away to a place where the Whispers of His Heart are waiting for you. You won't be disappointed. Carvings In His Palm is a beautiful, interactive devotional of inspirational love letters and thoughts straight from the heart of God to your heart...a revelatory journey into the very chambers of the Father's heart where He whispers your name...where He invites you into a place of intimate communion found only in His Presence! He is near...whispering "YOUR" name! Won't you come? "Brenda's heart of love and devotion to the Lord echo through the pages of this beautifully written devotional. This journal takes us on a journey into the heart of the Beloved and awakens our deepest desires. Brenda's writing invites us to come to the banquet table to taste and see that the Lord is good." -Linda Marceau, Pastor, Riverside Community Church

Book excerpt: Hand-In-Hand: Ceramics, Tapestries, Wood Carvings, and Hardware by the California Mid-Century Designers Evelyn & Jerome Ackerman is the first monograph of the artists whose oeuvre was critically influential and is now seen as the epitome of California mid-century modernism. With a preface by Jonathan Adler, the book tracks the couple's careers in the decorative arts from their beginnings to the creation of Jenev Design Studio and its eventual shift to ERA Industries, as well as their involvement in every prestigious California Design exhibition from 1954 to 1976. Additionally, after almost 30 years of work they continued to create and develop their styles. The Ackermans became known for their uses of a wide spectrum of mediums including weaving, ceramics, wood carvings, and mosaics. The Ackermans' individualistic and innovative techniques also ensured that great design be both accessible and affordable. Featuring many never-before-seen preparatory drawings and color guides, this book tells the heartening story of a successful collaboration and celebrated partnership, in not only design, but in life.

Book Carving Devotion in the Jain Caves at Ellora

Download or read book Carving Devotion in the Jain Caves at Ellora written by Lisa Owen and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2012-04-03 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on art historical, epigraphical, and textual evidence, this book is the first full-scale reconstruction of medieval Jain artistic and devotional practices at the rock-cut site of Ellora in Maharashtra, India. Created during the ninth and tenth centuries, Ellora's Jain caves are among the best-preserved examples of medieval Jain art in India. While this book briefly addresses traditional art historical issues of date and iconography, it primarily considers the articulation of sacred space within the caves and the role of imagery in shaping devotional practices. Building upon scholarship that examines Jainism within its larger South Asian context, this book also explores connections between the Jain monuments and their Hindu and Buddhist counterparts to reveal a lived religious world at Ellora.

Book excerpt: "Every person's life is God's work of art, an expression of God's creative love, His goodness, His compassion."There are several reasons why I wanted to put my life story into print. During the years when I worked in St. John Parish in Hoisington, Kansas, I had some leisure time which I devoted to writing my life story. I had the use of a word processor and began to record the memories of a lifetime.I had always been interested in the history of the Russian German immigrants who settled in Ellis County, because I came from that line of settlers. My great grandparents and my paternal grandfather were born in Graf, Russia. My maternal grandfather, grandmother, and Mama were also born in Russia. I wrote my story because I want my generation and those following me to gratefully remember that we are the descendants of brave immigrants. Sister Suzanne Noffke, OP, suggests that doing history is in fact "sacramental remembrance." She believes and I agree that the stories from the past can "form and transform us now, to shape our present into the future." She calls writing history a sacred ministry. I have included in my life story many facts from my personal history but also my spiritual journey through the years. I firmly believe that any relationship with God has to be authentic, and I have tried to show that my aim has always been to develop an intimate relationship with God. Especially in writing my spiritual journey, I have taken a risk in showing my readers a tiny glimpse of how I see my good God.

It is viewed as "God's word," an infallible moral guidebook, and a timeless provider of hope and comfort. But is there really any truth to these views? Is the Bible really worthy of all this fanfare? This book will reveal the ugly truth that the Bible is not at all what its fans think it to be. In fact, it is the very antithesis thereof. And this book will prove all of this by using the bible itself as its own refuter.
