This book was released on 1988 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Until the mid-1970s, the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists produced virtually all of Canada's guidelines and standards for hazardous substances. Since then, a process of Canadianization has been going on, with an ongoing critical evaluation of standard setting processes carried out across Canada. This report discusses the question of how the Centre can facilitate the process, while simultaneously helping to ensure that all Canadians enjoy a healthy and safe working environment. The report begins with an historical overview of standard setting in Canada, then continues with the Centre's mandate for standard setting, definitions of standards, the potential implications of standard setting for the Centre and its constituents, and ends with a review of international standard setting processes, including the United States, the United Nations, Norway, and Sweden.

Download or read book Endowed written by Michael Thomson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-08-21 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Feminist legal scholars and health care lawyers have long engaged with law’s responses to the female reproductive body, especially on what the legal regulation of women’s reproductive lives can tell us about the broader relationship between law and gender. Acknowledging this work and building upon it, Endowed considers the interaction of law and ideas of male reproductivity. In particular, it seeks to uncover what these regulatory moments can tell us about contemporary ideas and ideals of masculinity and the male sexed body. Spanning topics such as male circumcision and the regulation of state access to Viagra, the book uncovers recurring motifs that define masculinity and the male body in the legal imagination. In looking to these understandings the book engages with broader questions regarding the relationship between law and gender and between masculinity and social organization.

Book Strategies for Social Regulations

Download or read book Strategies for Social Regulations written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The typical regulatory approach to social problems is to promulgate legal standards that are enforced by inspectors who detect violations and attempt to bring about compliance. This report explores the limitations of conventional regulation and reviews alternative regulatory strategies, such as economic incentives and standards for organizational structure, that might be used to supplement it. The discussion is set in the context of occupational health and safety. Chapters of the report cover the goals of occupational health and safety regulation, the uses and limitations of conventional regulation, a review of the uses and limits of two types of incentives that could be used in the occupational health and safety arena (exposure fees and experience rating of workers' compensation assessments), organizational structure, the role of labor-management health and safety committees, and the role of two key members of management responsible for health and safety.
