Book The Journey In

Download or read book The Journey In written by Rahim Rashid and published by Rahim Rashid. This book was released on 2024-03-26 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever felt like the whole world is trying to tell you what to do, say, think, and feel? If so, you're ready to take The Journey In. Visionary author Rahim Rashid breaks down the constraints that we have allowed to shackle us into an existence where independent thought, empathy, and simple, good behaviour have been replaced by the constant need for distraction, self-promotion, and anything else we can use to fill the void of fear that threatens us just below the surface of our day-to-day existence. In an objective journey through major religions, Rashid shines the harsh light of truth on our fractured definition of reality, and extolls the drive to reject the carnal identity in favour of becoming selfless, aspiring to perform acts for the benefit of all humanity. It's time to cast aside the shell of a person that society has tried to define you as, and begin...The Journey In.

Book A Concise History of the Church

Download or read book A Concise History of the Church written by Alfred E. Knight and published by Irving Risch. This book was released on 2015-03-25 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Author's chief desire in giving to the Public this short History, has been to meet what he believes to be a real want among general readers; not to make a student's book, for we have already many able works of this kind, but a popular handbook, such as might be read with profit by those who have no time or inclination for a more exhaustive study. In short, he has endeavoured to gather together, in a single volume, all that is interesting and essential, and to so write his history that the mind of the reader may not be wearied even while the dullest facts are passing before it. These are high aims, and only those who have attempted a similar task can understand the difficulties by which the Author has been surrounded. An outline knowledge of Church History is not only useful to the class of readers referred to, butnecessary to all who would tread firmly in the present day, when rationalism on the one hand, and superstition on the other, are luring the unwary into by-paths of worldliness and unrest. In the open page of history we may see the infidelity of the one, and the idolatry of the other; and, admonished by the miserable consequences of each, may be prepared against their insidious approaches in the future. We have not yet seen the end of mystic Babylon, or the beast that carries her. The Author has been sparing of quotations, save from such writers as were contemporaneous with the events described; but he has not scrupled to avail himself of the thoughts of others, when they have commended themselves to his judgment, because of their peculiar fitness and importance. He would cover this liberty by the reflection, that truth is the property of all seekers. The authors to whom he is chiefly indebted, and whose works he has had in constant reference, are: — Eusebius, Socrates, Sozomen, Theodoret, and St. Augustine, among old writers; Waddington, James White, Haweis, Timpson, Barth, and Andrew Miller, for complete epitomes; Cave, Milman, Milner, and Edward Burton, for histories of the early church; and for the period of the Middle Ages, Fleury, Hallam, Monastier, Dr. Gilly, Dr. Muston (Hazlitt's translation), Keightley, and Jane Willyams; as well as the author of a valuable little work, "The Church in the Middle Ages." For the period of the Reformation, Fox, the Martyrologist, Burnet, Robertson, McCrie, Scott, D'Aubigne, Ludwig Hausser, Ranke, Green, etc.; and the works of the English reformers published by the Parker Society. Southey (for his "Book of the Church"), and the French historians Sismondi and Michela, have also been frequently consulted, together with the authors of sundry biographies, outline histories, etc., whose names it is needless to enumerate. From this it will be seen that the Author makes no pretensions to originality, in the strict sense of the word, although he would claim for his book that it is more than a mere compilation. It is, in fact, the result of the earnest labour of several months; and while he has gone much to other books, it has been with the purpose of reference and not of plunder. Others have laboured, and he has entered into their labours. In conclusion, he would commend these fruits of his labour to the blessing of God, without which they can only prove a failure but, crowned with this, they may succeed beyond his hopes, and in spite of every defect. October, 1888.

Book The Mary Daly Reader

Download or read book The Mary Daly Reader written by Mary Daly and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2017-01-24 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Makes key excerpts from Daly's work accessible to readers who are seeking to access the essence of her thought in a single volume. Outrageous, humorous, inflammatory, Amazonian, intellectual, provocative, controversial, and a discoverer of Feminist word-magic, Mary Daly’s influence on Second Wave feminism was enormous. She burst through constraints to articulate new ways of being female and alive. This comprehensive reader offers a vital introduction to the core of Daly’s work and the complexities secreted away in the pages of her books. Her major theories—Bio-philia, Be-ing as Verb, and the life force within words—and major controversies—relating to race, transgender identity, and separatism—are all covered, and the editors have provided introductions to each selection for context. The text has been crafted to be accessible to a broad readership, without diluting Daly’s witty but complicated vocabulary. Begun in collaboration with Daly while she was still alive, and completed after her death in 2010, the chapters in this book will surprise even those who thought they knew her work. They contain highlights from Mary Daly’s published works over a forty-year span, including her major books Beyond God the Father, Gyn/Ecology, and Pure Lust, as well as smaller articles and excerpts, with additional contributions from Robin Morgan and Mary E. Hunt. Perfect for those seeking an introduction to this path-breaking feminist thinker, The Mary Daly Reader makes key excerpts from her work accessible to new readers as well as those already familiar with her work who are seeking to access the essence of her thought in a single volume.

Book excerpt: ..".a true bad boy hero if ever one was written." - Fanatical Paranormal Romantical New York Times Bestseller, Victoria Danann, brings us a spin off from Order of the Black Swan that's been called "captivating and emotional." The angel, Kellareal, stopped the genocide of a hundred and forty three human/animal hybrids, who'd been genetically engineered as a research experiment and spent their entire lives imprisoned. Against orders, he spirited them away to another of the many-layered dimensions bound to Earth and gave them the job of protecting humans whose own hybrid experiment had escaped and become their nightmare. Rosie Storm thought she was getting a few weeks of tantrum-fueled asylum. The last thing she was expecting was to be the accidental architect of a war. Or to meet someone like Carnal.

Book The Origins and Role of Same Sex Relations in Human Societies

Download or read book The Origins and Role of Same Sex Relations in Human Societies written by James Neill and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2011-10-03 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This groundbreaking work draws on a vast range of research into human sexuality to demonstrate that homosexuality is not a phenomenon limited to a small minority of society, but is an aspect of a complex sexual harmony that the human race inherited from its animal ancestors. Through a survey of the patterns of sexual expression found among animals and among societies around the world, and an examination of the functional role homosexual behavior has played among animal species and human societies alike, the author arrives at some provocative conclusions: that a homosexual or bisexual phase is a normal part of sexual development, that same-sex relations play an important balancing role in regulating human reproduction, that many societies have institutionalized homosexual traditions in the past, and that the harsh condemnation of homosexuality in Western society is a relatively recent phenomenon, unique among world societies throughout history. This well researched and meticulously documented book is the first that integrates into a coherent picture the startling revelations about human sexuality coming from the recent work of sexual researchers, psychologists, anthropologists and historians. The view that emerges, of an ambisexual human species whose complex sexual harmony is being thwarted by the imposition of an artificial understanding of nature, represents a new way of thinking about sex.
