Book Canadian Economic Forecasting

Download or read book Canadian Economic Forecasting written by Mervin A. Daub and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 1987 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forecasting is an important part of the desire to influence our destiny in an uncertain future. While there are many faces to the forecasting Eve, perhaps the most important in the present age involves prediction about economic matters relating to the larger community. Mervin Daub argues that careful consideration of aggregate economic forecasting, in this case with particular reference to Canada, enables us to better understand the role which prediction plays in human affairs.

Book Forecasting Risks to the Canadian Economic Outlook at a Daily Frequency

Download or read book Forecasting Risks to the Canadian Economic Outlook at a Daily Frequency written by Chinara Azizova and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In this paper, we estimate the distribution of future inflation and growth in real gross domestic product (GDP) for the Canadian economy at a daily frequency. To do this, we model the conditional moments (mean, variance, skewness and kurtosis) of inflation and GDP growth as moving averages of economic and financial conditions. Then, we translate the conditional moments into conditional distributions using a flexible parametric distribution known as the skewed generalized error distribution. We show that the probabilities of inflation and GDP growth derived from the conditional distributions accurately reflect realized outcomes during the sample period from 2002 to 2022. Our methodology offers daily frequency forecasts with flexible forecasting horizons. This is highly useful in an environment of elevated uncertainty surrounding the inflation and growth outlook"--Abstract, page ii.

Book The TRACE Econometric Model of the Canadian Economy

Download or read book The TRACE Econometric Model of the Canadian Economy written by Nanda K. Choudhry and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 1972-12-15 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The TRACE (Toronto annual Canadian econometric) model is an annual, non-linear econometric model of the Canadian economy designed primarily to forecast the statistics which appear in the principal tables of the Canadian National Income and Expenditure Accounts. TRACE is the first Canadian econometric model from which a published ex ante forecast has been made. In this book the authors describe the model and a high-speed computer. They show how the effects of alternative combinations of federal government policies can be examined by producing sets of conditional forecasts from the model. Both impact and long-run multiplier effects of changes in fiscal and monetary policy are derived from simulation experiments performed with the model. The results show the different effects that are obtained under régimes of fixed and floating foreign exchange rates. The book presents the economic theory underlying the model and provides information on estimates of the structural parameters of the Canadian economy. It will be of interest to those engaged in economic forecasting and policy analysis, as well as those studying macro-economic theory and econometric methods.

Book Canadian Economic Forecast

Download or read book Canadian Economic Forecast written by and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After hitting growth rates in the range of roughly 2.5% to 3.5% annualized in the last half of 2016 and Q1 2017, the second quarter of the year blew the doors off with an above-expectations outturn of 4.5%. [...] This is the strongest quarterly advance in real GDP since Q3 2011, when the global economy rebounded from the trade disruptions that resulted from the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. [...] This can almost entirely be chalked up to the introduction of regulatory measures by the Province of Ontario to cool the housing market in and around the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), which seem to have had their intended effect. [...] The US value for 2017Q3 is the average of nowcasts from the Federal Reserve Banks of Atlanta and New York as of Sept. [...] In contrast, the growth of the U. S. economy is expected to pull ahead in 2018, hitting 2.4%, and will remain ahead of Canada for the rest of the 5-year forecast.

Book Macroeconomic Forecasting

Download or read book Macroeconomic Forecasting written by Greg Tkacz and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-30 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The literature on economic forecasting has made great strides in the past ten to fifteen years. For example, new real-time databases have led to the development of new tools that can account for revisions to past data; dynamic stochastic general equilibrium models are increasingly being used to forecast; and diffusion indexes allow forecasters to incorporate the information in hundreds of series when producing forecasts. However, from a practical perspective, such innovations have not trickled-down into the toolboxes of most professional economists. When confronted with a practical forecasting problem, many of these tend to rely on simple approaches that they know and understand, such as vector autoregressions (VARs). Many existing forecasting texts are typically either beyond the scope of practitioners who simply wish to learn some of the latest tools or issues or are written at too introductory a level. In light of the above, this textbook aims to bridge the gap between the specialized forecasting literature and the ultimate producers of forecasts.
