Book Industrial Overcapacity And Duplicate Construction In China Reasons And Solutions

Download or read book Industrial Overcapacity And Duplicate Construction In China Reasons And Solutions written by Li Ping and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2019-05-03 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 2012, industrial overcapacity has become an increasingly serious problem in China, against the backdrop of domestic economic slowdown and continued downturn in international markets. Overcapacity is widespread in the traditional manufacturing sector, particularly in iron and steel, cement, electrolytic aluminium, flat glass, and ship-building industries. It is also grave in emerging industries such as polysilicon, solar cells, and wind power equipment. This book provides an overview on the overcapacity problem facing China and examines the main characteristics of overcapacity in some important industries. The book identifies two types of overcapacity: one is excess capacity that results from natural supply-demand dynamics or cyclical economic fluctuations under a relatively sound market system; the other is overcapacity caused by the overinvestment of enterprises under a flawed economic system. It probes into how overcapacity is caused and finds two contributors — change of growth model and institutional flaws. It explores to establish a long-term mechanism for solving the problem. The book concludes that China should establish a long-term mechanism to prevent and resolve overcapacity, and to establish healthy relationship between the market and the government.

Book Creating Industrial Capacity

Download or read book Creating Industrial Capacity written by Jonathan Michie and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1996 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are the economic prospects for Britain and the other major world economies over the coming years? Creating sustained economic growth and tackling unemployment remain centre-stage in economic policy debate across the globe - and look set to remain there for the foreseeable future. Thisbook represents a major new contribution to the analysis of these issues, and to the debate on appropriate policy options.A key obstacle to the restoration of full employment is the erosion of industrial capacity to the point where it is no longer adequate for employing the available workforce, even if the necessary demand for the output is there. rebuilding that capacity is essential if demand is to be allowed toincrease sufficiently to bring levels of unemployment significantly below those prevailing in recent years. Decisions on capacity rest on demand prospects, while demand management is inhibited by fears that capacity shortages will lead to renewed inflation. The particular problems, and the differing contexts for policy action, in Britain, the European Union, the US and Japan are all analysed in separate chapters. In addition to a close scrutiny of the evidence and arguments about capacity problems, the book looks more widely to issues of business systems, City-industry relations, and the role of international business and governance systems in shaping economic and industrial policy. The book is divided into four main sections: Demand, Capacity, and Employment; Industrial Problems and Policies; International Lessons and Policy; Directions for Policy. This book will inform economic policy debates on both sides of the Atlantic. It will be useful reading for students of macro- and industrial economics, and for all those interested in the business or economic environment.

Book Capacity Utilization in Indian Industry

Download or read book Capacity Utilization in Indian Industry written by S. Chandrasekhar and published by Daya Books. This book was released on 1990 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indian Industry has registered phenomenal growth in several spheres during the recent decades, but the scope for much greater performance was restricted by certain considerations such as input shortages, lack of suitable industrial planning, presence of global competition through the multinationals, supply constraints and demand distortions and to a large extent, due to the pervasive phenomenon of capacity underutilization. But for this key factor, the performance profile and the growth rate of Industry could have been even more substantial and greater. This phenomenon itself is attributed to such factors as inadequate planning, undesirable expansions in the production capacities, foreign exchange constraints, energy shortages and lack of modernization matched by appropriate technology transfers, apart from causes specific to industrial regions and industries, including infrastructure bottlenecks. This study critically deals with an overview of industrial policies and performance of medium and major industry in the Indian economy in general through the planning decades and analyses the nature of capacity utilization of a specific region in recent years, so as to suggest measures for improvement. Contents Chapter 1: Measurement of Capacity Utilization; Chapter 2: Capacity Utilization in Indian Industries under Economic Planning; Chapter 3: Industrial Profile of Andhra Pradesh; Chapter 4: Capacity Utilization in Andhra Pradesh; Chapter 5: Industrial Sickness; Chapter 6: Policy Conclusions and Outlook for Future.

Book Input Shortages in Mixed Economies

Download or read book Input Shortages in Mixed Economies written by Ms.Ratna Sahay and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 1991-06-01 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Widespread shortages in key inputs are common in mixed economies of developing countries. These shortages appear to occur at the same time that relatively high rates of capacity underutilization in manufacturing industries are observed. This paper develops a simple model which explains the existence of excess capacity when there are quantitative restrictions on key inputs. This model is tested using data for manufacturing industries in India, and the results indicate that shortages in domestic rather than imported inputs imposed binding constraints on capacity utilization rates.
