Book The Future of Precision Medicine in Australia

Download or read book The Future of Precision Medicine in Australia written by Robert C. Williamson and published by . This book was released on 2018-01-31 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Future of Precision Medicine in Australia explores the current trends in precision medicine technologies and the role that broader implementation of precision medicine capabilities may play in the Australian context.Recent technological advances allow the determination of a wide range of data about an individual's genetic and biochemical make-up, as formed by their genes, environment and lifestyle. These advances can and do affect the clinical management of a person's health and disease. The ability to analyse disease in terms of an individual's make-up, when compared with and studied alongside aggregated clinical and laboratory data from healthy and diseased populations, is termed 'precision' or 'personalised' medicine. Although medicine has always had personal and predictive aspects, precision medicine allows health and disease to be viewed at an increasingly fine-grained resolution, attuned to the complexities of both the biology of each individual and variation within the population.

Book Northern Territory Dictionary of Biography

Download or read book Northern Territory Dictionary of Biography written by D. Carment and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 655 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This revised edition of the Northern Territory Dictionary of Biography brings together the entries from the original three volumes, published in 1990, 1992 and 1996. The Dictionary spans the period from the early British and French explorers of the Northern Territory coast to the mid 1990s and aims to provide a broad reflection of life in the Territory rather than focusing on eminent public figures. In some cases this has meant that some subjects are included about whom relatively little is known. Authors come from the widest possible cross-section of the community and there is a considerable range of writing styles. The principal interest of the volume is the Northern Territory. In all cases, the Territory experience of subjects, however eminent they might have been elsewhere, is thus the focal point of entries. This volume is available on CD (ISBN 9780980384697) and in this limited paperback edition.

Download or read book Australia written by Douglas Pike and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1970-01-02 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1998 second edition of this valuable study of the growth of the Australian nation. Professor Pike's main theme is the sober hard-won progress of isolated colonies struggling to increase their population and pay their way. He tells of uneven advance, of success and failure, of windfall wealth. Most of all he tells of efforts of men to make themselves secure in a land starved of capital and private investment. This edition includes developments since 1958. Pike surveys important political events in South East Asia since the mid-1950s, in particular, Australia's involvement in the defence of Malaysia and in Vietnam. The invasion of Australia's open spaces by men and machines in search of minerals was perhaps the most exciting development of the 1960s. The success of these excavations and of the remarkable urban and industrial growth and expansion of Australian agricultural production in the 1970s and 1980s are also explored.

Book The Evolution of the Law and Politics of Water

Download or read book The Evolution of the Law and Politics of Water written by Joseph W. Dellapenna and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-10-19 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to a famous Talmudic story (Babylonian Talmud, Tractate Shabbat: 31a), a gentile once approached Rabbi Hillel and asked to be taught the entire Torah while standing on one foot. Hillel replied, ‘Love your neighbour as yourself. That is the entire Torah. The rest is simply an explanation. Go and learn it!’ In much the same way, Jewish law can be described in one word—Torah. All the rest is simply an explanation. The Torah, also known as the Bible, the five books of Moses, and the Pentateuch, was written over 3,000 years ago. Since then, Jewish law has developed various interpretations and applications of the Torah, interpretations of those interpre- tions, and so on. Jewish law contains civil dictates as well as religious protocol. Problems that arose in the framework of religious life and problems surrounding civil relationships both found solutions in the same legal source—the Torah and the Halacha, the Jewish legal interpretations and rulings. This chapter on water law in the Jewish tradition provides insight into Jewish law and custom in general, and rules related to the protection of water sources in particular. One should not look, however, to find a written code of Jewish law, as there is none.

Book Australia s Boldest Experiment

Download or read book Australia s Boldest Experiment written by Stuart Macintyre and published by NewSouth. This book was released on 2015-06-01 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this landmark book, Stuart Macintyre explains how a country traumatised by World War I, hammered by the Depression and overstretched by World War II became a prosperous, successful and growing society by the 1950s. An extraordinary group of individuals, notably John Curtin, Ben Chifley, Nugget Coombs, John Dedman and Robert Menzies, re-made the country, planning its reconstruction against a background of wartime sacrifice and austerity. The other part of this triumphant story shows Australia on the world stage, seeking to fashion a new world order that would bring peace and prosperity. This book shows the 1940s to be a pivotal decade in Australia. At the height of his powers, Macintyre reminds us that key components of the society we take for granted – work, welfare, health, education, immigration, housing – are not the result of military endeavour but policy, planning, politics and popular resolve.
