Book Preventing Non response in the Canadian Community Health Survey

Download or read book Preventing Non response in the Canadian Community Health Survey written by Yves Béland and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper discusses in detail issues dealing with the technical aspects of designing and conducting surveys. It is intended for an audience of survey methodologists. To fill statistical gaps in the areas of health determinants, health status and use of the health system by the Canadian population at the health region level, Statistics Canada established a new survey, the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS). The CCHS consists of two separate components: a regional survey in the first year and a provincial survey in the second year. The main purpose of the regional survey, for which collection took place between September 2000 and October 2001, was to produce cross-sectional estimates for 136 health regions in Canada based on a sample of more than 134,000 respondents. This article focuses on the various measures taken at the time of data collection to ensure a high level of quality for this large-scale survey.

Book Evaluating the Design Effect at Different Steps of the Weighting Process in the Canadian Community Health Survey

Download or read book Evaluating the Design Effect at Different Steps of the Weighting Process in the Canadian Community Health Survey written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) is a cross-sectional survey that collects general health information on the Canadian population at the Health Region (HR) level. The survey will be redesigned in 2015. One component of the redesign is the improvement of the efficiency of the sample design. The CCHS uses a complex survey design which includes multiple frames and multiple stages of selection within each of those frames. Weights resulting from the design are adjusted through several steps such as frame integration, nonresponse and calibration. The combination of these complexities leads to the production of estimates with relatively high variances when compared to what would be obtained through a simple random sample. Design effects are examined in this paper to quantify how the overall variability in estimates can be attributed to the complex survey design and to each of the individual adjustments in the weighting process. The findings will help guide possible modifications for the upcoming redesign.

Book Income Imputation for the Canadian Community Health Survey

Download or read book Income Imputation for the Canadian Community Health Survey written by Chi Wai Yeung and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) is a cross-sectional survey that collects health information on the Canadian population. Total households income is asked during the interview because of its potential association with health variables. Evidence suggests that there is a potential for nonresponse bias for total household income. Imputation is required to reduce this bias and preserve the income distribution so proper analysis between income and health variables can be done. This paper begins by exploring potential sources for income imputation before describing the final approach in detail. Simulation results are presented and show that the imputation strategy worked well at ensuring that imputed values are often within the same quintile as what would have been reported. Simulations of the resulting estimates show that analyses that include imputed income values are different from analyses based on only income respondents, which suggests a possible nonresponse bias reduction.
