Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over fifty million caregivers spend every spare minute driving to medical appointments, stopping at the pharmacy, cooking, answering questions, paying bills, and helping with matters that used to be private. They feel trapped in an endless loop and need to release the stress of caregiving. B. Lynn Goodwins new book, You Want Me to Do What? Journaling for Caregivers allows users to process their stress and celebrate what is right. It gives readers open-ended instructions on spilling their guts in the safety of a private journal and offers two hundred sentence starts to help them begin writing. Caring for oneself is as essential as breathing, but caregivers lose sight of that fact. Think of the flight attendant who says, Put on your own oxygen mask before helping those around you. Journaling is a caregivers oxygen mask, which You Want Me to Do What? provides.

Book Invisible Caregivers

Download or read book Invisible Caregivers written by Daphne Joslin and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2002-02-28 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An understudied aspect of the HIV/AIDS epidemic is the creation of hundreds of thousands of grandparent-headed households that have become home to children bereft of one or both of their parents. Such "skip-generation parenting" presents a host of challenges to the families involved and the social programs designed to assist them. Despite this unprecedented caregiving responsibility, older surrogate parents remain relatively invisible, hidden in the shadows of HIV care and the demands of raising a child. The primary goal of Invisible Caregivers is to generate, support, and guide program and policy initiatives designed to meet the needs of elder surrogates and their families. Most social service programs are not able to identify the needs of older surrogates, often because these surrogate parents in HIV-infected families are reluctant to make their needs known for fear of social stigma or possible reductions of benefits. Multiple systemic barriers to case management and other services also frustrate attempts to bring available resources to elder caregivers. These barriers include professional ignorance or denial that HIV affects surrogates, eligibility restrictions through CARE, limited funding and age restriction on OAA, and a fragmented health and human service system. Because the issues facing elder caregivers are many and varied, this collection covers a host of issues: community health, aging, HIV services, child welfare, education, public policy, and mental health.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In a heartbeat, I now had a new full-time job... as Dale's caregiver." What do you do when suddenly, in one devastating moment, you're a patient advocate - nurse - decision maker 24/7? You begin to glean and gather in the midst of all the caregiving. Personal stories. Research. Successes. Failures. Truth. This journal recounts a caregiver's journey with a husband who suffered multiple strokes, lost his ability to talk, and fought his way back to living life fully in his highly individual-and ultimately wonderful, "new normal" way. Only those in the 24/7 caregiving role truly understand the depth and weightiness of this responsibility - facing the great unknown of physical, mental and emotional trauma. For all those extraordinary individuals who find themselves thrust into this seemingly nonstop caregiving...and for their families, Donna tells her story. Highly personal, she offers insights to be gleaned from the pages of her public and private writings - the good, the bad, and even the ugly. Through the Fire will encourage caregivers not merely to survive but to thrive in walking their own ever-changing path as they meet the often overwhelming needs of the care-needing person that they love.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2009, my wife of over fifty-eight years was diagnosed with dementia with Alzheimers symptoms. My caregiving responsibilities began before that time and continued until her death in January 2018. She was provided care in her own home. As time went by, the caregiver duties became more and more demanding. It was truly twenty-four hours each day and seven days each week. My sweetheart was referred to the hospice program as a patient beginning in 2013 with a life expectancy of six months or less. At the time of her passing, she had been a hospice patient for four years, eleven months, and five days. The Diary of a Caregiver begins with her entry into the hospice program and continues until her death. Caregiving can be very frustrating at times as one never knows what to expect or when to expect it. The Diary of a Caregiver identifies many of the problems and frustrations associated with care of a dementia patient. It also identifies different techniques and solutions to some of those problems. It should be of interest to anyone who is involved in caregiving, especially those who are just beginning.

Book Self Care for Caregivers A 60 Day Accountability Journal

Download or read book Self Care for Caregivers A 60 Day Accountability Journal written by Jennifer Sermabeikian and published by . This book was released on 2021-04-05 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who are caregivers? This book is intended not just for the typical caregivers we think of but for a whole realm of people who care for others. A caregiver can be many things, such as a teacher, nurse, doctor, pharmacist, therapist, practitioner, coach, trainer, an individual who provides regular direct care for a family member or a friend, someone who works in a care facility, and or a parent caring for their child and not making time for themselves. A caregiver may also be a person that cares for those with health conditions such as Parkinson's disease, Autism, Developmental disabilities, Alzheimer's disease, Traumatic brain injury, Dementia, Spinal cord injuries, Mental health issues, Dissociative identity disorder, Psychiatric disorders, and More. Why a self-care journal for caregivers? For caregivers to successfully help those under their care, they need to provide themselves with self-care. If they are not taking care of their physical, emotional, and mental health, they will not be as equipped to serve others. This journal will provide caregivers with the needed channel to document their own self-care journey and provide inspiration and internal peace. Using this journal for 60 days will give caregivers accountability to themselves. We know that when we repeat actions for a prolonged period of time, consistently, it becomes a routine. Self-care is a routine that is non-negotiable, and this journal will set the tone for the present and future healthy you. Give yourself grace. You don't have to do it all, be it all & or know it all. You don't have to compare yourself to others or live up to anyone else's expectations. What's more important is to take each moment with breath, intention & presence. You will be bringing out your highest and best self when you slow down and realize that life is beautiful even if you don't do it all or have all the answers. You will be a better and healthier you when you give yourself grace.
