Book Unfolding Stakeholder Thinking 2

Download or read book Unfolding Stakeholder Thinking 2 written by Jörg Andriof and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-08 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the companion to "Unfolding Stakeholder Thinking: Theory, Responsibility and Engagement", which examined many emerging theoretical and normative issues and was released to acclaim in October 2002. "Unfolding Stakeholder Thinking 2" collects a series of essays by leading researchers worldwide to focus on the practice of stakeholder engagement in terms of relationship management, communication, reporting and performance. As stakeholder relationships and business in society have become increasingly central to the unfolding of stakeholder thinking, important new topics have begun to take centre stage in both the worlds of practice and academia. The first part of the book makes clear that simply engaging with stakeholders is insufficient to build successful stakeholder strategies. Companies, considered as the focal entity in a relationship, also need to actively communicate with stakeholders and manage their relationships. Dialogue is essential but can only be useful if companies listen to the messages that stakeholders are sending them. It is also essential to understand the role of power and influence in stakeholder engagement strategies especially if partnerships or collaborations emerge from the relationships that are engendered. The book examines a wide range of corporate–NGO collaborations to determine what makes them effective – and what makes them fail. Conflict management in stakeholder alliances is also discussed. The second part of the book addresses the critically important element of emerging schemes for the assessment, measurement and reporting of business in society and relationships involving stakeholders. A variety of current approaches to stakeholder assessment and reporting are discussed here including social auditing and sustainability reporting. The evolution of stakeholder thinking has led to a new view of the firm as an organism embedded in a complex web of relationships with other organisms. The role of management becomes immensely more challenging, when stakeholders are no longer seen as simply the objects of managerial action but rather as subjects with their own objectives and purposes. This book captures the complexity of managing relationships with stakeholders and will provide both practitioners and researchers with a wealth of information on the benefits and consequences of this practice.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In its first edition, Global Trends in Mediation was the first book to concentrate on mediation from a comparative perspective - reaching beyond the all-too-familiar Anglo-American view - and as such has enjoyed wide practical use among alternative dispute resolution (ADR) practitioners worldwide. This new edition has not only been updated throughout; it has also added two new jurisdictions (France and Quebec) and a very useful comparative table summarising the salient points from each of the fourteen jurisdictional chapters. Each jurisdictional chapter addresses critical structural and process issues in alternative dispute resolution such as the institutionalisation of mediation, mediation case law and legislation, the range and nature of disputes where mediation is utilised, court-related mediation, mediation practice standards, education, training and accreditation of mediators, the role of lawyers in mediation, online dispute resolution and future trends. All the contributors are senior dispute resolution academics or practitioners with vast knowledge and experience of dispute resolution developments in their countries and abroad.

Book Planning Ethics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Sue Hendler
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2018-04-17
  • ISBN : 1351308424
  • Pages : 556 pages

Download or read book Planning Ethics written by Sue Hendler and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-04-17 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past fifty years professional understanding of planning has changed markedly. In the past, planning was primarily described as a technical activity involving data collection, analysis, and synthesis of physical plans and supporting policies. Now planning is seen as a much broader set of human activities, encompassing the physical world and also the realm of public and social services. Not surprisingly, planners' discussions of ethics have evolved. Professional ethics is regarded by many planners to be limited to a set of rules of behavior regarding interactions with the public, sources of data, government officials, and one another. This shift is symbolized by the evolution of the labels by which ethics is known: from a circumscribed view of professional ethics to a broader concept of ethics in planning; both of which are discussed in this book. Sue Hendler argues that planners recognize that every act of planning pursues certain human values and is a series of statements about what we take to be right or wrong and what we take to represent the highest priorities of the society.Planning Ethics explores planning within alternative moral theories, including liberalism, communitarianism, environmentalism, and feminism. The contributors illustrate the application of these ethical principles in specific planning contexts encompassing community development, land conversion, waste management, electric power planning, and education planning. This is the next generation of thinking on ethics and planning. It will be a centerpiece of every planning curriculum.

Book International Environmental Policy

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this newly revised and expanded edition of the award-winning International Environmental Policy, Lynton Keith Caldwell updates his comprehensive survey of the global international movement for protection of the environment. With implications for multinational commerce, population policy, agriculture, energy issues, biological and cultural diversity, transnational equity, ideology, and education, this book takes a broad view of the policy outcomes of what may be the most important social movement of the 20th century, and addresses the events and politics that have significantly affected the movement over the last twenty years and will continue to affect it into the next century.
