Book excerpt: With about 10–20% of the adult population in Europe being tattooed, there is a strong demand for publications discussing the various issues related to tattooed skin and health. Until now, only a few scientific studies on tattooing have been published. This book discusses different aspects of the various medical risks associated with tattoos, such as allergic reactions from red tattoos, papulo-nodular reactions from black tattoos as well as technical and psycho-social complications, in addition to bacterial and viral infections. Further sections are dedicated to the composition of tattoo inks, and a case is made for the urgent introduction of national and international regulations. Distinguished authors, all specialists in their particular fields, have contributed to this publication which provides a comprehensive view of the health implications associated with tattooing. The book covers a broad range of topics that will be of interest to clinicians and nursing staff, toxicologists and regulators as well as laser surgeons who often face the challenge of having to remove tattoos, professional tattooists and producers of tattoo ink.

He simply passed out, stopped breathing, and died. Faster and deadlier than Zika, the new strain is delivered through a simple mosquito bite. How do you avoid mosquitos in Florida? And why does the antidote already exist when no one can even name the disease that’s spreading faster than anyone can keep up with? How do you avoid the bite you can’t see coming? Once you’re bitten, you have one hour… The Swarm is the fourth book in the fast-paced Black Carbon apocalyptic thriller series by USA Today bestselling author A.J. Scudiere. The Black Carbon series is a must-read for fans of resourceful heroes and impossible odds.

Book Hyperboreal

    Book Details:
  • Author : Joan Naviyuk Kane
  • Publisher : University of Pittsburgh Press
  • Release : 2013-10-21
  • ISBN : 0822979144
  • Pages : 72 pages

Download or read book Hyperboreal written by Joan Naviyuk Kane and published by University of Pittsburgh Press. This book was released on 2013-10-21 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the 2012 Donald Hall Prize in Poetry Selected by Arthur Sze Hyperboreal originates from diasporas. It attempts to make sense of change and to prepare for cultural, climate, and political turns that are sure to continue. The poems originate from the hope that our lives may be enriched by the expression of and reflection on the cultural strengths inherent to indigenous culture. It concerns King Island, the ancestral home of the author's family until the federal government's Bureau of Indian Affairs forcibly and permanently relocated its residents. The poems work towards the assembly of an identity, both collective and singular, that is capable of looking forward from the recollection and impact of an entire community's relocation to distant and arbitrary urban centers. Through language, Hyperboreal grants forum to issues of displacement, lack of access to traditional lands and resources and loss of family that King Island people—and all Inuit—are contending with.

Book PVC Technology

Download or read book PVC Technology written by M.V. Titow and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1984-09-30 with total page 1266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book continues the tradition of the first two editions of the late W. S. Penn's original PVC Technology, and the extensively revised third (1971) edition prepared by myself and B. J. Lanham. In the present edition the original general format, and the arrange ment of chapters, have been largely preserved, but virtually nothing now remains of Penn's own text: a part of the contents is based on material from the 1971 TitowlLanham version (revised, updated and mainly rewritten): the rest is new, including, inter alia, several chapters specially contributed by experts from the plastics industry in the UK and Europe. The section listing international (ISO) and national (BS, ASTM and DIN) standards relevant to PVC, which was first intro duced (as Appendix 1) in the 1971 edition, proved a popularfeature: it has now been brought up to date and considerably extended. Two further appendices provide, respectively, comprehensive unit conver sion"tables (with additional information on some ofthe mostfrequently encountered units, and the SI units), and a list of many properties of interest in PVC materials, with definitions, typical numerical values, and references~to relevant standard test methods. For various reasons, work on this edition involved more than the usual quota of problems: I am truly grateful to the Publisher's Manag ing Editor, Mr G. B. Olley, for his understanding, patience, unfailing courtesy and friendly encouragement.
