Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stricken with a lifelong obsession for offshore fishing, Jeff Nichols had been running part-time charters out of Montauk Harbor, once dubbed "the sport fishing capital of the world," for ten years with mediocre results. Most of the time, he just brought friends out and considered a trip successful if the customers didn't stiff him, walk off with his rods and reels, or puke all over him. He bought cheap, remarkably unsafe boats, and so as to not piss off the other charter boat captains, named his operation Second Choice Charters. Then he started a Groupon campaign to boost his modest, if not pathetic, business. The Groupon campaign worked amazingly well, and Jeff quickly became one of the busiest captains in Montauk, sailing twice a day all week long. But unbeknownst to his customers, he was ill-prepared and grossly underqualified for the job despite being a USCG-licensed captain, not to mention that his boats were filthy and not exactly seaworthy. The results were horrific. In the notoriously dangerous waters off Montauk Point, Jeff's escapades resulted in seven Mayday calls and six documented Coast Guard rescues at sea (one including a helicopter). Even though his adventures are sometimes comical, he quickly realizes they are also cautionary tales. Not everyone should be a captain, and the "6 pack captain's license" in the wrong hands can be a license to kill. Jeff Nichols's first book, Trainwreck: My Life as an Idoit, was made into a movie by Lions Gate Films under the title, American Loser, and his second book, Caught, is an eye-opening account of the black market striped bass industry. Jeff has written over the years for Penthouse, the New York Post, Easthampton Star, and Dans Papers. He now runs the Montauk marine septic boat and monitors Channel 73.

Book Certain Jeopardy

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jeff Struecker
  • Publisher : B&H Publishing Group
  • Release : 2009-05-01
  • ISBN : 0805464530
  • Pages : 184 pages

Download or read book Certain Jeopardy written by Jeff Struecker and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2009-05-01 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Six American men live behind a protective façade, their real work hidden from neighbors and friends. Different in countless ways, they are intimately the same in one: at any moment their lives can be altered with a phone call, and their actions may change the world. They are Special Ops. And one team’s mission is about to hit certain jeopardy status when the discovery of an Al Qaeda base in Venezuela becomes secondary to thwarting the transport of a nuclear weapons expert from that training camp to Iran. Informed by the true combat experience of Captain Jeff Struecker and finessed by award-winning novelist Alton Gansky, Certain Jeopardy is an immersing and pulsating fictional account of what really happens at every level of a stealth engagement: the physical enemy encounter, the spiritual war fought within a soldier, and the emotional battles in families back at home. Endorsements: Certain Jeopardy by Jeff Struecker and Alton Gansky is like the TV show The Unit on steroids! A group of six men appear to live normal American lives, but at any time they can be called to report to a Special Operations group performing actions for the safety of their country at the risk of their lives. The men are called to Venezuela to investigate rumors of a Al-Qaeda training camp. Instead they stumble into the kidnapping of a nuclear scientist who can empower Iran to create their own nuclear weapons. To rescue him and his family that is being held hostage for his cooperation will force them to use every skill they know and may cost them their lives. I'm not usually a fan of military thrillers, but this book grabbed me on page one and didn't let go until I finally remembered to breathe again at the end. Struecker has served several tours of duty himself, so the writing gives an inside look at secret military operations and the incredible amount of skill and fortitude needed by its members. The action is written so that every scene is almost cinematic; I could see it play out in my head. Interspersed are scenes of the families at home coping with never knowing where their loved ones are or if they will come home. Together they create a powerful look at Army life. I hope that the authors will revisit this team, because I would love to read more! --Christy's book blog

His cool actions not only averted tragedy but made him a hero and an inspiration worldwide. Book Touched By Grace

Download or read book Touched By Grace written by Gary Lucas and published by Jawbone Press. This book was released on 2013-09-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Suddenly, this skinny, longhaired kid who had been lounging against the wall inside sprang forward to confront me, rolling and popping his eyes, intensely vibing me with his own personal voodoo. He looked electric, on fire--as if he was about to jump out of his own skin. He was the very image of the young Tim Buckley--same sensual, red-lipped mouth, same sensitive, haunted, blazing eyes. He was a beautiful boy: so charismatic, so handsome, his chiseled face both angelic and demonic. This was obviously Jeff Buckley." Touched By Grace is a revealing account of the time Gary spent working with Jeff Buckley during Jeff's early days in New York City. It describes their magical first performance together at the Greetings From Tim Buckley concert in 1991, the creation of their landmark songs 'Grace' and 'Mojo Pin,' their plan to take on the world together in Gary's band Gods and Monsters--and then the moment when Jeff pulled the plug, opting instead to pursue a solo deal with Columbia Records, the very label that had recently cut short its contract with the original incarnation Gods and Monsters. In this fascinating and revelatory book, Gary writes with heartfelt honesty about the highs and lows of this unique creative collaboration, providing an eye-opening insight into a world of music, passion, betrayal, and more.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “In part one, we left the Wizard standing at his office window on the second floor of his castle. He had been defeated in battle by Azorka’s heroes. Now he was glad that his hybrid flying abominations, dim witted and useless to him, had vacated their pens. He would refill them with more powerful and intelligent creatures. Keeping this in mind, he toasted to his success with a large glass of optimism. At the same time, a jubilant Mitch, Heather, Sally, Zen and Lana were sailing back to Azorka celebrating the rescue of Heather and the capture of the Dragon Queen. Even the immortal Dragon Queen would admit that in their world wonders never cease. Wonders never cease in Immortal. There will be more disclosure of the Zapatsaurs. An introduction to visitors from outside of our solar system and powerful changes and abilities for Heather, Lana and Sally! The Wizard meets two new allies dedicated to helping him win in this exciting new episode! The unique literary voice I wish to offer to my readers is that of an individual who craves peace at all levels, in our world. Whether that be a peaceful walk at night or the peaceful negotiations of countries experiencing change. If we could all strive for this change, make it our priority, then I believe we will (magically) come into possession of higher technology. And there could be “others” outside of the aquarium that are wishing this would come true soon. The buildup of missiles can be redirected outside the aquarium for those unwanted meteorites of the future. Presently, we as peaceful individuals, should follow environmentalists by caring for the planet and being mindful of climate change.

Download or read book Against the Current written by Brian L. MacLearn and published by First Edition Design Pub.. This book was released on 2014-05-02 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The premise: You take two boys who meet at age 12 and then show their relationship 25 years later. One has his promise taken from him by the controlling influence of first, the bully, and later, the grand manipulator. What begins as a story of constant abuse and the struggle to break free, turns into a psychological suspense thriller, as not all is what it seems. The victim is in some ways as calculating as the bully, and willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of others. The power hungry manipulator will stop at nothing to keep his power, and to keep his golden ticket from rising up against him. One moment of bravery becomes the catalyst that ignites the war of attrition. With the help of a kindred spirit, the victim realizes that to break free from the tyranny of oppression, the bully has to be thoroughly stopped. A chess match of deathly proportions ensues within a thirty-six hour period that leaves several people dead and the two men facing each other in a classic battle of, "to the death." Against the Current answers the question of what happens if the bully is still in your life after twenty-five years and you've been pushed hard enough to fight back. The characters are rich and believable, true to themselves. The setting is a mid-sized Iowa town. Evil comes in many forms and wears many faces. Against the Current explores the evil behind the need to manipulate others, and the inner strength of goodness that compels some of us to stand up to that evil.
