Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Capability-Based Computer Systems focuses on computer programs and their capabilities. The text first elaborates capability- and object-based system concepts, including capability-based systems, object-based approach, and summary. The book then describes early descriptor architectures and explains the Burroughs B5000, Rice University Computer, and Basic Language Machine. The text also focuses on early capability architectures. Dennis and Van Horn's Supervisor; CAL-TSS System; MIT PDP-1 Timesharing System; and Chicago Magic Number Machine are discussed. The book then describes Plessey System 250, Cambridge CAP Computer, and Hydra System. The selection also discusses STAROS System and IBM System/38. STAROS object support and abstract type management, as well as IBM System/38 profiles and authority and programs/procedures, are described. The book highlights Intel iAPX 432, and then considers segment and objects, program execution, storage resources, and abstraction support. Problems related with capability-based architectures are also noted. The text is a good source for readers wanting to study computer programming.

Download or read book Persistent Object Systems written by John Rosenberg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Persistent object systems are systems which support the creation and manipulation of objects in a uniform manner, regardless of how long they persist. This is in direct contrast with conventional systems where temporary objects are created and manipulated using one mechanism (typically programming language data structures) and permanent objects are maintained using a different mechanism (usually a filestore). The unification of temporary and permanent objects yields systems which are smaller and more efficient than conventional systems and which provide a powerful and flexible platform for the development of large, data intensive applications. This volume presents the proceedings of a workshop at which latest research in this area was discussed. The papers are grouped into sections on the following topics: type systems and persistence, persistent programming languages, implementing persistence, object stores, measurement of persistent systems, transactions and persistence, and persistent machines.
Download or read book CAIP 2021 written by Philipp Wicke and published by European Alliance for Innovation. This book was released on 2021-12-13 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed proceedings of the 1st International Conference on AI for People: Towards Sustainable AI, CAIP'21, held Virtually, on November 20-24, 2021. This event, organized by the non-profit association 'AI for People', aims to provide a platform for people to present, learn and discuss the use of Artificial Intelligence for the societal good, addressing its benefits as well as its risks. In this year's edition, we focus on Sustainable AI as a movement to foster change towards greater ecological integrity and social justice in the entire life cycle of AI systems. The 11 full papers and 1 short paper presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 27 submissions. The presentations covered multiple research fields like Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Social Science, and Philosophy brought the discussion on how to shape Artificial Intelligence technology around human and societal needs. In order to foster this idea, this conference hoped to narrow the gap between civil society and technical experts.
Download or read book Heterogeneous Computing Architectures written by Olivier Terzo and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-09-10 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heterogeneous Computing Architectures: Challenges and Vision provides an updated vision of the state-of-the-art of heterogeneous computing systems, covering all the aspects related to their design: from the architecture and programming models to hardware/software integration and orchestration to real-time and security requirements. The transitions from multicore processors, GPU computing, and Cloud computing are not separate trends, but aspects of a single trend-mainstream; computers from desktop to smartphones are being permanently transformed into heterogeneous supercomputer clusters. The reader will get an organic perspective of modern heterogeneous systems and their future evolution.
Download or read book SOA Source Book written by The Open Group and published by Van Haren. This book was released on 2020-06-11 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Software services are established as a programming concept, but their impact on the overall architecture of enterprise IT and business operations is not well-understood. This has led to problems in deploying SOA, and some disillusionment. The SOA Source Book adds to this a collection of reference material for SOA. It is an invaluable resource for enterprise architects working with SOA.The SOA Source Book will help enterprise architects to use SOA effectively. It explains: What SOA is How to evaluate SOA features in business terms How to model SOA How to use The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF ) for SOA SOA governance This book explains how TOGAF can help to make an Enterprise Architecture. Enterprise Architecture is an approach that can help management to understand this growing complexity.

Download or read book Operating Systems written by Pranabananda Chakraborty and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-11-22 with total page 641 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text demystifies the subject of operating systems by using a simple step-by-step approach, from fundamentals to modern concepts of traditional uniprocessor operating systems, in addition to advanced operating systems on various multiple-processor platforms and also real-time operating systems (RTOSs). While giving insight into the generic operating systems of today, its primary objective is to integrate concepts, techniques, and case studies into cohesive chapters that provide a reasonable balance between theoretical design issues and practical implementation details. It addresses most of the issues that need to be resolved in the design and development of continuously evolving, rich, diversified modern operating systems and describes successful implementation approaches in the form of abstract models and algorithms. This book is primarily intended for use in undergraduate courses in any discipline and also for a substantial portion of postgraduate courses that include the subject of operating systems. It can also be used for self-study. Key Features • Exhaustive discussions on traditional uniprocessor-based generic operating systems with figures, tables, and also real-life implementations of Windows, UNIX, Linux, and to some extent Sun Solaris. • Separate chapter on security and protection: a grand challenge in the domain of today’s operating systems, describing many different issues, including implementation in modern operating systems like UNIX, Linux, and Windows. • Separate chapter on advanced operating systems detailing major design issues and salient features of multiple-processor-based operating systems, including distributed operating systems. Cluster architecture; a low-cost base substitute for true distributed systems is explained including its classification, merits, and drawbacks. • Separate chapter on real-time operating systems containing fundamental topics, useful concepts, and major issues, as well as a few different types of real-life implementations. • Online Support Material is provided to negotiate acute page constraint which is exclusively a part and parcel of the text delivered in this book containing the chapter-wise/topic-wise detail explanation with representative figures of many important areas for the completeness of the narratives.
