Book Canberra South Bowling Club Records

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inaugural meeting to form a third bowling club in Canberra was held at the Hockey Pavilion, Manuka on 20 July 1948, followed on 18 October by the first General Meeting of the Canberra South Bowling Club. A permanent clubhouse was opened in May 1959. The Club was incorporated in 1955. Membership was exclusively male until the establishment of the Canberra South Women’s Bowling Club in 1981. In 1997 the Canberra South Bowling Club ceased to exist when members approved new constitutions for Canberra South Bowling & Recreation Club and its constituent men’s and women’s clubs. In August 2004 the existing constitution of the Canberra South Men’s Bowling Club Inc was replaced with a new constitution in the name of Canberra South Bowling Club, which amalgamated the men’s and women’s clubs with equal rights for all members. Early in 1998 ACT Rugby Union Ltd proposed a joint agreement that would enable it to build its headquarters and a gymnasium for its Super 12 players on the Bowling Club’s site and to become a partner in the operation of the clubhouse. This agreement allowed Canberra Royals Rugby Union Club, trading as Brumbies Sports and Social Club, to lease the Bowling Club premises. Royals went into administration in December 2003 and the lease and management of the Bowling Club premises was subsequently reassigned to Eastern Suburbs Rugby and Amateur Sports Club Inc (Easts). In 2008 Canberra South transferred the lease on its premises in Griffith to ACT Brumbies Rugby Union and began using West Deakin Hellenic Bowling Club as its base of operations, pending amalgamation with West Deakin Hellenic. The increased activity in the years 1996-1998 is reflected in the arrangement of parts of the collection.

Book excerpt: Discover the unique challenges confronting the club industry As a distinctive sector of the hospitality industry, private clubs have their own unique set of challenges. Club Management Issues in Australia and North America provides a one-of-a-kind exploration of the membership, human resource, and other key management issues of the niche industry of private clubs—on two very different continents. This book closely examines the latest research to provide scholars and practitioners with a clear picture of the economic and social implications springing from the growth of the diverse private club industry while offering cogent discussions on effective management strategies. The impact of economic downturns affects all sectors of the hospitality market, including the private club industry. Club Management Issues in Australia and North America illustrates the trends now seen in the club industry in two major world markets. The book examines the declining membership issues in the United States and presents thoughtful consideration of member recruitment strategies. Australia’s marked differences in private clubs are comprehensively explained, with a clear focus on the gaming aspect present there. An overview of the history of the club industry in Australia is presented, with emphasis on gaming machine operations and the positive and negative social and economic impact gambling has on the country. A thematic review of club management issues from years past gives readers a clearer understanding of where the industry is today and what areas need more empirical research. Employment relations are discussed in detail. A comparative analysis is also presented of the various challenges faced by clubs competing with one another. Legislative restrictions of advertising and marketing are explored, along with crucial membership and patronage issues. The book provides: research on changes in memberships in clubs in the United States a study on declining waiting lists at clubs characteristics club managers look for in job applicants differences in equity and non-equity membership structures an overview of the history of machine gambling in New South Wales analyses of past issues of taxation legislation, employment relations, social issues, innovation, and others—and the need for further empirical study how regulatory changes impact wage determination the effects of legislation restrictions on gaming advertising, promotion, and external signage analysis of the impact of clubs’ involvement with special events consumer behavior in the club industry a case study of a club’s failed attempt to tap into the youth market Club Management Issues in Australia and North America is timely, informative reading for hospitality educators and students, hospitality professionals, and hospitality companies doing research in the private club industry.

Book A History of Australian Co operatives 1827 2023

Download or read book A History of Australian Co operatives 1827 2023 written by Greg Patmore and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-02-13 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Co-operatives provide a different approach to organising business through their ideals of member ownership and democratic practice. Every co-operative member has an equal vote regardless of his or her own personal capital investment. They take a variety of different forms, including consumer co-operatives, agricultural co-operatives, worker co-operatives and financial co-operatives. Patmore, Balnave and Marjanovic provide a perspective on Australian co-operative development within a conceptual framework and international context since the 1820s by exploring the economic, political and social factors that explain their varying fortunes. Drawing upon the Visual Historical Atlas of Australian Co-operatives, a significant database of Australian co-operatives and a variety of historical sources, this book provides a detailed historical analysis of their development, from their inception in Australia to today. Australian co-operatives were heavily dependent on state sympathy for their growth and vulnerable to ideas that challenged collective organisation such as Neo-liberalism. Despite these challenges, the co-operative business model has persisted and since 2009, there has been resurgence of interest and organisation that may provide a platform for future growth. A useful resource for practitioners, students, educators, policy makers and researchers that highlights a significant alternative business model to the Investor-Owned Business and state enterprise.
