The hypothesis of this study proposes that the creedal language of the early church creeds and specifically the early forms of the Apostles' Creed had such prevalence in the life of the early church that it influenced the scribes who recorded the New Testament texts from that period forward. The hypothesis does not propose that the theology of the New Testament was primarily shaped by creedal influence upon the text, but rather that the influence of the early church creeds caused variants in the text through scribal changes, with many of those changes being harmonistic corruptions and conflated readings. Finally, this study does not seek to ascertain the original text of the New Testament, but rather it seeks to show the effect of creedal language on New Testament textual transmission.

This trajectory is now exhausted theologically and spiritually. Hence, the door is opened for a recovery of the full canonical heritage of the early church and for fresh work on the epistemology of theology.
