Illustrations have been omitted from this book, as it is more efi'ective for students and teacher to secure this material for themselves. Thus, in a discussion on telegrams, a pad of telegraph blanks can be easily secured for illustrative purposes. Simi larly, postal guides, annual reports, financial state ments, civic manuals, booklets, folders, catalogues, copies of statutes, etc., may all be had for the asking. Book Commercial Correspondence

Download or read book Commercial Correspondence written by Ralph Starr Butler and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Commercial Correspondence: Prepared in the Extension Division of the University of Wisconsin This course in Commercial Correspondence was developed in the University Extension Division for the purpose of giving applied instruction to those engaged in the actual conduct of business. The original notes were brought together for this purpose and to the instruction based upon these notes and their elaboration there was at once such a ready response and such a large demand that the present volume has naturally grown out of half a dozen years of experience in postal and class teaching, on the one hand, and the suggestive contributions of the business experience of many students, on the other. The course was originally outlined and developed by Mr. Ralph Starr Butler, assisted by some of his colleagues. The work was finally revised for publication with the cooperation of Mr. Henry A. Burd, who also prepared the appendices, A and B. While this text was primarily prepared for adults, and for correspondence-study instruction, it has also been found entirely suitable for the instruction of youths pursuing courses in business or commerce with the purpose of entering commercial careers. This course has two main purposes: 1. To teach the rules of grammar and rhetoric with particular reference to their application to business English. 2. To teach the best usage regarding the forms of business correspondence, to consider the essential qualities of all effective business letters, and to discuss in detail each of the more important classes of commercial communications. The chief endeavor is to carry out the purposes included in the second group, but the first is by no means neglected. Book Commercial Correspondence Classic Reprint

Download or read book Commercial Correspondence Classic Reprint written by Albert G. Belding and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-22 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Commercial Correspondence The methods of the business man in the management of his affairs, and the methods of the teacher in conducting classes composed of those who are in pursuit of a commercial education, are not and can not be the same. They are, however, closely related, for the theory and practice of modern business supply the material upon which the attention of teacher and student alike is concentrated. As business practice changes and advances, the end to be sought in teaching must also change and advance. The teaching should be made more and more a specific preparation for the conditions existing in the commercial world, and no effort can rightly be spared that will tend to make this preparation thoroughly comprehensive and, at the same time, give it the greatest possible semblance of reality. The student should be called upon to meet actual problems in the way in which they must be met in actual business, and he should be made to feel that this is exactly what he is doing when he undertakes the exercises in a text-book on correspondence: these exercises should seem to him pertinent and vital. With this end in view, the forms and exercises in this book have been taken from actual correspondence and from real conditions often encountered in a great variety of business pursuits. And it is especially with this end in view that the narrative of consecutive incidents connected with the correspondence of a single business enterprise has been given in Chapter XIV. The exercises based upon these incidents gain significance and definiteness from correlated transactions and from the policy involved in the conduct of the business as a whole. Book A First Course of Commercial Correspondence and Office Routine Classic Reprint

Download or read book A First Course of Commercial Correspondence and Office Routine Classic Reprint written by John King Grebby and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-07 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A First Course of Commercial Correspondence and Office Routine Technical and Learned Expressions - The constant use of such words without cause is a peculiarly repellent form of fine writing. But where the nature of the subject compels the use of them, there is a difficulty. A way out is to use them as seldom as possible, taking care when using them to make the connecting and descriptive words studiedly simple, so that the reader may con centrate his attention upon the more difficult words. If this simple rule had been followed by most of those who have written our standard philosophical and scientific treatises, these works would be more widely read and better understood by the general public. Obsolete Words - Words that have passed out of current use are not appropriate to any kind of composition, except, of course, dialogue which attempts to reproduce the speech of former days. The following are examples: methinks, meseems, beholden, in sooth, hight, yclept, whilom, erst. Foreign Words and Phrases - With some exceptions the use of foreign words and phrases is to be condemned. The mother tongue is varied and vivid enough to express all we want to say. Some foreign words and phrases, as e. G. Per se, vice versa, bona fide, pro rata, regime, have been found useful, and can now be considered as English words, but others such as, au revoir, conge, pater, beem ideal, in medias res, non probandi, are too often used now-a-days by people who have little French and less Latin. It is stupid to suppose that the continual use of such expressions is the sign-manual of a superior education. They have become much too hackneyed to warrant any such conclusion. Book Commercial Letters Classic Reprint

Download or read book Commercial Letters Classic Reprint written by John Baker Opdycke and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Commercial Letters The business letter permits no wanderings into the eddies of personal idiosyncracy, however permissible and engaging such little jaunts may be in friendly letters. The business letter is a busy ness letter, be it remembered, and as such it must be plain and pointed at the same time that it is courteous and comprehensive. If it can contain by inference the radiance of a personality, the elusive lure of engagingness, the note of distinction that imbues the missives of Lady Mary herself, why, well and good. But these qualities must be found between the lines; they may not be played up and featured as they are in friendly letters. Book Modern Commercial Correspondence Classic Reprint

Download or read book Modern Commercial Correspondence Classic Reprint written by John King Grebby and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-07 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Modern Commercial Correspondence IN my present capacity as Examiner in Handwriting and Commercial Correspondence to the Society of Arts some thousands of papers worked by candidates have passed through my hands. The considerable experience thus gained has enabled me, in this book, to indicate the chief difficulties confronting the student who is striving to acquire a good style of Commercial Letter-writing, to show how such difficulties may be overcome, and further, to impart a knowledge of Commercial Terms and Business Practice. I believe that what I have written will be of service not only to those who enter for the various commercial examinations, such as those held by the Society of Arts, the London Chamber of Commerce, the National Union Of Teachers, the Lancashire and Cheshire Union of Institutes, the Midland Counties Union of Educational Institutions, the West Riding of Yorkshire County Council, etc., but also to all who are already engaged in mercantile Offices. With the exception of a few general letters, those contained in this book are edited copies, with disguised names and addresses, of letters actually received and sent out by business houses in different parts of the world. Unlike, therefore, a majority of the letters which appear in most text-books on Commercial Correspondence known to me, they may confidently be accepted as representative of present-day business practice. I take this opportunity of tendering my thanks to the many friends who have kindly helped in the difficult task of collection. Book Pitman s Commercial Correspondence in French Correspondance Commerciale Classic Reprint

Download or read book Pitman s Commercial Correspondence in French Correspondance Commerciale Classic Reprint written by Isaac Pitman and Sons and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-20 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Pitman's Commercial Correspondence in French, (Correspondance Commerciale) In offering this practical guide to Business Correspondence to students at commercial schools, as well as to the numerous clerks, merchants, and business men who have of late ears di3played so laudable a zea for technical instruction in general, and the study of languages in particular, we make no pretence of innovation or of filling a space that has hitherto remained void. We know that there are certain excellent manuals of anglo-french correspondence. But although most of these books were written in Eng land to supply the requirements of the English public, we have been struck with the difficulties they offer to an English student who has not had an education in France. Letters written in French appear to him to be bristling with difficulties. This results from the fact that in these works the practice has nearly always been to take letters composed by French writers for the French part, and by English writers for the English part. Book Applied Business Correspondence Classic Reprint

Download or read book Applied Business Correspondence Classic Reprint written by Herbert Watson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-31 with total page 614 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Applied Business Correspondence That knack is what makes some collection letters force you to realize the importance or the necessity or the good grace of sending a remittance at once, while others don't cause you a second's thought. In short, through all business correspondence - indeed, through all business intercourse, and through all social inter course, too, whether by correspondence, advertising, sales manship, or casual conversation - the knack of expressing ideas or feeling in words is of first importance. What's the use of accommodating a man with a loan and then of making him feel you begrudged it? What's the use of exchanging goods for a dissatisfied customer if you make him feel grouchy towards you by doing it? What's the use of sending a prospect a description of your goods if you don't make the description mean something to him? There is none, you will say and you are right.
