Et laisser alors la parole à son ami Breton : "plus encore que le choix que Paul Eluard impose à tous et qui est celui, merveilleux, des mots qu'il assemble, dans l'ordre où il les assemble - choix qui s'exerce d'ailleurs à travers lui et non, à proprement parler, qu'il exerce - je m'en voudrais, moi, son ami, de ne pas louer seulement et sans mesure en lui les vastes, les singuliers, les brusques, les profonds, les splendides, les déchirants mouvements du coeur."
